Not really. 2 tricks. 1. To clean it after cooking all you have to do is; reheat the skillet. Like real hot. Turn on hot water. Super hot. Wash hot skillet with hot water, let the steam clean it. For rough items spread some salt and use a wood spatula with hot water. Take wet skillet and don't wipe it, just place inside a hot oven to let all the water dry. Pull out and while hot spread olive oil all over the inside part. Once it cools off smoother the it with olive oil all over. That's it.

Youtube is full of videos. Room temp steak, heat Skillet , salt and pepper the steak, 2 tablespoons grape seed oil, drop the steak when it's hot but before it starts to burn. Count 2 min on each side on high heat. Move off the heat. Drop some butter and crushed garlic with the coat on, and rosemary flip the steak , drop in the over for 2 min at 400 degrees. Remove from skillet , let seat for 10 mins on a plate. Enjoy. If you like em medium well or well done just keep longer in oven.

Cast iron on electric stove. The stove is not the issue. Pre heat the cast iron. Place the high smoking point oil after you pre heat. One to 2 min on each side depending on thickness of meat. And another one to 4 min in the oven at 400 degrees with the cast iron after you had it on the stove.
