I felt filing significantly reduced my anxiety about surprises showing up (such as domestic violence claims). Also, her talking to a lawyer seemed to help her be much more accountable for her own unpredictable and volatile behavior. She was jerking the kids around and not honoring exchanges and stuff. OP is withdrawing but not fully going cold turkey no-contact and thus only dragging out his symptoms.
