You were trying to downplay the significance, and are now acting like it made no difference in the first place. You're one slippery little weasel. That was my point all along: violence is any form is almost always not the way to go.

You're right, so judgmental. Is that couch comfy? Can I get you some water? Tell me about your mother.

You're either deliberately misrepresenting the facts, or you've allowed your preconceived notions to warp the facts of the case: You said: while you're obsessing over a slap this man potentially gave his wife years ago OP said: I remember he didn't take shit from anybody and drank and smoked a lot when I was younger and even beat my mom when she got out of line. There was not "a slap" that was "potentially" given. OP stated in his own words that his father beat his mother. You're full of shit. D…

You're assuming I think some types of abuse are OK. Please provide something I posted that led you to believe that. The fact that I focused on the physical abuse should not surprise anyone. If someone is verbally abusing you, there are many things you can do that do not involve hitting them, including leaving them. Just because I didn't talk about the verbal abuse from the wife doesn't mean I condone that; I just don't think it in any way excuses or justifies physical violence.

There are times when a good slap is about the only thing that gets the attention of such people. I agree this is sometimes the case. However, given the current level of violence experienced in our society, I think my point about alternatives is more important to emphasize than your point about a slap sometimes being the only way to get through. I can recall a time when a quick slap really set me straight as a child, and it wasn't even approaching abuse; there are many such situations. So I reall…

Fucking me is not wasting my time dear. That is exactly what he should have replied with, without saying another sentence on the matter. It lets her know you care at least THAT much (enough to sleep with her), but nothing more, and you waste no more effort or time on it.

But it sounds like she deserved it The point of being against physical violence wherever it occurs is that we reach dangerous territory when we start arbitrarily deciding who deserves to be hit. I agree that sometimes it really seems like people deserve to be socked in the face. I'm just not confident in my own ability (or that of others) to properly assess when it is deserved. There are almost always alternatives to physical violence, and I think we could brainstorm a few for this situation as …

Well that's a nice little scenario. But who has good intentions when they hit their spouse when get "out of line"? What could the good intentions possibly be? And even if they had good intentions, it doesn't make the act of physical violence OK. We have every right to draw conclusions about someone being a pretty big loser if they hit their spouse when they get "out of line," regardless of whatever good intentions you can dream up.

Actually, the way sitcoms portray men is excusable in the sense that they have the free speech to show those stories, especially considering the fact that people are willing to watch them. I didn't "implicitly condone" the so-called abuse of sitcoms portraying men as idiots. I pointed out that that is not even close to on par with beating women. Honestly, it's kind of pathetic that you think what some sitcom does is abuse. Smacks of being a whiny bitch to be honest. There are bigger problems for…

I've never been, I will take your word for it. Perhaps this is leaking over to here, but that certainly wasn't my motivation. I really do find it inexcusable, regardless of what the PC crowd thinks. Oh ya, I've just been brainwashed by the BP media to think beating women is bad, my fault. Give me a break guys.

Wrong. Most people here have dedicated RP accounts. It has nothing to do with managing our image, and everything to do with realizing that some loser who hits his wife when she "gets out of line" is someone who I would never want to associate with in any situation.

What the fuck? All we have to go on is his post. There's enough there to realize his dad is a low-life. So now TRP is a therapy session where we all gather around and offer sympathy, and if we don't have something positive to say we should not post anything? Ya, that's really dumb. We are allowed to call them like we see them, and let the voting system work. You're not even willing to defend his dad's actions; instead you bitch and moan about how we should be offering sympathy. No thanks, he can…

A man can raise $100 billion for a starving country, but if it gets out that he touched a woman 30 years ago, this immensely benevolent deed is suddenly worth shit and people just focus on this one little 'flaw' that is laying a hand on a woman. They are separate actions, and are judged separately. We don't add up everyone's actions and "balance out" horrible actions with good ones. Using your fucked up logic, Bill Gates can go around murdering a few people here and there, since he's saved milli…

Hitting your wife when she gets "out of line" is the epitome of piece of shit. Might be hard for you to accept that since he is your father, but it's still inexcusable behavior.

If you think abuse is awful, I'd fucking love to see you contact every television studio and complain about how shitty-ly they treat men in every sitcom in existence. Right, the way sitcoms portray men is totally on par with beating your wife. You didn't mention shit about the mother's cuntiness Oh the wife was a cunt? Sorry, I missed that. Totally excuses the physical violence. His fathers actions are inexcusable. You can talk about sitcoms or how mean the wife was all you want, doesn't change …

Actually, if you read my posts, I said he would be right to leave her. Just saying your actions at age 17 don't fully reflect your adult self. Your brain isn't even close to done developing; 17 year olds are essentially children.

I remember he didn't take shit from anybody and drank and smoked a lot when I was younger and even beat my mom when she got out of line. Sorry, I'm as RP as they come, but your dad sounds like a complete piece of shit. That behavior sounds like the actions of a child. Downvote me all you want people, but smoking, drinking, and beating women is unacceptable, no hamstering involved. How the fuck can I look this man in the eyes anymore. Not surprising. If my father had ever beat my mother, I would …

I actually agreed it was wrong for her to do. I'm simply saying that your actions at age 17 are not fully reflective of what you will become as an adult. Doesn't make it right, doesn't mean he should forgive her and be glad he married a whore.

To play devil's advocate, she was 17 years old. I totally agree she should not have done this, and he is a fool for taking it, but let's not sit here and pretend that she was some fully developed adult who decided to get railed. I am willing to write off her behavior as a childish indiscretion, but chalk this up to yet another reason you should seek out a mate who is at least 21 years old. It's much easier to deal with some shit like this if you didn't know her at the time.

OK so the post's title is imperfect. Wow, I've never seen that before, stop the presses. You're interested in having a little debate about correlation and causation. Correlations are all we need in order to make adjustments to our behavior; it frankly doesn't matter if poverty causes sluttiness or vice versa, for the purposes of men adjusting their behavior when it comes to pursuing women. The questions you seek to answer are worthwhile, but not in the context of a man trying to navigate the dat…

To quote the post you threw a hissy fit about: They date because they want sex. With someone sexually attractive. And your attractiveness is under your control. I think you took this to mean that attractiveness = good looks. There's a lot of discussion here about how you can improve your attractiveness to women, and looking good is only one component of that. People here talk about working out, dressing well, succeeding in your career, pursuing valuable hobbies - all of which leads to confidence…

Your post contains many insults and no reasoning. You're the worst parent.... brainwashing.... ridiculous.... you're a dumbass.... as retarded as you.... I tried to find an argument in there, but there's only whining and name-calling. Insults: when the hamster can run no further. And I feel bad for your sons No one gives a shit how you feel. We might care about what you think, if you could actually spell it out for us. I'm guessing this sub isn't helping your blood pressure. There's the door.

You've opened up a huge discussion... IMO group selection is pretty much bogus. Read some evolutionary biology books if it interests you; we have every reason to believe natural selection occurs at the level of the genome.

How can you be so sure? He can't.

For our purposes, the correlation is good enough. We're trying to navigate the world of women, strong correlations of this nature are all we need. There's not much gained from worrying about what caused the problem. If you're raising a daughter, then your point is important to keep in mind.

I think there are a lot of angles you could take that still revolve around addressing the ad to men. It's important to keep the ad as close to the originals as possible; switching who the ad talks to could confuse people or make it less effective. Here's an example of what I mean: show a fat/ugly woman coming up behind her husband and rubbing his shoulders, with a wanna-be sexy (yet obviously gross) look on her face. The husband kind of flinches, gives her a weak smile, and then begrudgingly pop…

Nice attempt to remove female agency, but it doesn't work that way. The point is, absent rape etc., the person responsible for PIV is the woman. If one guy refuses, there will still be 1000 lined up ready and willing. If the woman refuses, it doesn't happen, end of story (again absent criminal actions).

As I approached my 30s, my feelings began to change. I lost interest in "fun" and began to care more about stability. I wanted an emotional connection, I wanted a relationship. When I couldn't have those things, I DID feel depressed. I see this as an entirely natural shift, common across all my female friends A complete failure to connect the dots. She had over a decade to cash out her high SMV, converting that into a stable, rewarding LTR with a valuable man. She didn't just choose the carousel…

Again, the label of "neediness" is simply used to shift the blame onto the man, and deflect from the fact that she doesn't want to admit what she actually likes. This argument falls apart when you consider that generally, men also do not like needy men. It comes across as insecure or desperate to both men and women. There's no hamstering involved; it's an undesirable quality in someone you're interacting with. When I say I don't like to have needy male friends, am I just hamstering and refusing …

Perhaps you're joking, but these are the kinds of comments that give the community a bad name. Trash like your post gives ammunition to others to discredit ALL of the worthwhile ideas in this sub. If you were joking, you could at least make it, you know, funny, and perhaps a little more obvious that it's a joke.
