A very similar thing happened to me at Yankee stadium. They wanted to search my backpack, but they weren't searching any purses. Some of the purses were bigger than my backpack also.

I think we agree on some points but not on others. I think women in profesional sports should be paid as the market dictates, not in relation to what men make. I also think that the market should decide how many slots are available for each gender. As far as the olympics goes, I think that since it is state sponsored women should have the same opportunity to compete against their peers that men do. We could make two or three or eleven tiers and separate by ability. They do it for boxing and wrestling and mixed martial arts. Same number of total spots, shared competition for those spots. Woman's boxing exists alongside these men's, Like I said, if there is a market, the sport will expand without eliminating women's sports. If you eliminate women's sport, that won't make men's sports twice as large. If there were a market for larger men's teams it would be filled. Just like you pointed out with the CFL and minor league teams, they exist even though there are active women's sports. If you eliminate women's sports, that's denying opportunity to women based on sex. The leagues you shut down will not be replaced by second tier men's leagues because, who really cares about that. So at best a few extra men would get opportunities for the thousands of women who get burned. That would be worse by far.

You're saying that because women are physical different than men, we will exclude them from competition and we will use all of the resources available for the Olympic games (of which women contribute their share) to provide a venue for men to compete. That is sexist.

That's kind of my point. We're creating opportunities exclusive to women in light of superior performers. We don't create a second set of medals for tier 2 men, but we do for women that are arguably worse then them, and it's based on sex. Giving someone treatment based on their sex and exclusive to that sex is sexist. Denying women the opportunity to complete in a publicly funded event would be sexist.

The exclusion is based on ability, not sex. What about all those men that didn't qualify for the Olympics but could perform better than the women? They're being excluded based on sex. If they were a woman with their performance, they'd be a world record holder. All these second tier men would still not make the olympics, because if you eliminated the women's competitions there wouldn't be twice as many medals and positions for men. Ask yourself how much of a market there is for leagues that don't have male teams and the women are not there primarily for sex appeal. I never said they were losing money, but the female side of those professional leagues are bringing in less money, so in cases where the pay is the same, the men are subsidizing the women's pay. Of course women don't bring in as much money. Dissolving women's leagues won't make room for more men's leagues though, they are two different products. Also, if there is a market for more men's leagues, they can be started without shutting down women's leagues.

You make a good point about media coverage. I agree that should be based on interest, not on sex. I disagree with basing all sports leagues on skill only. This would effectively eliminate women from sports (except racing) and most of the women's leagues would just disappear, they wouldn't become a second men's league.

If you re-read my post you will notice I just said women's sports weren't as successful as men's. They don't exist because of a corporate conspiracy to keep the second tier men out of sports, they exist because there is a market for them. People have tried creating 2nd tier men's sports in the past, there just isn't a big market for them.

I have had no problem separating the man from the message. This community has helped me relate better not only to all women, but all people. Actually, his ex-wife's hate for him was greater than her love for her children. I disagree that everyone would just pick this up on their own if they went out and socialized. I think some would be able too and some wouldn't. This is the reason school exists, because for most people it is easier and faster to learn something with guidance from someone who already understands it.
