The change over time to increase the women's pension age from 60-65 in stages has been in law since 1995, if not earlier. What the women were contesting at Court was the time frame for the stages being sped up. Im not saying I agree with the way they argued their case at all. Almost every prisoner is eligible for release after serving half their sentence (I know 7 isn't half of 17 but time she spent in jail awaiting trial will also count) and then they spend the rest of the sentence under strict conditions, which if they break they go straight back to prison. She was sentenced a year after the fire I believe, so my guess is that she spent that year on remand in custody awaiting trial. Time on remand counts towards your sentence, so it would actually be 8 out of 17. I know that still isn't half but there's probably a combination of (1) longer than a year on remand, (2) longer than 7 years in prison but the articles is rounding it down, and/or (3) less likely but slightly less than a 17 year sentence and the article is round… | /r/MensRights | 30/11/20 08:50 AM |

"Malice" means having the desire to hurt someone, or ill will. So in this context it would mean calling him a wife beater deliberately to cause him loss/harm.
