Yep, I was introduced to his parents before we even were dating. Then official introduction a week into dating! His parents adored me, but were also of the opinion he could do literally no wrong. When he flipped out at me in front of them, they calmly talked him down and blamed the tequila he was drinking 100 percent. Didn't hold him accountable at all. It wasn't until later that I realized this is where his "can do no wrong" attitude came from.

Yeah, when we would go in the restaurants even months later, the wait staff (particularly women) would always say things like "I've missed you so much! Where have you been?" I'm guessing she was trauma bonded. The crazy lows, then forgiveness, followed by highs. She was being abused. As women, we need to remember real abuse can easily follow emotional abuse. My personal opinion is that she decided she wanted to leave him after their trip ended and he retaliated. The most dangerous time to be with an abuser is when you want to leave them, and she was literally trapped in a van with him across the country.

On this same note, I was driving around with a guy for months before I learned he had a restricted license and technically wasn't supposed to be driving anywhere but home and work... I had no clue. If you are staying half and half, neither of you pay rent. I personally don’t eat dinner with my boyfriend except here and there we make a meal together. Clean up after yourself. Cook for yourself. Don’t touch messes he made. Have him stay at your place as well if possible. I would avoid situations where you are indebted to them for letting you stay at their place but I know it can be unrealistic.
