I think the “k” in 5k was karat. So the center stone in the ring she GOT was 2.5k (karat) but she wanted a 5 karat stone. This is super confusingly written because OP is also talking k=thousand.

I think there are probably things that suck for each generation just in different ways. I’m a Gen-Xer, and it fucking blows. All these middle aged assholes whose wives got sick of their BS and who think they’re entitled to a 24-year-old VS model and are practically scandalized when an adult woman has the audacity to say she had a career and/or children to work around when scheduling dates.

I’m really getting to a point where it’s like: just...I mean I have a career and a great vibrator. Why would I want any part of this dating nightmare?

My ex reacted similarly when my kid started treatment for similar challenges. Like, oooh, I forgot you took two psych classes at a community college. You clearly know everything about mental health. He mansplained my kid’s mental health despite the, you know, actual doctor who is handling the treatment along with a therapist. Oh, and I’ve lived with the same things my whole life; it runs in my family. But sure. You think the kid only had one of the several challenges we are working on? I’ll just…

It’s incredible to me how he sees her as basically a used car: Looks good Seems to work Why hasn’t some guy claimed it...her? Maybe she didn’t WANT to date. Maybe she was focusing on school/work. Maybe she has personal reasons. It’s like they think it is a woman’s natural state to be in a relationship. If there are men who would want you, why would you be single? Ummmm....because I’m capable of independent thought?

I’m really enjoying leaving this d-bag on read after he quaran-touched-base today because he was, “thinking of” me. Sure. Like you were thinking of me when you cancelled our date and ghosted? Eff off.

Yes! But not until you are in love with them or reeeeally invested. They wait. They like all these things...or act like they do...and then once you’re super invested, they change. They stop trying. They show their true selves, and then they resent us for not also becoming lesser versions of ourselves.

THIS!!! Men love strong women because: -We don’t NEED you, so we’re not “needy.” -We know who we are, so we are confident. -We know our worth, so we are successful. Men can’t handle strong women long term because: -We don’t NEED you, so we’re not willing to put up with your BS. -We know who we are, so we are harder to neg and abuse. -We know our worth, so we are successful and expect you to have your act together too. Edit: typo

I said this (want vs need) many times to my (alcoholic, manipulative) ex. He always really loved this about me. Loved how strong and secure and successful I am. Loved that I am solid on my own. Respected that so much. But really, what I finally figured out was that he loved how people saw him when he was with a high quality, successful, powerful woman. He loved that he "got" a woman like me. He felt like I was a prize. And while that is good... the fact is that he didn't deserve this prize. And …

100% find a new therapist. This therapist is going through a personal journey, which is fine. However, it is not ok to project one’s own feelings into a patient/client. And it is absolutely acceptable for you to feel however you feel. I literally walked into a potential therapist’s office once, sat down with her and my (now-ex) husband, and after about five minutes, politely told the therapist that we needed to leave. We were seeking couples/sex therapy, and this woman’s office literally looked …

While I absolutely recognize and understand that A LOT of people — men and women — live paycheck to paycheck, I would absolutely argue that it is NOT true that, “most women” are unable to invest and have no discretionary income. I have been BROKE. Super totally BROKE. With kids. And an underpaying job. And a LVM ex who decided child support was optional. I absolutely hear what you’re saying and have lived it. And STILL, my advice is the same: you have to own your life, and that means your financ…

This is super interesting. I’ve had advisors tell me to focus more on retirement savings than paying off a house. If you have any insights into why/how you made that choice, I’m super interested in hearing more.

I’m sure this varies by local, so it’s definitely important to clarify costs on the front end before getting involved. In my experience, financial planners do a lot of up-front work at no cost because they want to manage your investments for you, and that’s where they make money in the long term. As for finding one, ASK. Specifically ask single women you respect who clearly have money. Ask successful women. These women are unlikely to be working with a man-splaining d-bag. They’re more likely wo…

YES!! Now tell ALL THE WOMEN YOU KNOW to do this!! So many women think of buying a house, starting an investment portfolio, or planning for retirement to be things you do when you’re married. NO WAY! Do it at 21. Do it at 25. Do it whenever you possibly can because it is YOUR LIFE.

Seriously, I cannot overstate this. I learned it the hard way. For instance, after my divorce, I had practically no retirement savings because I stayed home with the kids so we only invested in his account. I had no idea I could have just opened a Roth IRA with a financial planner. If you don’t know about investing: GO FIND A FINANCIAL PLANNER. You do NOT need to make tons of money to do this. You do not need to have, invest, or spend a lot of money to do this. Just go. Listen. Learn. And then b…

WTAF is this?! Now she has to look at this crap every time he takes his shirt off? If they go to a pool/beach, she has to be with him and have everyone know he’s a loser?! This is one of the stupidest, “This’ll fix things,” moves you can make. Right up there with, “Let’s have another kid. That’ll help.”

That was largely why I posted. My thought was, if I can go a few days without hearing from someone I’m newly dating, it seems like I’m just not that into him. I think, “pickme” behavior here would be texting him repeatedly or calling him when he hasn’t reached out, no? I’m still new here, so I’m certainly open to your feedback :)

It's almost like they're raping themselves. Please do not equate consensual sex, even bad-decision sex, to rape. Having experienced both, I can tell you 100% that there is no similarity, and implying otherwise is downplaying the impact rape has on a woman for life.

My LVM ex did this to me. He picked a nice restaurant for dinner and suggested we go. On the way, he told me I was paying for dinner because he had, “...like fifty bucks to my name,” and that he’d treat next time. He assumed I could afford this place, which, fucking of course I can. I’m a fucking successful adult. You should be, too. He assumed I’d be fine with this. He never asked.

Men: Test her so we know how many men she’s been with because sex leaves a deep, permanent imprint on a woman and women who sleep around are all sl@ts. Also men: Baby, it’s just sex. It’s not a big deal. It doesn’t have to mean anything. I mean, monogamy isn’t a natural state. Let’s just enjoy ourselves.

NEVER. SEND. NUDES. Think about your last three ex boyfriends. How would you feel about them having naked pics of you to jerk off to, blackmail you with, show others, or post to the Internet? Now remember that near every man you date will become an ex. NO NUDES. And if he pressures you for them, he is a LVM jerk.

OP, you said he’s not the man for you...but one flower delivery changed that? No disrespect to you. You do you. I simply want to point out that you were very clear in your post that he’s not the man for you, and I find it hard to believe that the ONLY reason you felt that way was because he had yet to make concrete plans for Valentine’s Day. Just a little, “Come back down to Earth,” nudge to remember that you are a strong woman. You can buy your own damn flowers. If he’s the right man, and you w…

I don’t think ALL men cheat. But I do think a LOT of men cheat. And sometimes that’s full-on cheating and sometimes it’s, “My wife doesn’t understaaaand me,” texts with old flames. In fairness, a lot of women cheat too. I know so many women who have cheated on their partners/spouses. It’s not something women talk about a lot, I think because we are way more harshly judged for it than men are, but it’s super common too. Regardless of gender: STOP FREAKING CHEATING ON PEOPLE!! Idk what is so hard …

First, I agree with the other ladies here that this is a LVM who does not respect you. Just on that alone, no, you’re not being dramatic. The point I want to make, however, is this: People often wait for a big catalyst. A major event. A huge conflict. And THEN they break up. Like ...oooohkay, I’m unhappy but I’ll just go along with this until BAM! He cheats or you have a huge blow out fight or something like that. But that is wholly unnecessary. You can calmly see that this man is not the person…

Get. Off. Tinder. It is LVM Central!! Match is better. Honestly, any app you have to pay to use meaningfully is better than Tinder because it weeds out losers who aren’t even willing to shell out $20 to maybe meet a nice person.

I agree. And it goes both ways. We ALL need to strive to be good people, be our best selves, be whole and complete. We need to do this for OURSELVES. The nice side benefit is that it makes us healthier partners, parents, colleagues, and friends too!

I read this story earlier today, and I found it heart breaking. This woman lived a lie. She lived with the ghost of this man’s past and blamed herself and prayed over him and spent FORTY YEARS trying to make their marriage work because that’s what she was taught. A wife stays. Supports. Suffers in silence. She took him back after his release, having fought for him and advocated for him. And her “rule” is that she basically gets to be equal partners now. That just...SUCKS. The only thing I think …

I agree. People are often uncomfortable with super personal questions right away, and asking what you do for a living is a safe, easy way to give a person something to talk about without having to get too private. I generally say what I do and talk about what I enjoy about my career without divulging where I work right off the bat. Then I ask them what they do and what they love about their work. It’s a good way to see how people approach their lives! Does he take pride in his work? Is he passio…

Update: We went and had a really nice time! We sat at this restaurant for about three hours just talking and enjoying one another. We were planning to go to this fun spot after dinner but I’ve had a headache for two days, and I told him I just really didn’t want to cancel on him but also didn’t feel up to the second thing. He was so sweet. He picked up the check, walked me to my car, asked to see me again, asked me to text when I got home safely, and waited for a clear sign I wanted a good night…

I am with you on this. I don’t make a habit of having long, detailed discussions about my previous partners, but also, I don’t hide it. If a partner asks how many people I’ve been with, I’ll give him a number, not a list with names and dates. It’s important to be honest. If he can’t handle it, that’s his problem and it says a lot about him. I want to tell all the LVM: If you want a partner who is sexually confident and knows what she’s doing, you can’t also have a virgin who lived in a cryostate…

This behavior just underscores how LVM project their own thoughts and actions onto women. That is, EVERYTHING they do is in service to their dicks. They want to get laid, and everything they do is in some way related to that goal. Therefore, they assume we operate the same way. Fake boobs? Must be trying to get a man! Makeup? Existing? Must be doing it so she can catch a man. Ummmm....no. No. We may want to get laid. And also we may just like being attractive and successful while ignoring your L…

Key differentiators: Women bosses: No benefit perceived by LVM. Women who are sex-positive or openly into kink: LVM presume they’re all DTF and not looking for a serious relationship, so they see this as a huge benefit to themselves. Basically, LVM want to “empower” women when it’s to their perceived benefit.

Idk about this one. Of course none of us know these two personally. But what I’ve read (which obviously needs to be taken with a grain of salt) is that he has been noticeably unhappy and easily aggravated in the last couple of years. He and his brother are barely speaking when they used to be so close. It is 100% admirable for a HVM to protect his wife and work with her to create a life they both want to live. In this situation, they blindsided his whole family, which was really disrespectful. T…
