Thank you. It’s really paid off too. Felt proud for not being his ego massager any longer.

I’m new. I didn’t know what the message was. Now I’ll be more careful.

There will always be a subset of disaffected people who become radicalized in some way: religious zealots, misogynists, racists etc. They are typically underprivileged and undereducated. Not much you can do to reason with them.

Honestly, why bother? He’s probably hoping for the attention. There are many sad, small people in the world.

I just called out a guy I was “seeing” on this. See my recent Well I Got Played post for the backstory. In our brief wrap up conversation I said, “Next time have the courage to have the difficult conversations earlier.” Maybe if we all keep beating this drum people will listen.

The three men I have had ltrs with (21, 4 and 2.5) years not only didn’t put me first but I was way down their list of priorities. I was raised in the 70’s and 80’s. Just at the beginning of “equality” for the sexes but obviously old habits die hard, for both genders. Now we have so much more awareness but it’s still very difficult to find men who are truly willing to prioritize their partners. I’m curious, are there any lesbians here on FDS? What is your experience? Is this a gender based matte…

Thanks I’m proud of me too. I handled myself in a way that was fair, kind and appropriate. There was a follow up apology email from him. Self serving perhaps but it did feel like there was a genuine apology and regret. I acknowledged receipt and asked for a five minute follow up call last night. We had the call and I thanked him for his letter, politely and unemotionally called him out on a couple of things and confirmed I didn’t not want to have a friendship or further contact. He listened and …

To: husheveryone I think we dated the same guy. LOL Truly though, thank you so very much for your post. I really needed that today. I slept like crap and have been feeling pretty low but your post lifted me up and I greatly appreciate that. You have no idea how much. I do have a post script that I will write later today to fill everybody in on the last steps in this short journey. I was given a small gift of closure, which one rarely gets, so I’m thankful for that at least.

Lol I did the same. I had a friend who is a contractor measure me barefoot while I stood on a flat surface with my back flat against a wall. Exactly 5’7”. Thing is I wouldn’t have an issue dating a shorter guy but I do have an issue dating a liar.

Or they just lie outright. I see “athletic and fit” labels for men 20 or more pounds overweight and trust me if they are shorter than 5’10” they will lie about their height. I am 5’7” barefoot and always wear flat shoes. I can’t tell you how many times I end up taller than men who are supposedly taller than me.

You could even express a preference but leave it open for him to choose something. You could say, “something outdoorsy” or “something artsy”.

Everyone has been so generous with their thoughts and ideas. It’s been very enlightening and I feel so much better reading everything. I like the idea of gentleman callers and thanks for the concept of low value men. A local man I’ve known forever platonically wrote me a text a few weeks ago and listed all the positive qualities he sees in me. They were really nice things, things I believe to be true. If someone I want a romantic relationship with won’t recognize and acknowledge those things in …

Yeah this guy is actually about five years older than me but yes, you get it. There’s just something about him, and he knows it. I always wondered how cult leaders came to be. Now I know.

Thanks. That’s what’s so sad though. This guy really had substance. We spoke of the arts, politics, world events, literature. He’s cultured and well rounded and fiercely intelligent. But, I just wasn’t IT for him. He was for me but I think I simply bored him. I’m a normal person, normal life, no drama and I’m super kind. I think he’s one of those tortured artists who needs angst to function. Or, he just wasn’t that into me. We’ll never know.

I have to remember that in my amazing town there are also youngish widows, women like me who were left for the younger model after 20 or more years and women who are riding out their shitty relationships for reasons of their own. I do want a best friend and lover but I won’t accept crumbs. A man doesn’t have to build the Taj Mahal for me but he should look at me and think “what a lucky man I am” more often than not.

Thank you for those threads. You know what’s funny? I’m almost 49 and get hit on irl by men in their late 20 to mid 30s often enough that it’s not a fluke. I’m a rock climber, runner etc and in great shape. These men see a strong independent woman (I think) and are interested. Of course it could be bs but the point is the guy I mentioned in my op is about 20# overweight, and glancing at his glass front medicine cabinet is on all kinds of meds. He drinks a bit too much, smokes pot and eats poorly…

Totally. I know women in that place of being trapped. My loneliness gets overwhelming some days but last week I joined an ultra running club and I will run with them on their easy days. Already been embraced by some awesome women which is a new experience. I feel thankful today.

Lol nope. I left that guy this June. 2.5 years utterly wasted with that one. At least this guy turned me on to some great music. 😁

Yes to all of what you wrote and clearly he showed his intentions. It was up to me to decide what to do with the information I had. Admittedly I hoped he’d “fall for me in time”. I have a lot of d programming to re code but I’m working on it. Thanks to everyone here for listening and the support.

I really appreciate you sharing that. And yes it’s true I do know many people in relationships who are very very alone within them men and women alike. I needed that reminder. Thank you.

I found this to be true so many times. Here’s what I have started doing recently to move things along. A few texts back and forth followed by me saying, would you have time for a chat on the phone (whenever I think would be good for me). We talk. If there’s enough still there I suggest a meet if he hasn’t already. I usually suggest grabbing a coffee and taking them along for a walk around town or a local, well used urban trail. I like a mid am meet because if you are having fun and want to conti…

I know a couple of guys who got suckered this way too. I think the bottom line is if someone can’t do for themselves you might want to reconsider having them in your life.

It’s a plague in my town. Men dumping their wives and long term significant others for much younger women. I’m glad to know it’s not just me noticing.

I did the time limit thing a few years back. Bf kept making an important promise and then reneging. After the third or fourth time I circled a date in the calendar about six months out and wrote LEAVE if the promise hadn’t been fulfilled. It wasn’t and I left. We had no contact for years but live in the same small town and are friendly now. I know he regrets losing me but I simply will not be breadcrumbed. I’d rather live alone.

Totally happened to me. 21 years in service to a man only to be replaced by a twenty something he idolizes-and married. To all of you young ladies. Take OPs post to heart. I’m 48 and dating which is not where you want to be.
