Dressing up is different from brushing your hair and putting on clothes that match.

They’re different sports with different career trajectories. Almost all gymnasts retire in their early-mid 20s because of the nature of the sport, while swimmers may not even be at their peak at that age. Saying that Simone Biles is to gymnastics what Michael Phelps is to swimming just means that they were both the indisputable GOAT in their sport, not that their careers are literally identical.

And what evidence do you have for this?
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/24 05:15 PM

Different sports have different competition structures. Gymnastics has much fewer categories to compete in, and therefore earn medals in. Also, women’s gymnastics is one of the few sports that’s more popular than men’s gymnastics, and they’re totally different sports not just easier and harder versions of each other. Male gymnastics couldn’t do half the stuff women do and vice versa.

She’s built like any other high level gymnast.

Because she’s arguably the greatest gymnast of all time, and definitely the most decorated one. She’s to gymnastics what Michael Phelps is to swimming or Usain Bolt is to sprinting.

Simone isn’t just a professional gymnast. She’s the most decorated of all time and has multiple moves named after her.

Simone is absolutely on the same level as Michael Phelps. Both are the most decorated athletes in their sport.

No, I’m saying that you’re likely to see more couples with a heavier woman/thin man for those reasons. Most of those couples were probably similar BMIs when they got together.

Many women gain significant weight in pregnancy and then struggle to lose it while their male partner never experiences anything that makes them put on significant weight. More men than women also work physically demanding jobs like construction.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/01/24 07:12 PM

Maybe because of the expectation that they’ll want to start a family and take maternity leave soon?
/r/PurplePillDebate22/11/23 01:55 PM

I think this has something to do with many women gaining a ton of weight in pregnancy and struggling to lose it. The men never experience something that makes them put on weight so they stay skinny.

A 5’4 woman is more likely to carry weight in desirable areas. A man with a BMI of 30 will almost certainly carry most of it in his gut. A woman with a BMI of 30 might carry most of the weight in her boobs and butt and just come off as a little chubby and “thicc”.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/10/23 03:40 PM

And the average American man is 5’9/200 lbs. Same exact borderline obese BMI of 29. What’s your point?
/r/PurplePillDebate14/07/23 11:53 AM

Many women prefer to work out in group fitness classes rather than by themselves on the machines/free weights. Go to any pilates, cycling, yoga, or HIIT class (like OrangeTheory or F45) and your gender ratio will be flipped. There are also designated women’s areas in the majority of gyms.

A 5'4 man is 5 inches shorter than average (5'9). A 5'2 woman is 2 inches shorter than average. He's the equivalent of a 4'11 woman in terms of relative height and how common they are.

Obviously college aged women will be thinner on average than a sample size that includes women of all ages. Most people gain weight as they get older, especially women after childbirth and menopause.

It depends on the type of cheater: Serial cheaters who cheat in every relationship they have and seem to not be cut out for monogamy? They'll always have a wandering eye and feel stifled when expected to be faithful to one person; some may not act on it, but those with poor impulse control or a lack of respect for their partner will. People who've cheated in one relationship and never again. These are the people who are tempted to cheat because of issues in their particular relationship, or thos…

Because you enjoy their company? As a bisexual woman this mindset has always been very weird to me because I would say I’m physically attracted to the majority of my friends, male or female.

She may not be your type but you can’t tell me that Kim K isn’t objectively above average looking for a woman her age (not just compared to other celebrities).

Yeah I knew truerateme was BS when I posted there out of curiosity and was told I had to be below average looking because I have a bigger nose and forehead and wide set eyes. Not to sound super conceited but I get complimented on my looks regularly and have been asked to model multiple times (I’m too short and don’t have the right body type to do it professionally). I’ve also been hired for jobs that are known to only hire attractive girls. I KNOW there’s no way those things can be true if I’m a…

Few people are naturally very good looking, that’s pretty much the point of this post. Most people are pretty average and unremarkable looking with some visible flaws but it’s easier for women to mask this than men with the right makeup, hairstyle, skincare, etc. (the later are just as applicable to men but are much more commonly practiced by women). This makes the average woman who takes care of herself better looking than the average man.

Oh agreed! I mentioned at the beginning of my post that most heterosexual couples I know are either fairly evenly matched or the girl is more attractive. The point of this post was to try to explain how that’s the case when women seem to find the majority of men unattractive.
/r/PurplePillDebate04/04/21 07:17 PM
1

Men may face more rigid standards for their appearance but in my experience, women don’t tend to value physical attractiveness in their partners to the same extent as men do. Women may think that the average guy isn’t physically attractive (upon first glance) but it doesn’t mean that they won’t be attracted to him for a number of other reasons - confidence, sense of humour, style/aesthetic, intelligence, charisma, talent, what have you. See: how many women openly list average looking/unconventio…

Ok my statement was hyperbolic, of course I know that not every STEM major is inept in other ways and grad schools make an effort to look for well-rounded students rather than those who are only strong in math and science (hence the GRE scores). My point was that being a STEM major or having the strengths to succeed in STEM (aka being good at math and science) doesn’t make one more intelligent by default than students who go into humanities. Being good at math/science is just one of the many thi…

I honestly think the entire concept of intelligence is flawed because it’s really just a broad term used for someone having an aptitude for certain specific skillsets. Like, is intelligence a matter of how well someone learns and retains information? Their logic and reasoning? Their critical thinking skills? How well they communicate and express their ideas? Natural curiosity? How creative they are? Problem solving ability? I could go on. I think being good at math and becoming a good writer com…

Depends where. Here in Canada we still have schools with overall better reputations than others or that are more internationally renowned but some of our best and most competitive programs are at schools that are otherwise considered anywhere from ‘good but not the best’ to ‘will accept anyone’. Schulich, the business school at York University, is ranked higher and is harder to get into than Rotman, the business school at U of T, but aside from this program and a few others York is generally peo…

I’m guessing this is because many people in high-paying fields grew up relatively wealthy and with parents who pushed them to be overachievers. These parents tend to enroll their kids in a variety of extracurricular activities, many of which are somewhat artistic - dance, art classes, instrument or singing lessons, acting classes, what have you. It makes sense that in a lot of these kids at least one of these interests sticks and they get pretty good at it.

Can we stop with the STEM circlejerk? Not everyone is naturally good at math or science and that doesn’t make them any less intelligent or hard-working. They just have different strengths; look at all the STEM kids who struggle to write a basic essay or lack social/emotional intelligence. Or maybe some people really just want to be teachers. Not everyone aspires to be as rich as possible; for many, stable employment with a comfortable salary, summers off and great benefits, plus the opportunity …

Lmao what? Middle class starts at 100k? Since when? I could definitely agree that it should be in high COL areas and some reports put up numbers in that range for where I live (Toronto) but that figure is a) in Canadian dollars, 123k USD is about 96k CAD b) much higher than the Canadian or American average. Middle class income is lower almost anywhere that isn’t also a big city on the coast with a lot of jobs and an overpriced housing market. The middle-class income for Dallas, for example, is 6…

/r/PurplePillDebate23/09/20 01:04 AM

Criminality is heavily correlated with socioeconomic status. Any family living off a single income is more likely to be poor and already poor women are more likely to become single mothers. There’s also the issue of those with a single parent being less supervised as kids/teens because the only available parent’s time is stretched thinner. Has nothing to do with being raised by a woman specifically.

Yeah I’ve always wondered how true the whole “guys are only attracted to women under 25/30 thing” was. I’m a girl in my early 20s and almost every single one of my guy friends and exes have told me that they love older women and have milf fantasies.

Being more sexually attracted to a certain race and being more likely to date people of that race as a result is different from flat out saying that you wouldn’t date someone of a certain race. That’s when it goes from being a harmless preference to prejudice imo. Think of it this way. I tend to be most attracted to men with dark hair and most of my exes have had dark hair as a result. Does that mean I would flat out refuse to date a blonde? No.

21 year old white girl here, grew up in one of the most diverse cities in the world so my views are probably a little swayed by my upbringing. I really don’t think I have a racial preference at all. The guy I’m currently dating is white (Eastern European background), the one before him was black, the one before that was hispanic. I’ve found men of probably every race attractive and race really doesn’t factor into it at all.

Why is everyone so surprised by this? Being tall is an attractive trait in men and, all other things being equal, the taller twin will be considered the better looking one. If the average man met twin sisters with equally attractive faces but one was flat chested and the other had amazing tits, or one was a little chubby and the other was in perfect shape, tell me most wouldn’t flock to the slightly hotter one. Same exact case as this and that’s not even taking into the account the novelty facto…

21 year old girl here. Serious question: have you never gradually developed feelings for someone? Maybe men and women are different but there have been plenty of guys who I initially wasn’t interested in romantically who slowly became SUPER attractive to me as we grew closer, discovered more in common, and as I learned more about them. There are plenty of reasons to reject someone initially and later develop feelings for them other than ‘you weren’t good enough then but now my standards are lower/I’m more desperate’. …

Religion is one thing, but someone who simply values marriage, monogamy and a traditional life more than the average person in 2019 is more likely to settle down in a relationship that may not be working and avoid leaving if there are problems. I think that’s honestly it. I’ve literally thought to myself that I “don’t know how to girl” before and I’m aware that I can close myself off and have a resting bitch face. I was bullied pretty badly as a kid and had severe acne all throughout my teens which was just a one two punch on the ole self esteem and I think, while I’m pretty confident in my appearance now, the self esteem issues still manifest in the way I interact with people and go about my day. Any advice beyond smiling?

Ok by naturally skinny I didn’t mean “can literally eat 5000 calories a day while sitting on their ass and not gain weight”, I meant “has a lifestyle or appetite that allows them to eat the right amount to maintain their low weight without being conscious about it.”
/r/PurplePillDebate11/12/19 10:30 PM

I think the stat probably has to do with a) more men than women being naturally skinny because of all the tall lanky guys with mega metabolisms and active jobs, b) more women than men being in the slightly overweight range because of all the women who gain weight with pregnancy, plus most women have lower daily calorie expenditures than men which makes it easier to overeat. I feel like once you get into the obese range the rates even out.

She still wouldn’t be fat or seriously chubby as long as she wasn’t super short. If she’s 5’4ish, 140 is the upper end of the healthy weight range. That’s pretty much the exact point where most people look average/like they could lose 10-15lbs but aren’t fat.

You’re acting like 170cm is unbelievably tall for a woman, it’s 5’7. Well within the range of ‘normal’ height. I’m a little shorter than that and around 135 lbs and I don’t think I would qualify anywhere close to chubby. I wear a size 4 and have a flat stomach with visible definition. TIL: I just don’t find Anna Kendrick as attractive as everyone else seems to.

Admittedly Zendaya might be a bit of a stretch, how about Naomi Campbell in her prime instead? I think the distinction is that Anna Kendrick posting on Instagram as a regular girl wouldn’t get any sort of benefit from her looks alone, while a ‘mega hottie’ would be rolling in brand sponsorships and getting flown out by celebrities and professional athletes.

I would consider someone like Megan Fox in her prime to be a mega hottie, but since I know I’ll get 10 replies saying that she’s not even that hot I just want to emphasis that type plays a HUGE role in bringing someone up to this level for an individual. Really into tall blondes? Blake Lively. Really into petite brunettes? Ariana Grande. Really into black girls? Zendaya. Really into the porn star look? Kate Upton. All of these women would fit into my mega hottie classification because they stand…

The kind of woman that stands out for her looks and is way better looking than the girls you see out and about on a regular basis. Who that is is obviously very dependent on type, which is why I hesitate to name any specific celebrities as examples, but these girls are the type that could make money off their looks alone.

I’m wondering if it’s because they genuinely find the ‘cute but nothing special’ girls more attractive than the really hot girls or if they’re subconsciously affected by their own insecurities and beliefs about what kind of girls they can get. I know this is a anecdotal but I know a girl who’s REALLY hot - like, bottle girl at a top club in a big city and regularly getting hit on by celebrities and professional athletes hot - yet both her and her friends say that she almost never gets hit on by …

I’m a 21 year old decently attractive girl and I’m definitely much more of a sucker for personality, although the big caveat is that I can’t find them ugly. There have been completely average looking guys that I’ve found myself super attracted to because they were funny, charismatic and we had good chemistry. Meanwhile, a guy can be 6’2 with an 8 pack and model face but I’d get turned off if he was an idiot, couldn’t make conversation or was openly rude. The guy I was most attracted to in my lif…

I don’t care that much about earnings but if we’re talking about the average looking guy having a better personality overall (funnier, more intelligent, more confident, treats me better etc.) then I’d pick the average looking guy every time. The only time I would go out of my way to go for the most attractive guy possible is if all I want is sex.

Hi, I’m a 21 year old above average looking girl who’s only had sex three times because those were the only times I wasn’t too shy/awkward to take advantage of opportunities to hook up. When I was younger and 20lbs heavier with bad acne and terrible makeup/hair skills I never had the opportunity to hook up at all.

Nothing wrong with video games but if a guy is playing them in excess to the detriment of his health and relationship with his wife then it’s a problem. A couple playing video games together because it’s a shared interest is different from a guy locking himself in his room all night to play video games alone while not paying attention to his wife.

I’m a 21 year old woman so no I haven’t, but even I can tell you that you’re pretty naive if you think it’s only women that change after getting married. Maybe women wouldn’t be tempted to cheat either if their partners didn’t gain a ton of weight and spend all night drinking beer, playing video games and watching porn while ignoring them? My point is, people in general are driven to cheat when they’re not happy in their relationships. Some people are just assholes who shouldn’t be in monogamous…

The problem with these studies is that they don’t take into account anything besides partner count itself, which really doesn’t say much about someone’s actual habits or attitude towards relationships. Did they have the sex in committed relationships or during night stands? Is their partner count higher because they cheated? Did they go through a slutty phase years ago that they’ve moved past completely? Did they have one or two partners per year consistently over the last 20 years or 20 partner…

How do you explain the huge number of men that cheat then?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/11/19 04:10 PM
You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
