As it's already said, don't refer to yourself as awkward. You're new, but then again, so is everyone else. This is the perfect time to push yourself outside your comfort zone. No one knows you, you know no one else. Be you. But push past what would've held old you back. Because no one knows the old you, they won't know that you're doing something you've never done before. There'll be people who'll appreciate it. Get out to Frosh week and get involved. Get to know people, and have fun!

I haven't contributed much on seddit, but if there's one thing I know cougars do NOT beat around the bush. Making interest known, and early, tends to lead older women into escalating as much as you do. They don't play games, but will shit test age, as stated by sparklyteenvampire, below. I wouldn't say it's easier, but it is a lot of fun.

You can sue a province. I took the term state to mean the government. Typically cases which involve provinces/the federal government involve constitutional issues. One such an example of a province being sued: Chaoulli v. Quebec (Attorney General). The AG, being the top lawyer for the province is named as the province's representative.

Re: guys becoming violent. The Tragically Hip (Canadian band) wrote a song about a man escaping from prison after killing his sister's rapist. It's called 38 Years Old, song and lyrics. Frankly, if I was in the same position, I'd probably follow the same logic.

It's a North American thing (though I don't know how widespread in Canada). Spencer's is essentially a joke shop. They try to more or less go as far as they can without raising too much ire of the PC brigade. On all sides. I'm sure there's a make counterpart to this sign. They sell whatever will make old guys, teenagers and the uneducated laugh.

My buddy gave me his copy to borrow. I love Strauss' writing, so it wasn't hard to pick up. It's better to go with the few issues that they know can get traction at one level or another rather than toss a whole pile of things at the wall and hope something sticks in this case. Contingency agreement. Settled before trial, the lawyer gets 25% of the settlement. If damages are awarded in trial, 33%. Yes, it seems like a large amount. But a claim can take years to be settled. In that time the lawyer needs to recoup for his hours, as well as pay office overhead and wages to law clerks and legal assistants.

I stand corrected on both counts. I'm not quite in law school yet - and under my current course load + work as a legal assistant, I'm lucky to remember what I did yesterday. One could argue mistake of fact - being told by the ranger that the sign could be ignored lead the men to believe that that could play chess in the area without repercussion. Due to said mistaken belief, they did not have the guilty mind (mens rea) accompanying the guilty act (actus reus). Edit: I'm not sure if the ranger has any legal authority if he does, my supposition still works. If not, the guys are screwed.
