I admit I was bad at taking criticism when I started working. I didn't reject it out right but it took a day to get over the fact that I was actually doing a bad job or that I had failed at something. It might be attributed to my boss saying, in writing, during my first formal evaluation that I don't say Thank You enough but since then I have had smarter people as managers and they give meaningful feedback which I can proudly say I can get right down to following.

I can't really speak for what it's like in the US or in Europe but what I can say about the women in my country, and for the men is that society expects them to act a certain way and they oblige.
