The peak #MeToo years of 2012-2016 were also the peak years of many kinds of online Misogyny, where the movement was slandered and many people had an incorrect assumption about what it stood for. I'm doubtful that this is true, as rapists have always been seen as the most despicible people in society. I don't think anyone seriously thinks that the people who rape haven't yet realised that rape is bad, or haven't been told not to do it. I think its a bit misconstrued in thinking that it was aimed as solely locking up celebrities who acted in that way, as doing so in no way attempts to address the root cause of why these things happen.
