I don't know what you do for a living but if "playing the game" means boot licking and ass kissing to get ahead you may want to start. If not then do your own thing and do way better than anyone else so they have no reason at all to interact with you. Literally go above and beyond to ensure as little contact as possible. Make it weird for them to approach you and not the other way.

True story. I was an ameture bodybuilder for 10 years and had a gf of 5 years (single mom yeah I know hard cringe) who cheated on me 6 months after I had a car accident, that wasn't my fault. I lost my gains, I was out of work, and depressed. Never once did she even remotely try to cheer me up or take care of me. Sad truth is we're in our own out here.
