Yes, you did make a universal statement. Just because you chose the wrong words does not mean it wasn’t a statement that you made. It is your fault for being sloppy, not my fault for actually paying attention to what you say. A nuanced position is one in a which a person chooses their words precisely and carefully, where each word carefully constructs a specific meaning. You are the opposite of that. I never said relationships were as simple as rain. That is something you misunderstood, though I…

Did I literally just say that though? No, you presented an incoherent and contradictory argument that you made no attempt to clarify. No but you can read context and the clues were literally right there. Not everyone is going to spell things out for you every time. No, they weren’t clues. You were simply contradicting yourself, as though you didn’t remember all the things you had said. From my perspective, I have no way of knowing which contradictory point represents how you actually feel. That’…

It’s not a fucking straw man argument if I’m responding to words you literally said. How the fuck am I supposed to know which words you mean literally and which you don’t? I can’t read your mind. And seriously, if I misunderstood you, why the fuck didn’t you address that immediately? “Oh, so, I didn’t mean actually mean ‘no one’. That was hyperbole”. You had many opportunities to do that, yet you did not. Have some god damn humility and admit that you are the one who introduced the confusion int…

And then you continued to challenge my perspective by insisting that your narrow scope is far more suited to reality despite being equally as limiting No, that’s not what happened. This entire conversation had been me defending my position against straw man arguments. And no, I never said my narrow scope is more suited. Another straw man. I said that my experience in NYC disproved your universal claims. I also said: I'm not saying there aren't many girls who share your perspective. But your pers…

Dude, read my first comments. It’s not that hard. I asked you where you lived, to address the fact that different areas have different norms. Then I stated that where I live it’s not uncommon. My position in this argument has been very clear and consistent. I never once made a universal claim. Yes, you did: No one our age seriously considers dating an older man without a financial incentive. Why would we? “No one”. That is a universal claim. You didn’t say “where I live.” You said “no one”. I un…

Right, so that only applies to certain types of claims, as I said. A universal claim, like your own, can’t be substantiated using anecdotal evidence for a variety of reasons, and this being one of them. If I said that most relationships had large age gaps based on my observations, it is possible that I only believe that because I pay more attention to those relationships. But I am not making that claim. I am making a claim about the commonality of a certain occurrence, specifically the prevalenc…

I'm sorry, but at this point it is patently obvious that you simply lack the intellectual capacity to carry out a productive conversation of this nature.

No, your observations are not “just as good” as scientific data. I didn't say that. I said that are for certain questions, and then gave examples, which you conveniently ignored. You, on the other hand, are full of bias and are only willing to listen to the things you want to hear which is why you’re tuning me out. You don't know me, so how could you possibly know something like that? And if you knew a teenager who dated a 40 year old and are ok with it then that just makes you a pedo-apologist …

My personal observations of 20~ year olds dating 30~ year olds in NYC are as good as any scientifically gathered data. Anecdotal evidence is a perfectly valid form of proof for many assertions -- you can't simply dismiss any argument because it is based on a person's experience of the world. If I want to know whether or not it is raining outside, I can rely on anecdotal evidence. If I want to know whether or not biracial couples are common in the area I live, I can rely on anecdotal evidence: if…

Where do you live, might I ask? Because in major cities, it’s really not that uncommon to see that kind of an age gap. I see it all the time in NYC. You seem to be confusing your personal perspective with a universal norm.

On average, no, but the distribution may be significantly different: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variability_hypothesis

Uhh, a 33 year old man is not and “older man” — it is less than half of the modern life expectancy. Yes, it is older than 18, but when describing the age from the context of the human life span, it’s still relatively young.

Attractive men still have to work hard for success. Yes, women do seem to have an easier time getting laid as men value sex differently than women do, in general. It's just the way our hormones work. I'm not an ugly person, but I haven't had much success with women. I mostly chalk it up to my personality. I'm not very confident or assertive, so it's hard for me to draw women in my appearance bracket to me. Less attractive girls with lower self-esteem seem to like me, most likely because they rec…

I don't get it -- if you want to have sex with hot girls, why aren't girls allowed to want to have sex with hot guys? How could you expect women to like you for your personality, instead of your looks, when you clearly are fixated on appearance yourself? Just bang people that more or less match you in appearance like everyone else is doing. Problem solved. And it's not just women that care about looks, it's just a fact of human psychology that people of all sexes don't typically mate with people…

Not my logic -- the DSM-5's logic. There is a distinct categorical difference between humans who have gone through puberty vs those who haven't, and as such sexual to attraction to each group is pathologically distinct as well.

Sure, and that would be equally wrong as well. What happened was statutory rape, and would be regardless of who was which sex.

I'm not defending her, I'm defending the English language. And yeah, I'm also kind of defending her, because there is a huge difference between a person having sexual feelings for a 12 year old vs. a 16 year old -- which by the way is the age of consent in many states. A 16 year old is biologically ready to procreate and basically has fully developed secondary sexual characteristics, which biologically gives any sexually mature human the go-ahead to feel attracted to them. I'm not saying what ha…

People throw that word around a lot, but this teacher, based on this behavior alone, couldn't be considered a pedophile. Pedophilia is sexual attraction to prepubescent children, not sexually mature teenagers. This lady probably does have mental issues, but paraphilia isn't one of them.
