*fist it was a single punch, And the cop would arrest both parties only if the brawl continued. But in the court the punch would be seen as self defense because the person assaulted him. You are still wrong. He was legally in the right to defend himself from further assault, even if big wanna be tough guy doesn’t think its a big deal to get a drink thrown in your face, legally he was still in the right.

It would only be “revenge” after the fact, which it wasn’t, the liquid hadn’t even hit the ground when he threw the punch so it was during the act of assault and battery. Also he doesn’t know if she fully emptied the drink or whats even in the drink, you ever get an alcoholic beverage in your eyes? Its not very fun. He was legally in the right. But it does, and again it’s completely reasonable to punch someone once if they assault you. He wasn’t in the wrong. Reasonable force has to do with escalating to deadly weapons, not with how hard you punch someone because in the moment its hard to control that.

Legally it’s completely acceptable, throwing a drink at someone is assault, he is allowed to defend himself, he threw a single punch and stopped and he didn’t ground and pound or anything like that.
