If it floats, flies or fucks, it's cheaper to rent than buy ;)

Yep. Marriage is a complete nonsense that destroys lives. The reasons for it's existence have long since disappeared, but it's so ingrained within society that trying to rail against it gets you labled ad a red pill lunatic, a misogynist, etc etc. Hopefully one day we'll work our way out of it. I'm just gutted that I'm part of the generation that fell for it, and have had a good chunk of my life nulled.

What is an 'undisclosed institution'? Edit : and 'cold' crypto wallet?

Thanks. It sounds like you understand my situation well - the 3rd and 4th paragraph is right on the money. How I navigate it from here, I have no idea. A lot of commenters have said I need to find happiness in myself, not from another woman - I don't think that is what I'm trying to do. For most of my life, I have been depressed and with low self esteem, and have allowed myself to be in a relationship we're I am 'henpecked' and talked down to. It's what I felt i deserved I guess. The past four/f…

I think that second book should be an international best seller.

Yeah. Understood. She's a good woman out of the context of 'us'. And what we have now is 'relative' harmony. For a long time it was truly awful massive blow outs every week or so. We have a peace, so to speak. One with little passive aggressive barbs and sniping. With monthly blow outs instead of weekly. We do get on a lot better, but the baseline was pretty low.

That behaviour sounds similar to my wife. I've been very codependant for many years though, so i never saw it. Done so much work on myself, over the past few years. So much therapy and self improvement and now I'm seeing it, and I've had enough. It's just the kids that hold me back.

You didn't sound harsh, no worries! Really appreciate your input. Cheers 👍

My wife is attractive, works hard, intelligent and a great mum. But she belittles me, rages over tiny shit, wants to bring the world down to her mood and is generally mean and miserable for 80% of the time. She doesn't seem to approve of anything I do, and treats me like an idiot, and it's taken me years to realise I'm actually not an idiot, but successful and desirable. So yeah, a 15yrs younger bikini model who actually appreciates me sounds pretty good.

What's IC? We neatly pulled the trigger re divorce last year but pulled it back because of the kids. Thinking about myself versus the family unit is what I struggle with. It feels more right to sacrifice my happiness for the family, and I guess it is, right? But, christ, its miserable. I think open marriage would be a no, absolutely. One life, though, right? Whats your experience, if you don't mind me asking?

Physically, she's attractive, it's just her personality that's put me of her 😂 I couldn't see a romantic trip working for us.

Greece, nice idea, but kids lol. We have tried stuff like this, but, you know, we just don't get on beyond running a family. We're so different. I know what you mean, its worth trying everything, but for how long. I've been trying for so many years. But I am in a nice spot, as you put it. But at what cost? Who fuckin knows lol Nuke the family - sigh thats such a killer phrase though, sums it up. Horrible to think about.

Mine is physical touch and affirmation. We've had sex once in past two years, and she constantly belittles me. I don't even think she knows she's does it. And if I ever try to tell herhow i feel, she gets defensive and starts crying.

This seems to be the unpopular view, but I think you raise really valid points about relationship modelling. We never hug, we never kiss. We have relentless petty arguments. We show little affection. She talks down to me in front of the kids. I've already noticed some co-dependant traits sneaking into my older kids behaviour. If I may, who initiated the divorce in your marriage, and how would you say things are going now?

Well, I'd have no intention of ever, ever, getting married again. I just want meaningful companionship. Maybe I'm missing something that doesn't really exist.

We're about 5 years down of trying everything you have suggested. It's gone past a rut, really. I think she does feel the same way. We nearly pulled the trigger earlier this year, but talked ourselves out of it, due to the kids really. But thanks, appreciate the suggestions. We seem to have reached a steady state of "don't ask, don't tell", keep the ship running. I can't see us improving, so it's a question of do I pack it in and nuke the family, or suck it up.

Thanks man. Your third paragraph is a scenario that worries me. Ofc from where I'm standing now, I wouldn't imagine that happening, but i bet you thought the same... The life we have is very good, by many people's standards. I'm just miserable and miss being in love lol my days are filled with what-ifs and longing and have been for years. Maybe I'm just a miserable twat 😅

A few people have suggested that. I just don't think it would be anything she would ever consider, ever. I could be completely wrong, or course, but from what I know of her, I think the shitstorm from even suggesting it would be epic.

We've done therapy for years. It stopped our marriage being a war zone and has enabled us to function as good coparents. It can't make us love each other.

Thanks, I'm trying :) Sounds like you've done a good job, kudos to you, I know how hard it is and how much money a family costs - to get your daughter through college with no debt is impressive. I've got a long way to go - had kids late. Let's see how long I can do it... lol it gets harder every year as I feel my time running out.

I feel you. Without children I would have been gone a loooooong time ago. It's hell resigning myself to this loneliness in order to try and do the right thing by my kids. And the plot twist is - am I even doing the right thing by them? Who fucking knows..

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
