I'm not sure what you mean to imply by this comment. Would you mind elaborating for me?

same reason civil rights groups were often termed "black power" movements And yet the most successful egalitarian movements have always been the ones that emphasized equality rather than using race-specific terminology. You will not find any MLK quotes that talk about "black power", only racial equality and harmony. The reason that those movements were more successful is that claiming to be for equality, while using terminology specific to only one side of the equation has a tendency to alienate…

my Tuckerite market anarchist views, which aren't capitalist How is your market anarchism not capitalist? (I mean, what is your definition of capitalism, and how is it different from Rothbardianism?)

No, I was talking specifically about your unnecessary correction of what was most likely a typo. Everyone knows that thekadar81 meant "clarify", and not "clarity". Your correction added nothing to the discussion, other than giving your comment a condescending tone.

I agree though, the term is beginning to become redundant. My problem with the term is that it is confusing to many people. Most importantly, it confuses a lot of female-supremacists into thinking that they are "feminists" because the female gender is in the title. As an example: I am an extremely libertarian individual (in the American sense of the term). When the Ron Paul crowd started the "tea party" movement, I was completely on board, because I mostly agree with Ron Paul's political philoso…

Why does it make sense to single out one gender to be the namesake for an ideology that claims to have the goal of equality? This, I think, is a major problem, when, for instance, a lot of women claiming to be "feminist" use a definition of "feminism" which is more along the lines of female supremacy than equality. "Men's rights" for instance, can't reasonably be construed as anything other than the assertion that men have rights. "Women's rights" are just as important (of course). These are mov…

Replace the category of "dad" in the ad with the name of any other minority and I think you might see why that is not really a valid rebuttal. "a [insert task] even a [gender- or race-specific category] could perform!" In the early 20th century, implying that black people were inferior was a common thread. Marketers may have been "just using" it, but that didn't make it any less racist.

I think we should focus on the bright side of this particular post, and recognize that it was posted out of a sense of shame the OP had that her friend would do such a terrible thing. Perhaps she should do more to intervene, but at least she recognizes and disapproves of the behavior. I feel it would do us more good to point out the positive than to discourage the negative aspects of this particular situation.

It's really quite a minuscule and inactive subreddit, and it's really just a link. I have nothing against "white rights", although they seem to be more interested in white supremacy. But I don't think it's ok to demand people stop linking to a page on the internet.

It's sad to see the level of debate there has degraded to such a one-sided circle-jerk (or should I say scissor-fest, or something... not sure). I saw the post yesterday, and there were actually some really articulate responses in the top few positions representing our side. Now those have obviously been downvoted to oblivion, and it's nothing but "you go girl!" and "I'm a man, and I agree (please have sex with me)".

Try not being hostile and not hypocritically being disparaging toward men as a collective while deriding men for doing the same toward women. You'll still get some bitter men who'll be jerks no matter what, but I think for the most part you'll find we all want the same thing, really.

Because the only possible motivation for men wishing not to have to live in fear of false rape claims is that we just want to be able to rape people and get away with it. Shit! DJgiantboydetective has figured us out! Our master plan is foiled. Ok people, let's pack it up, they're on to us...

I have heard the term mostly while skating. In that context, it means "don't be a pussy, it's just a broken wrist", or something along those lines. I've heard the term in the context of a guy acting like a child, for instance: "you're a grown-ass man now. Man up, get a job and pay your god-damned rent check!". In my experience, the term means "don't be a pussy", "stop acting like a child", and in general "you're better than this, start acting like it". The term may be applied in an offensive way…

trollking: can you clarify exactly what you mean when you say: this is nothing but a lame attempt at appropriating and colonizing male rights issues. She doesn't want men to question this on their own terms without feminists and female permission and guidance because then men might come to some conclusions that might not benefit women and feminists.

What's more, she could convince others that messing about with software and data is not a sad activity undertaken only by teenage boys who need to get out more, but is in fact really rather cool. This sentence is offensive to both men & women: It's offensive to men because it implies the general perception is that teenage boys learning a valuable skill which is necessary to modern society is a "sad activity", & they need to get out more (which is an outdated notion by about 15 years now, obvious…

Perhaps in the circle of jock meatheads she's partial to getting blackout drunk with at frathouse gangrape parties, but not in most guys' opinions. Exactly my thoughts! What about women's rights makes anyone think that it's necessary for women to be able to enter a men's locker room? It's just a bathroom connected to a dressing room!

I think the target market is women, & the key appeal of the show is a simulation of humor by providing an example of of a man that confirms their belief that we are incompetent. The fact that he tries hard is just supposed to be 'cute', like a puppy that thinks he's people. Of course, if he overcomes his incompetence at some point in the show, then I may have been wrong, because that would confirm that he is in fact capable of being a good father if he works hard enough at it. However, based on …

I don't want equality for the sake of equality. If everyone's just equally jerks to each other, that doesn't solve problems. Why don't we be the civilized ones, & not treat women as inferiors, even if they're jerkholes to us. Being jerks back just adds more fuel to the out of control feminist fire.

I didn't see "getting people to pretend they're better at most sports than they actually are" anywhere on the list. (granted, there are sports that they tend to be better at than men, & I don't believe it makes men better people, or that women should be subordinate, but when can we all just agree that the natural effects of increased levels of testosterone include significant improvements in physical strength and ability?)
