Hehehe at this point I think I'm physically tired from responding :) Feminism at least was about equality, and the movement was, yes, specifically about women. It has grown to encompass more than just women. I would love to call myself, say, a humanist, and that would mean to people that I am embracing the roots of feminism. I still believe, not just based on studies but first hand experience, that there is still a ways to go for men and women to be on a level playing field (in many countries, t…

Not sure if you read the whole sentence. The point is that men feel they are lumped in with rapists and do not want to be. You appear to agree with that.

Please indicate where I said women should get more than men? I'm not for bringing men down to gain some kind of equality. It's about raising others up so that we're all on a level playing field. Again, women aren't worse off because I say so, but there are still many places where said playing field is not level.

As I posted initially, "...raging against feminism only discredits your cause. For all the legitimate experiences in this subreddit, blaming true feminism hurts. The majority of feminists do not wish men harm, only the obnoxious loud ones that make me want to punch them." My post is not to, in any way, marginalize the pain experienced from false rape claims and a broken legal system. The point is that "feminism" is not the enemy. The enemy is, as you stated, false rape claims and the legal syste…

When I speak with men, I talk about equality rather than "mens rights." That's not quite the same as categorizing all feminists in a bubble. Also, I didn't lump all of those in MR's together, I was responding to the links on the right of the main subreddit page and many of the posts I've seen.

You don't get karma from self posts, only from posts that link to something else. I don't generally engage in political posts on reddit, no, but I decided to share an opinion which blossomed quite the conversation. Problem?

Women often do not make more for the same positions. Sitcoms are your point of reference for all of the media? Ok, so one woman was almost vice president and one almost a candidate. That totally evened out the playing field. The division of those in domestic positions swings one way and public the other, rather than being closer to even.

I think this article touches on some of the remaining inequities. I'm no lawyer, so I have no first-hand experience. In the article you quoted, it says "The Center on Philanthropy's evidence supports the theory that gender differences in philanthropy are indeed real. A study conducted by center staff indicates that single women are significantly more likely than single men to make a philanthropic gift." - You're citing something that says women are more giving as well. Do you feel that way?

In my first-hand experience, I have earned less in equal positions where I actually had more experience. I know many women personally in the same position, and many studies say this remains the case, though thankfully on the decline. There are studies on the contrary, I tend to trust the other studies. Regarding circumcision, removing a clitoris is biologically not the same as a foreskin, but I completely respect those of the opinion that male circumcision isn't right. The legal system is full o…

Then it's really a children's rights movement. P.S. I don't consider a fetus a child, but both parties involved in creating the fetus should have input into the pregnancy. Certainly once a child is born, the mother should not have sole right to give away the child. My very close friend was just awared 50/50 custody in his hearing, which is what he wanted (I actually thought he should go for broke because his ex is crazy.)

Referring to Il128's post, I believe in the facts I've researched. I do not believe the vast majority of women that claimed to be raped are lying. I do not believe less than 5% of women are raped. Men in prison should not be compared to men by and large, nor to women by and large. Rape in prison is a different topic altogether. The initial goal of feminism and what many, many still believe is equality. Today, yes, gender equality is a more fair term, but that's not the name the movement has adopted. Maybe someday, and I would support that.

I am for passing that law because it provides the same equality as long as marriage has certain legal benefits. I would agree that ultimately there should be a legal union for all and marriage would be more of a committment under religion. I feel you with the whore exwife thing. But I must say, please don't feel the majority of women are like that. I was sexually assaulted as a young teen and I do not hold that against all men.
/r/MensRights14/01/11 03:39 PM

I'm not part of mens rights for supporting legal equality, and therefore not feminist. Ultimately I'd really rather be considered something different, but we don't have a popular term for that at this time. By and large I lean towards the beliefs held by the majority of feminists I know and respect, who believe equality. Mens rights, womens rights, if the goal is for equality than that is all I'm saying.

Just... wow. Sure, there are some unwarranted sexual harassment complaints. When I was sexually harassed, I chose to leave the company. Thankfully the majority men I work with now are happy to treat me as their equal and don't fear having to treat each other like "women."

Sigh I'm married. We are in a very equal relationship. Whoever has more time does the chores, essentially. My husband went back to school full time and I am actually the sole breadwinner, until he ultimately graduates. I do not hold that against him or treat him differently, even though I'm earning the money and he's spending it. We're a team. That's what I wanted, and thankfully that's what I got.

I believe in civil rights to this day, and it really means more than black rights anyway. Gay rights are civil rights as well. And I agree that certain laws and policies went way too far. MLK thought affirmative action type movements were crap, and I agree.

I am saying that I am involved with groups that support equal rights for all. I don't particularly gravitate to groups only trying to equalize men and women, when I see immigrants suffering much more than women in contemporary society. As far as the political appointment, if I'm unhappy with the way my city runs, of course it means a lot to get appointed and actually do something about it instead of just complaining.

Women, by and large, still experience more oppression than men, and that's just the way it is. That in no way excuses false rape accusations, abuse same, custody issues, etc. In my experience volunteering for a domestic abuse organization, we had men that came to us and we helped them. More women came to us, of course, but we never negatively judged a man for being abused. I would argue that feminists should want the courts to rule fairly and not be biased towards women in custody disputes.

I truly believe they are the majority. They're just loud. Many, many of us do great work for all people and these women give us a bad name. Just as the men that rape women give many men a bad name. I would never lump all men in with them - ever - and I truly hope someday people will stop lumping the majority of feminists in with the loudest and most few.

Much of that training isn't put together by women anyway. They are certainly not the only ones doing anything about it. That's just flat out incorrect. What are you talking about being freaked out by how men treat each other?

Many of those in the "white rights" movement believes that black people have risen too high in society and feel there should be a backlash. White people are by and large not oppressed in the US simply for being white. These are not people that want equality. How do my efforts mean nothing? The organizations I participate with do wonderful work, and I do work with those groups. I don't just sit there at meetings and go home.

Guh. I truly don't want to argue stats and the like. Regarding history I've studied, it's been at least 15 years of research, classes, conventions, committees, volunteerism and the like, including interviewing dozens of women for research projects. Some of the feminist icons I respect are Margaret Sanger, Abigail Adams, Lucy Stone, and Ellie Smeal. Probably cheesy, but my mom is the number one. I have no problem comparing mens rights to white rights, or straight rights to gay rights. At the end of the day, it serves to bring both groups down. I didn't want to cloud the conversation with my own work, but fine. I was appointed to the human rights council in my city (it's an official council of the city). Men are their own species? Feminism is the enemy? Again, this really isn't a war and it's sad that people see it this way. Those in "power" in the feminist movement represent me as much as those in power in government, which is to say shockingly little. As much as I vote for those I believe in, I support those I believe in.
/r/MensRights14/01/11 02:41 PM

It may seem that way and I can see how it would. I see it as women people abuse the food stamp program. For all of the people that need it, and for all of the rightfully accused rapists, people abuse both. Those people often garner the most attention, and it's harmful for everybody.

Court policies do not define the entire movement. Personally, I think affirmative action and measures like that only go against the main goals of a movement. I don't want to be treated in a special manner for being a woman. I want to be given equal opportunities. Of the women I know, by and large they feel the same. There are those that have more extreme views, and they may be the loudest, but they'r enot the majority.

Outranked and outnumbered by all other feminists? That kind of sweeping generalization makes it very hard to take anything else you wrote seriously. I also take great offensive to being called the intro to feminism feminist. You have no idea how much I have dedicated my life to equality for all people, which includes women. You don't seem to be seeing what I'm saying - I'm saying that the goal of empowering women was and is to bring women up to the level of men in society. It isn't some game where women are trying to capture the flag. Womens rights grew because the scales were so drastically uneven. Women certainly do not have more power than men in the majority of situations, especially globally.
/r/MensRights14/01/11 02:20 PM

Per the title, I said this is my opinion. I wasn't here to have a debate on statistics or things of the like. From the history that I have studied, and those feminists that I respect, they share my opinion of equality.

Just because something works a certain way doesn't make it right. Additionally, when a company is run by men, it would make sense that some of them value men above women, and don't think women can perform to the same level.
/r/MensRights14/01/11 02:17 PM

I'm assuming you're saying that based on who loudly declares that they are a feminist. However, I feel like that's comparing all gay people to those that fit stereotypes - not all gay people are loud and flamboyant, in fact the majority are not - and not all feminists are about advancing their own sex at the detriment to the other, and the majority are not. You shouldn't be anti-feminist. It sounds more like you're just anti-assholes-that-use-"feminism"-as-an-excuse-to-be-douches.
