I think his reasoning is that if an effective oral contraception comes on the market, pharma companies would see more profit from that than a single-procedure option and would block the injection from FDA approval (they have far too much pull with the FDA). Female Birth Control is not 100% effective. Doubling up with both parties taking BC would dramatically reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies. Also, it lessens the worry that a partner might lie about or sabotage birth control thought to be in place in order to trap or blackmail. It would be a big step forward for men and women both.
