Statistically speaking so are rapes by persons unknown to the victim, but it's something women worry about constantly, despite it being much more likely they'd be raped by someone they know. It's almost as if the constant media circus around these rare events completely skews our perceptions about their likelyhood.

Maybe you could look up how much it actually costs and then see how it's actually a trivial part of the UK budget and that there are far bigger, more expensive problems. As a British I'd guess it is likely because of a combination of her skin colour and accent. Women weren't overlooked in the slightest. Do you think a greek city state would have thrown away inventions that might help them outcompete each other or make life easier? Just because it's from a woman? Nope I just don't think they would have been working in that field. In the US a women couldn't apply for a patent until 1790.

I quoted an article, apologies for not spending the afternoon checking all of the sources. From what I have read there is much debate around the Franklin story, however it does seem that she had a massive amount of input into that photo being possible. It's also not unusual for scientists to have understudy's who do much of the physical work while being guided. A bit like how I do lots of work for my boss, but he's the one who drives the Ferrari home....

I'd dispute that Rosalind Franklin story was a falsehood. Somebody claimed it was her understudy who took the photo but if you go and read about her she contributed many of the techniques to allow the photo to be taken. If it comes down to an argument about who pressed the button then it lends weight to the argument that her contributions were overlooked.
