The kind of democrat you describe is definitely a Moderate Republican in California. California is way more to the left than they are in the Midwest. I think OP will have a damnably hard time regardless, but the chances of finding a ‘red pilled’ Dem in California.... good luck :)

Would love to see elaboration about how your ideas are diverging from RP, if you’re inclined to share.

Oh man, where is it written that all personal growth is stopped by getting in a relationship? This idea took my parents to the brink of divorce. Thankfully, they both got into therapy (each with their own therapist), took more personal responsibility and rededicated themselves to their marriage. OP has lots to work on and a lot of your advice is spot on but she can progress without leaving the relationship.

Yes :) I hope you don’t feel I’m attacking you. You seem like a lovely person! The language you used would give me pause, but it’s very possible that it’s only semantics and that we agree or almost totally agree. I wish you and your husband all the best!

I definitely believe children should be a high priority but your spouse should know and feel that they always are and always will be your first priority. Children are not so fragile. They largely will be ok. Children should see a relationship where parents put each other first. They should know they are loved but that Dad will always put Mom first and Mom will always put Dad first. Family life is challenging and there will always be competing needs; I would want clear evidence that my spouse wou…

I want kids more than almost any person I know, so I don’t say this lightly: if a woman said anything along the lines of ‘kids will be priority’ or any sentence where and expression of her love and devotion to me were followed by the word ‘but’ - well, nothing squelches my desire for children so quickly. I don’t mind losing sleep, changing diapers or traveling less, but I would be incredibly upset if I felt my wife prioritized our children over me, her spouse.

I think this is mostly good while perhaps, bitter medicine. I reject the idea that a woman loses respect for a man if and when he changes his mind. She will lose respect if he allows her to ‘break him down’ through nagging, withholding sex, et cetera. But human nature allows us to respect and even admire people as they change and grow. She may be best off leaving him, I don’t know. He may grow into the desire to be a father. If and when he does, I don’t think she will lose respect for him. Like …

Crazy idea: “Honey you know when you do that kind of kid-talk thing, like when you say ‘yeth’?” Wait for him to acknowledge what you’re referring to, then: “I find that kind of off-putting/irritating/choose your own word.” Acknowledge any comments or questions he has if indeed he has any at all. That will probably do the trick. The proactive stuff yould like him to be takin on (ie. Planning, initiative and vision) is a much bigger challenge and probably will be quite the slog. I think lots of re…

It’s unfair and unrealistic to expect a partner to work 11.5 hours per day and commute another 3. Most people are not capable of fully showing up as a romantic partner as well as giving 14+ hours a day to work. This schedule should be temporary or it should be understood that the quality of the relationship, sexually and otherwise, will continue to deteriorate. I would explain the problem thus, ‘Since I started working more, I’ve been much more tired and my libido has diminished, so much so that…

Ideally, a guy would not talk like this while in a relationship, in fact ideally a guy would never talk like this. As many people have said, this type of talk is extremely common among men, when no women are present. It’s strange and concerning to me that your boyfriend would speak like this in front of you. It seems that he is either somewhat socially inept (not realizing how his words affect you) or he is trying to manipulate you in some way. Both are problematic. I would kindly confront him p…

Somewhere there is a line between cold and cruel. If something doesn’t seem cruel, I wouldn’t worry about it. Nothing you mentioned seems even close to cruel. That said, I think it is fruitful to ask earnest questions like, “the other day I noticed our son asked to be carried and you declined. I probably would have picked him up since I’m a softy. I would be curious to know what went through your mind in that situation.” I’d imagine he didn’t think much of it one way or another and will probably…

I'm white, American, raised religious but have been agnostic for my adult life (ie. do not attend church, read widely including texts of various religions). If I were married without children, the same principle applies: How can I as a husband best steward my family beginning with the most vulnerable? (Presumably my wife - if we have no children) This could take any of 1000 forms but I have a hard time imagining it would be her staying home. Hard work is a virtue. Living modestly is a virtue in …

I am an agnostic conservative American. When thinking about marriage, there are areas where you have a huge amount of latitude and areas where you have almost none. For example, sexually, I close the door on being involved with all other women, therefore, I am going to be keenly interested that my wife is a suitable sexual partner. In contrast, I maintain total freedom to decide how, when and by whom the home is cleaned, therefore I don't really care if my wife is some house cleaning guru. This …

My own mother is a gifted writer and speaker. Additionally, she started a successful fashion company selling to Nordstrom and other retailers when I was a child. Overtime she consistently scaled back her own success in order to be available as a wife and mother. This included homeschooling some of us five kids, some of the time (never all at the same time). Uniformly all of us have the utmost respect and love for my mother and father and their agreement on orienting time and attention towards us…

I totally agree; for most women, I don’t think the trade was worth it. I was just rereading your - very excellent - original response and wanted to respond to one other point. You discourage withholding sex to get commitment. You make the point, that to do so would be an unsuccessful boycott. I would push back against the purely market terminology here. Sex partners are not completely fungible to men. They are perhaps semi-fungible. Further, the risks of engaging in sex falls disproportionately …

I love this response. I think it’s spot on. The only thing I might mention is while it’s true that the balance is tilted quite strongly against women when it comes to relationships as compared to their grandmothers, gains are made in other areas: legal recourse and professional opportunity for example. It’s not all bad across the board, but the gains in some areas are largely paid for by losses in relationship and sexual dynamics.

‘Learn about perspectives outside your own’; if you don’t agree with them, fire the perpetrator of thought crime! Making an argument good, bad or otherwise is not a transgressive activity. It does not make one innocent or guilty of anything except free thought.

This sounds like a Dwight Shrute story line from The Office. Lol I don’t doubt horses are very expensive, but the few horse people I’ve known are very wealthy. Anyway, I still laugh about the girls in grade school who were all about their horses so maybe the OP has a point.

One of the weaknesses of r/theredpill is that it’s view of women is very static. Basically, the red pill definition of hypergamy is that all women are PERPETUALLY seeking a man of higher quality. That’s true but it doesn’t take into account the infinite factors that a woman considers before leaving one man for another. A woman’s hypergamy for example is in conflict with her desire for stability. We recognize that men’s goals often conflict with those of women but we rarely acknowledge that each …

Ok, LES, West Village or Meat Packing --- but, I would recommend a sublet to see if it makes the logistic difference you think it will. It might. Find a place you can live for 3 months and get a feel for it. Even with roommates, you're going to pay a bunch more in those neighborhoods-anywhere in Manhattan below 86th really. As many have mentioned, LIC, Astoria and Sunnyside are better 'value' options. After ten years in New York, I believe your frame is a lot more important than the logistics of…

Yeah man keep at it and don't lose your humanness. I'm 32 so probably a bit older than you. Not sure I was always great at finding the right balance. I think this just takes some experience to find it.

May I ask you to clarify what you mean when you say vent? Do you mean complain? Like what did it deal with and what kind of things did you say? I ask because while I find that while women, everyone really, hate a complainer, they are receptive to a man who can say 'I'm killing it at work and would like to be promoted into such and such position. Person X stands in my way and I'm thinking of handling it in the following way....' and share thoughts or feelings about that. Or 'I really love my mom …

I do think the author overstates how much sex men are having however he doesn't over state how much sex men who are generally perceived as desirable are having. By desirable I mean assertive, above average income, looks, humor, sociability, ect. Most women value the same things in men. Some of those women-a rather high percentage-are willing to engage in sex with those men without commitment. This makes it much harder to find men who are both desirable and relationship oriented. Tl:dr the author…

It seems like this forum is big on 'bring the problem not the solution'. This is a perfect place to apply that. Something like: "When I think about us getting married, it makes me uncomfortable to think about your debt, especially in the unlikely event that our marriage ended, god forbid. It makes me uncomfortable because..." You can continue from there regarding any other concerns you have. He'll listen and his problem solving side will kick on and the solutions he offers will be incredibly rev…

I see. I've never understood any case for morality in an atheistic framework, consent at that point is the least of all considerations. Removing deism from the equation, the closest concept to morality that I can infer would be ethics. So, given an atheistic premise, I would agree that sexual activity is amoral, with or without consent.

Consent does not eradicate any moral question. One or more people can happily consent to something immoral. I'm not saying it is or is not moral, simply that I reject the notion that simply by the fact that it was consensual, it follows that it is a moral or amoral choice.

Make first dates simple. Really simple. Coffee or one drink, two at most. No full meals no activities longer than 90 minutes. On the one hand, I don't think you can realistically filter people before meeting them in person. On the other, the longer and more costly the date, the harder it is to sync your expectations with his. If a guy suggests dinner and a museum, say, "that sounds great but unfortunately, I don't have that much time. Could we grab a drink at <venue> from <60-90 minute window>?"…
