What's interesting about that conflict is that it was one of the two main times guerrilla warfare flared up in European wars during the 19th century (the other being Napoleon's invasion of Spain). The francs-tireurs were basically plainclothes marksmen and the Prussians got so frustrated by their officers getting picked off by snipers all the time that they brutally suppressed any village that had the slightest link to them. Similar thing happened when the Germans invaded during WW1 and WW2.

It came as quite a revelation to me when I realised that, to put it crudely but truthfully, our moms want us to get laid. I never had any "talk" except for a very awkwardly-given sex ed class in high school. Had a couple of romantic disasters around the same time that introduced a lot of confusion, shame, and fear around the opposite sex that took roughly a decade to decode and shrug off.

Can confirm this, back when I used dating apps (they were primarily dating websites back then) there was noticeably higher activity in the big city I lived in, than when I moved to a rural area some years later. Another observation: The dating websites are also a lot more active when you're a student than after graduation. As a final year student I got a lot of dates before I met my then long-term gf.
