What really astounds me is seeing blatant feminist logic here so commonly. Get your head out of your arse, my entire point is that both genders can suffer because rape is a terribly traumatizing thing, and it's not fair for ANYONE to have to deal with the consequences of something they did not deserve

Well, for the first thing, the same applies to male victims. The point was that both genders usually have to take care of the baby they share with their rapist. The difference is that childbirth takes an extreme toll on the body and (especially in younger victims) can lead to complications during birth. I also think that while infanticide is terrible and often happens senselessly, which should be punished, which sadly isn't always the case, it would honestly be worse if the baby grew up being ab…

This isn't specific to the article at all, but do you ever consider that women can be rapists too? Wouldn't it be more ideal to find ways to prevent all rape, especially considering that (young) victims of rape and molestation often go on to become rapists themselves, and usually even target the group they were victimized by.
/r/MensRights17/12/18 11:18 PM

I'm glad you're also giving the perspective that women have to take care of their rapist's babies too. It sucks both for male and female victims of rape but it's easy to get caught up in just one side, when definitely both issues have to be fixed :)

I didn't watch the whole thing because I can't focus, but I can see why American therapists may have this experience. Honestly? In America I wouldn't even trust the doctors and psychologists. But America is a small part of the world and it's ignorant to assume that everywhere else is the same. In Europe you will see whole other attitudes, and in my personal experience it was difficult to get medications prescribed until half a year into therapy my therapist and I decided it could be useful tryin…

It's true that some mental illness like bipolar disorder are technically physical issues, but since it's based in the brain and consistently affects and can alter one's state of mind, it is still considered a mental illness. It also doesn't usually affect the rest of your body (although there definitely can be somatic symptoms in many mental disorders) in the way that say, bronchitis does. I guess you could consider it just 'health care', since mental health is a subset of general health, but is…

I'm not upset at all, just really baffled. I know that mental illness is a complicated issue and it can take a long time to understand this, but I really do encourage you to look some basic things up if you're really invested in this topic. I used to not even know that there are different types of bipolar disorder (and admittedly, this illness is particularly hard to understand and it's up there with schizoid PD), psychology / psychiatry are incredibly interesting fields though, which is also wh…

So you're saying that giving alcohol and super addictive drugs that have extremely adverse effects on the individual taking them to children is better than using medicine which is specifically developed for a particular illness? Like apart from the fact that pretty much everyone knows that being an alcoholic and drug addict will negatively impact ones life, sometimes to the point of death, substance abuse is even often a symptom of mental illness and will exacerbate this too. And no, you clearly…

Not all mental illness is created by social trauma. Some of it is genetically inherited, some people have a genetic predisposition, and of course nurture as well as social experiences and traumatizing events can cause it. But these sort of things aren't just things that affect boys. Any person of any race or gender can be a victim of abuse, and just like how girls should have access to therapy and - if needed - medication, boys should too. Also, while therapy could be considered an industry, the…

Wow. I mean no disrespect, but this is the exact same thing a friend told me right before trying to sell me something that allegedly cures cancer (a supplement, nothing more, which definitely does not cure cancer). You need to inform yourself about psychoactive medication because the way you frame it only makes you sound like a conspiracy theorist. Medications have been shown and proven through various clinical studies to help with mental health problems (not all, for example personality disorde…

Isn't the alcoholism thing also related to alcohol being really cheap in Mongolia? My friend lived there for like half a year for a placement and figured that was the reason so many people are hospitalized with Korsakoff

Are you serious? Mental health care isn't all about drugging people, a huge part of it is acknowledging mental health issues and providing support in the form of therapy. I realize a lot of America is morally corrupt when it comes to prescribing medications that aren't needed, but again, mental health is a lot more than just a couple of different pills, and just because America sucks in that regard, doesn't mean everywhere else does too.

Men being the majority of perpetuators doesn't mean that male victims are any safer than women. It doesn't matter who you get killed by, it's just that as a man you're more likely to be killed, if that makes sense?

I'm glad the judge wasn't lenient there. Not having the support of your parents is a weak excuse. My parents were also never supportive, and abusive in fact. That doesn't mean it's okay for me to go and slaughter them like this maniac did

Transgenderism is a disorder but not a mental illness. Gender dysphoria is a mental illness that stems from a stark gender incongruence, which (to make it short) exists because the brain structure resembles that of a male brain while the body is that of a female and vice versa. I can link you to the research if you want, but if you don't want to read that much you can just look it up on wikipedia :)

Hi! I appreciate your opinion. I feel the same way about people who claim to be genderfluid or nonbinary (the latter imo is, ironically enough, a transitional phase). I don't mean to change your views, but there's an great article which references some studies and research that shows the biological basis of transgenderism, which might help you understand a little better how and why this happens. If you want, I can send it your way! It makes for a interesting read :)

Hi! Jesus, I didn't know this guy was so well knows for his bs, although his username really stuck with me because of his whole (mis)use of the term "myth" as well as having seen him comment on several threads. I'm glad to hear though that he seems to be the kind of person that you'd ignore like a weird strange guy on the street, mumbling something about armageddon. Thank you so much for your comment! It means a whole lot to hear another person's perspective on this :)

Thank you for your input! I do think that trans men can contribute a lot to this community, especially the ones who have transitioned I, because they've lived "both ways". I personally haven't transitioned yet, and basically live as a woman. That means I can only read about the issues men face, but haven't experienced them firsthand, whereas people who pass as male do experience those things. This also works the other way around with trans women :)

I think it's possible that the facts lie somewhere between both our perceptions. I think I'm far more sensitive to comments like these because they affect me personally, but I also think that those comments don't really surface until there's a post that's about transgender people too (for example the ones about the bathroom issue or about trans people on sports teams separated by gender, that's where I see this most). Not at all. Special treatment is not and was never my goal, not here nor in my personal life. Here's the kind of treatment I mean. I don't know how to link a full comment thread, but I think it should work just fine clicking the little "show parent comments" button. I hope this helps you understand why it is hard to feel at ease, when there are people here claiming that trans people are dangerous mentally ill people who need to be kept away.

Hi! I don't mind how they come across, I realize that how I feel about what's being said is something I have to deal with on my own, and I don't feel negatively about them at all because of this. I believe in biology and science as well, I think you might enjoy this read! It shows that being trans is not just "a feeling". Basically, it shows that transgenderism most likely stems from the brain developing at a different stage than the rest of the body, which can then result in the brain ending up closely resembling x gender whereas the body ends up as y. If it wasn't for the studies and research proving a neurobiological aspect to transgenderism, I probably would be doubting my own sanity…

I'm not leaving the men's rights movement, as I've stated in my original post, because I still believe that those are issues than need to be tackled. I think you misread my "not feeling wanted" as "wanting to leave", that's not the case, though.

Hi! I completely understand your concerns, and I agree that this sub's focal point should remain men's rights and tackling the discrimination and double standards men face. Now that you point it out, I realize that my post calls more attention to it than I intended, and I apologize for that. It's not that I can't deal with trans issues not being a part of this sub, I don't think they're crucial to men's rights, really. But I think that just like how men may feel left behind in certain areas (just think of that bake sale that charges men more than women), it can feel pretty alienating when many people here are very vocal about their disdain for transgender people. My gender has never been an issue for anyone but myself and my therapist, and sometimes other trans people when I needed …

Uh. Well, no, it is actually the "regressive left" that I've read about. Not that I agree with the term because I don't think that the entire left is bad. It's just the extremes (on both sides) that I fail to understand. I'm not sure if the men's rights movement can be considered either side because I think that depending on who you ask and where you look, you will get different interpretations and results. Those are also influenced by people who are part of the movement. But many right wing peo…

To be honest, since I learned english mostly through context I don't fully understand what regressive is supposed to mean in this context. I often see things about "the regressive left" (I take this to be about SJWs who are tearing each other apart in the pursuit of being the most oppressed). In this context I don't really understand it though. Traditional doesn't sound like... bad to me. I have different values but different strokes for different folks! We do, but are you willing to risk this child being forced to undergo some treatment on the off-chance the mom isn't just forcing her own view of things on the kid? I would be just as concerned about the kid's well being if it was the dad who was doing this to the child, because children are easy to influence and frequently cave to the pressure of their parents, I know this from personal experience too. And especially in this day and age where being trans is treated as some sort of accessory (fr…

I'm gonna try to keep this short because I am very, very sleepy.. but even being transgender myself, I completely and utterly disagree with medical interference at this age. It could do endless damage and it does look a lot like it's a big ol' case of "I wish I had a daughter" syndrome where the mother is forcing her son to "become" a girl. Even on the off chance that the diagnosis is right (which it doesn't seem to be considering that a psych evaluation has shown the kid does not experience gen…

This is a genuine question, but do you consider feminism a leftist thing and men's right a right(ist?) thing? Personally I'm somewhere in the middle, and would consider the men's rights movement to be in the middle too because of it's push for real equality. So I'm really (like genuinely, not baity) curious about your opinion! I'm looking forward to hearing from you :-)

How can the doctors and therapists treating the child allow this when there is proof this child is being forced to live as a girl rather than wanting to? This is absolutely sickening, this little boy's life will be ruined forever

I don't understand why you're being downvoted. I mean, we thankfully also have websites and articles about issues men face. I would hate if someone was making a fuss about how, say, the statistic that shows 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused by a certain age is ignoring the girls that are victims of CSA. So I don't think it's appropriate to talk about an article that's specifically about female victims of domestic violence is ignoring men's issues, when I doubt anyone here would like if an article …

Not to rain on your parade but I believe that most people who butcher their ex for dumping them will be evaluated for mental illness. No mentally sound person has this sort of reaction. It sounds like you're projecting. You want the outcome to be that it was another false rape claim. I couldn't care less about the outcome. I just want it to be investigated properly, because in every single trial both the accuser and the accused should be given equal rights, regardless of either one's gender. It wasn't said what the recording contains or whether it was investigated at all, so I will refrain from making assumptions about what that video contains, especially since they were both c…

Given the amount of suffering that poor child went to (and clearly still is, 7 years later), this sentence should've been at LEAST 5 years. It may have been a single child that this monster victimized, but repeatedly. The judge must not really understand how scary it is to be driven to some place only to be fondled and sexually abused. Sickening
/r/MensRights17/11/18 11:24 AM

The one where it was concluded she must've fabricated the story sounds.. well, I'm not 100% sure, but false accusations should result in punishment like this. The second, "Mary Roe" however just? If there is video/audio evidence that this guy recorded her against her will and she had bruises on herself, I'm not sure if it's adequate to claim she was being the malicious one. It was an unfair trial and definitely biased. People deserve a fair trial, no matter if it's a man or woman.

I'm not from the US so I don't know if I could call myself a supporter or an opponent, but I don't agree with a lot of his philosophies. The most obvious one's his racist views. Then again, this "wall" that everyone has come to fear turned out to be just a more effective fence replacing the old, less effective one. I can't say that I'm against that. No I'm not, and the fact that this matters to you says a lot. To me it honestly sounds like you're using this movement to hate on women or get some sort of self esteem boost out of a few people agreeing with you. But to get to the argument at hand: You can't say that when it's more men getting in than women it's fair and when it's the other way around it's unfair. That means, the 11% of 100% male applicants that were accepted could be a larger number than the 17% of girls that were accepted. Not sure what the petition itself says as I can't read the language, but according to OP it is NOT about men getting to decide whether or not the child will be aborted. It is saying that if the father doesn't want the child and the mother wants to keep it anyway, he is not forced to pay the mother support. Imo, this could lead either to the woman deciding to abort anyway (especially if she can't raise the baby on her own) or taking responsibility for her choice to keep the baby, instead of forci…

This is an incredibly important thing to make up. We can't criticize feminists for pulling bullshit statistics out of their asses if we do the same. We need to take a closer look at things and not grow complacent, it's easy to just believe what you see, and easier to believe something when it aligns with personal views or bias. It sucks that this is a big issue because feminists will use those times Men's Rights groups mess up to discredit the movement entirely

You have to do a whole lot of reaching to get to that conclusion from what I said. Not only don't I think that women have it worse (in some areas yes, but men have it worse in a lot of places as well, which is why I'm part of this sub in the first place), but my feelings on the topic of rape don't change the facts, no matter which way. If you want to continue acting like some sort of petty child and twist people's words then do it on your tumblr instead of here. I objectively know that you'd fee…

Thank you, I don't hold it against you, I didn't make clear enough where I was coming from. But I agree with you that life is more important than a victim status. Personally I just find it really hard to live with, I'm still in the process of learning to accept what happened and that it's not my fault. If something like that happened to me again though... I can't imagine how far that would set me back. Thanks again, and I am currently getting treatment, so I'll be okay :)

I'm not pushing my own narrative or anything though? I was only stating my subjective opinion, yes, I would rather die than be raped, because I have been as a child and I still live with the trauma today. I don't want to imagine my life if this happened to me now again, is my point. I am also not saying that rape is the worst crime ever. Again, this is a subjective opinion, and it doesn't influence my opinion whatsoever. The fact that you go out of your way to insult me as a person because of a …

To be fair, if I had the choice between being killed / shot and being raped, I would choose the former. Then again.. being brutally beaten up to me personally would be the last thing I would choose, but that's all subjective, and unfortunately when it comes to children both genders are as likely to be victims of sexual abuse...

This is true, I like that this doesn't just go ignored. However when speaking of sexual assault, women who go out at night are more likely to be the victims, because they're easy targets.

It's so upsetting to hear that the kids had to endure this trauma.. but it's also such a huge relief that the court finally gives a female predator the sentence she deserves and even emphasizes that they will protect boys and girls equally.

Feminists can understand that when a vagina becomes wet during rape it's not because they enjoyed it. But they can't understand that when a penis becomes erect due to stimulation doesn't mean they enjoyed it

She deserved the sentence. I agree it's not fair that female victims are being put on the back burner, especially since such a large percentage of the victims is female, but that doesn't mean that the woman who posted this man's picture shouldn't be punished. Only that the ones who do the same to other people, regardless of the perp's or victim's gender, should be punished the same. And that's what equality is, not the good ol' giving the women a pussy pass

My mum never talked about anything else but how unfair it is at work and how exhausting and everyone is a bitch and an asshole and blah blah blah, but my dad only complained maybe twice a month... Sorry, this took me a while to respond to because I wasn't on my laptop and wanted to link sources to back up the statements I'm going to make. I also don't doubt that you don't experience any of the negative consequences, but there have been made direct links between childhood sexual abuse and the following... The most common effect associated with CSA is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This can include reenactment of the traumatic event, withdrawn behavior, flashbacks to the event (personally …

I'm happy you're doing well! But it's important to acknowledge that many people aren't as fortunate. It's rather rare that CSA victims don't experience any negative consequences from their abuse. A lot of people end up engaging in dangerous promiscuous behavior, and have trouble setting boundaries as result of what was done to them.

Scientific studies are based on facts and I firmly believe that doctors and scientists are not up in some big conspiracy to push transgenderism on people. In fact, most doctors will approach this issue very reluctantly. If you choose not to trust in scientific discoveries, then that's your thing. As for the "solution" to this, I don't disagree. Personally, I would love if there was some sort of drug or procedure to rid a patient of gender dysphoria, it would certainly be a lot easier and less st…

That's an interesting point! It could very well be, he was from Lebanon (I think that's what it's called in english, at least!) and it's pretty common here in Germany, and probably in other countries too, for guys from the east to feel like they need to be able to treat their girls to expensive restaurants and give them overpriced gifts.. That would be an interesting issue to tackle on this sub as well. I've always wondered if it started out with men insisting or women demanding.
/r/MensRights11/08/18 01:10 AM

And where are you getting that idea, when there have been several scientific studies proving the neurobiological components of transgenderism? As well as the ones suggesting that brain development occurring at a different stage in the womb than the rest of the body could be the reason transgender people exist at all. Even without those studies, do you really think people want to feel horrible about their physical sex? Gender dysphoria is a real mental illness caused by this incongruence between …

Exactly. I've actually dated a guy who has spent thousands of euros on a previous girlfriend (who ended up cheating on him as well). She wanted designer bags, clothes, "pocket money", got him to drive her to school, let him pay for meals and drinks, etc etc.. I felt so bad for him, I wanted to straight up refuse to let him pay anything for me. Then again, this dude might be a terrible example.. he insisted on paying for my driver's license and wanted to buy me a brand new car (though he's not ex…

I agree with this for the most part. I've personally caught myself hoping my date would insist on paying (which so far has always happened unless I REALLY insisted on paying). In general I don't think it's meant to be a trap though. Mostly it's just being broke or greedy and worrying about spending too much money you don't have. The best way to resolve this (and to save yourself the type of woman that only dates for the sake of getting her meals paid for) is to make the first few dates inexpensi…

Online feminists exist outside of the internet too, and they're definitely not always reasonable. I think it's important to remember that a good portion of them probably are, but then there are also a lot of feminists who pride themselves on hating men, and they're the driving force in modern feminism and play a part in the inequalities that men face. If you know reasonable feminists, then you're really lucky. I just hope they stay reasonable... (That's not to say that MRAs can't be unreasonable…

This is getting ridiculous.. people don't "choose" to become transgender. They are transgender, neurobiologically. Besides, how do you explain trans men? You wouldn't say that they're just "women brainwashed by the patriarchy to want to be like men", would you?

Another commenter already said this, but I really like their point. I've never been particularly biased when it comes to tampons and pads but the reality is that inmates trying to get through that time of the month with too few tampons to realistically be enough for a woman with an average or heavier period can pose a risk to their and other people's health. Toxic shock syndrome is a very real concern, and inmates bleeding through is just a health hazard and even as prisoners they deserve better…

Rape victims always suffer in the long term when they're sexually assaulted, especially when they're still children. It's a huge emotional trauma and is also associated with the development of personality disorders, as well as drug addiction, self harm, depression, etc. I was a victim of childhood sexual abuse and even today it affects my life tremendously

12 years is not nearly enough when considering the amount of suffering an innocent child was put through. This is regardless of gender of the perpetuators and the victim, it's sick, and 12 years would only be enough if the other inmates "take care of" that piece of shit

My point was that there's no need to be so degrading, which you seem to be pretty good at considering your inclination to assume that you /must/ know more than I do. You already said you're not expert and yet you know more than "someone like me", so I doubt that anything will be able to change your mind or at least open it up to new possibilities. "Mentally ill men" you do realize that the mental illness is gender dysphoria, which causes the individual who suffers it a great deal of distress, right? Transgenderism itself is caused by neurobiological aspects and the currently only way to treat this successfully is to just let a trans person live their life as the gender they feel they are. Besides, a lot of mentally ill people spend their time around children or even have them. A minority of those people is set out to harm those kids. It u…

My hands were typing faster than my brain was thinking, sorry! But yes I know, I've experienced it firsthand. Though I believe there's already laws against adults approaching young children in a sexual manner (though it obviously can't get reinforced very well, and these cases would always be on a he-said-she-said basis which is.. difficult). Criminalizing it won't stop it from happening though, so I believe it's more important to teach the right behaviors. Socially showing that this behavior is…

I've been whistled and honked at since I was 11, and it's extremely uncomfortable and gives one the feeling of not being safe. Is it wrong? Absolutely. But I don't think it should be considered a hate crime. If we make laws about everything uncomfortable instead of just teaching people the empathy needed to stop this frightening behavior, then we will soon have a world where everything is illegal.

So basically if a few people sort of acknowledge that men can be victims of DV, then that's enough. But we also need entire movements based around the violence women experience, and the unbearable kicking and screaming when someone doesn't show the same enthusiasm as, say, a feminist, then that's because of patriarchy and misogyny and, of course, we need to ramp up the exposure there... sounds fair /s

These are the traits every single one of my friends' girlfriends have. I've been in abusive relationships with men (domestic violence, emotional abuse) and glaring and such things are literally.. not abuse... like in any shape or form, unless it's meant to make you feel bad and devalued (again, something my friends' girlfriends do, and a former friend of mine did to me constantly when she didn't get what she wants)
