I recommend watching this video. The guy talks about how, when we converse with girls we're attracted to, we place filters on our speech. We try to come off as the person we think would be the most desirable as opposed to expressing who we actually are. The idea I'm trying to present is that the girls who you aren't attracted to get to know the real, relatively unfiltered you. Girls that you're trying to impress know a less authentic version of you. While there are tons of factors in building at…

First and foremost, you need to be living your own life. Try to make choices for your betterment, rather than for the sake of what girls might think. However, there's no reason that this should all together stop you from talking to and escalating with girls. I'd advise that you take a minute to think why it is that you don't want to talk with these girls. In my case, this hesitance usually is the result of rationalizations driven by my insecurities. I've found that you brain doesn't enjoy going …

It's not easy man, but you gotta understand, you have nothing to lose and plenty to gain when pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone.

I'm happy for you man, sounds like you did well. Don't get too attached though. Putting her on a pedestal will get you nowhere fast.

One's perception of a pedestal comes from a scarcity mindset. In this mindset, you think that girls you have a shot with a few and far between. Given this understanding, it's easy to put a particular girl up on a pedestal. The key to overcoming this is to have an abundance mindset. In my admittedly limited experience, achieving this mindset comes down to two things: Having faith in the FACT that there are countless girls out there for you. Putting yourself out there, pursuing your own interests,…

Exactly. A great way to avoid that investment is to get out of your head and live in the moment. Easier said than done, but it does come with time if you work on it.

It's definitely a good mentality to carry around with you. For me, it was my interest in Buddhist thought that made it stick. In that philosophy, it's taught that attachment is the source of suffering. A dependence on a specific outcome is most definitely an attachment to an outcome. When you create this attachment, you're connecting your very happiness to a single outcome. You're basically setting yourself up for disappointment. The key is to separate your emotions from the outcome. Sorry if I'…

This is a good point, working on your physique is a great way to build confidence. However, to get better at approach, you just have to approach. It's as much of a skill as anything else.

What are you texting them the next day? If these texts generally have a booty call tone, experiment with something more casual like a coffee/lunch invite and go from there.

Practice. Communication is just as much a skill as anything else. For me, sarcasm is usually at the base a particular tease. Practice using sarcasm whether you're talking to a girl you're interested in or even some friends. Maybe even watch some stand up of a comedian who performs that type of comedy.

It really is, I can relate. That's the whole purpose of outcome independence. Having a particular outcome as your focus produces nervousness because, in a sense, you're putting yourself on the spot. You're expecting yourself to achieve something that you don't even really have full control over. 9/10 times that's just gonna result in disappointment as you fail to reach that specific goal you have in your head. While still a work in progress, my personal remedy is to make my goal to have as much …

Dude, considering the "keep my number, and if you want to go again, give me a call" and the email from the morning after, it seems like she's giving you a wide open opportunity to take her out somewhere and see her again. Did you two discuss your interests/hobbies over the course of the night? If so, set something up casual that you think you'll both enjoy. And, of course, assume attraction. It's the best way to get out of your head and stop over analysing your actions.

Try not to hesitate when it comes to kino. The last thing you want to do is have an ongoing internal dialogue regarding when the exact perfect moment to put your arm around her is. Just start that shit from the get go. It'll get awkward if you spend the first 5-10 minutes of the movie without any kind of escalation. That's not to say that you need to start hooking up right away or anything, but that it's best if you let her know your intentions right from the get go rather than leave her questio…

I'm no expert myself, but that answer to these types of question always seems to be "assume attraction". That bit of advice is useful in overcoming the part of your brain that likes to over think things and perceive issues that don't actually exist outside of your mind.

Obviously. The cop's skills make him more valuable as a provider of security. What I'm arguing is that there is more to a person's value than the sum of their useful skills. The idea that the cop, as a person, is "worth more" than a homeless person or someone of a less in demand skill set doesn't sit right with me.

If nobody thinks you are valuable, then you're not valuable to them. That's what it means for value to be relative. I'm arguing that one can value their own self and skills regardless of whether or not society finds them useful. EDIT: Formatting

Was anyone else thrown off by statements like "...you are nothing more than the sum total of your useful skills." and "Your 'job' -- the useful thing you do for other people -- is all you are"? I sure as hell know that I'm not going to assign value to myself based on whether or not someone deems me to be 'useful'.
/r/seduction18/12/12 07:08 AM

Agreed. "...you are nothing more than the sum total of your useful skills." is a dangerous belief when it comes to assigning value to a human being.

Well, instead of parroting at all, one could just continue the conversation threading. For example, come with a slightly more complex response than simply repeating what the person just said: Person A: I just got back from a vacation. Person B (parroting): A vacation? Person B (threading): Cool, where to? Do you vacation often? Parroting might also lead to further detailed discussion of the vacation anyway, but threading allows you to be more engaging.

While still useful, this just seems like a watered down version of the idea of conversation threading.

I think the point of OP's post isn't to give up your hobbies, but recognize when said hobby is just an easier, less fulfilling means towards whatever satisfaction you truly crave. For example, rather than dwelling on satisfaction found in playing the Sims and making a kickass life for your virtual self, get out and do real kickass shit. It's not as easy, but it's often far more satisfying.

While I agree on the idea that people should at least be able to have some kind of conversation with people who they aren't attracted to, OP overcame a big step by getting over his AA as well as approaching without hesitation. For you, maybe that's not impressive, but for some, that's a fucking milestone.

Right, I agree completely. However, saying that nobody really cares is a strong generalization. Personally, if I'm trying to get to know someone, I'll be genuinely interested when they're talking about important aspects of their lives whether or not I'm familiar with the topic myself.

I recommend practicing meditation in your free time. I've only been doing it a couple times a week for about a month, but it teaches you how to be in the moment. By 'in the moment', I mean free from thoughts of the past as well as the future that lead to feelings of depression or anxiety respectively. So, using my (limited) experience with meditation, I just take 5-10 seconds to calm myself before approaching whatever it is that's creating anxiety. This has helped alleviate quite a bit of my AA.…

Why does that have to be a red flag? There's nothing wrong with going out to a bar with the sole intent of socializing.

Cookie cutter interview questions like "Where do you work?" or "What are you studying?" are, of course, small talk. Expanding/following up on these with questions like "Cool, have any interesting work stories?" or "Oh, you're studying to being a _______? Is that what you've always wanted to be?" go a bit beyond small talk. Basically, using conversation threading to make the conversation more personal.

I would suggest ending the conversation while it's still "hot" (e.g., while you're discussing something interesting/funny that she seems to be enjoying). This is preferable to letting the conversation get stale and then ending it after a bit of silence.

Basically this. Just get out and do something that puts you around other people. If you don't have a passion for something at the moment, get out there and find one by experiencing as much different shit as possible. It's also important to have the mentality that you're doing this for self-fulfillment. The fact that it'll put you in a great place socially is just gravy.
