I'm surprised how many people here toe the popular party line. SSRIs are EXTREMELY over prescribed and have very bad and hazardous side effects. There is certainly real cases of mental illness - and in those cases medication is of course necessary, but that's maybe 10% of prescriptions. 90% of the time depression is caused by the situation and surroundings that you're in.
