2	Gender Studies Career Gay, lesbians, bi are all sexual preferences, not gender or sex. Sexual preference is the gender or sex you’re attracted to. Even though sex and gender are used interchangeably most of the time, these are not academically the same thing. Sex is biological, it’s what you’re assigned at birth.
