No it's a market controlled, personal savings scheme. You have 9% to 12% of your wage garnished, and put into an account with a "superannuation fund", where it is invested in (presumably) low-risk managed funds. I think you're fundamentally zeroing out the outcome where "helping women" explicitly means "not helping men". I'm definitely coming at this from a different perspective; and I'm not going to rule out that unconscious bias. Because it's hard to predict all of the effects of large actions. ...ahhh, the good ol' Unintended Consequences. . You've made some solid points there, /u/Halafax. I'm not going to disagree with the numbers, /u/Halafax; but... but why does this initiative have to be gender based ...because in a lot of countries with poor education, and specific women-oppressing religious views there is actually a massive disparity between boys and girls. Massive. Do I think it's bullshit? Yes. We shouldn't have to make the programs gender based, but the data says we need to.

And I would agree if the US had unlimited funds. Without getting to a wider debate on taxing people with the most money (discussion for another day), spending a bit now (in conjunction with other countries) will save coin in the long term.
