FYI: you can quote by using ">" <= this in front of your text. Well, we could start by reintroducing constitutionally-guaranteed rights such as the presumption of innocence until actually proven guilty of anything. Agreed. I believe you are referring to the "dear colleague" letter, which is a clear example of the "feminist" solution being carried too far. There needs to be a better way of educating society to have consensual relationships as well as a better way of dealing with accusations of th…

It is extremely disturbing that stepping to the table is viewed as surrendering. I think we need both sides to begin to acknowledge that the other faces issues as well. Moving away from the extreme points will then occur naturally. It always takes a few extraordinary people to make the first step; lead by example and educate by demonstration. Good night.

/mr could use a bit more of the other perspective, but the difference between us and rSRS is that we are willing to hear it whereas SRS takes steps to censor their discussions I have had some personal experiences with /srs and can confirm what you said. I voiced a slightly critical opinion (i.e. saying that a mod on /feminism banned a /srs commenter for foul language, not content (the opposite was implied by the redditor in question)) and was banned; having to sit through a barrage of (sexist) i…

Thank you. If I have learned anything from this post here today, it's that I feel like shedding my "feminism" label because it carries negative connotations and the movement has brought on negative things for men as a result. Feminism has also brought some positive things for both genders; do not forget that, and please, do not shed your feminism label and your beliefs associated with it. Stand by your opinions, but keep an open mind! Keep fighting false- and rape apologists. While a lot of rece…

Thank you for the letter. Not an MRA here, but I would still like to bring forth a few points. I fully agree with the fact that everyone has issues and need to be addressed and dealt with. But, lets stop measuring who is discriminated against more. Every type of discrimination is negative and its effects vary on an individual basis. What disturbs me the most is that on feminist spaces and SRS (as well as /mr) there is very little of the opposite stance (i.e. misandry/misogyny don't real, to quot…

When that isn't true. I could not agree more. The problem, however lies somewhere different, it is fundamenal societal stereotypes that cause this perception. For example: several of the reports on female-on-male violence primarily include the man not taken seriously or seen as the primary agressor, even if it is not the case. I am neither an MRA nor a feminist, but that is what I have personally gathered from reading the gender-rights-subs. It is that typical "my daugher is a little angel"/"wom…

Please... Man UP ALREADY and quit complaining. It's called priviledge. You have no right to complain as long as there are (flawed) statistics about a pay gap and the republicans are talking about abortion. /irony For the record, my parents are both doctors, my mom earns three times what my dad makes, since she works much more and has more 1%ers than my dad. Other than that, they have exactly the same qualifications (down to grades in high school). The reason for a "pay gap" here is simply hours …

Funny thing, in several European countries dentistry requires extra training (comparable with cardiologist/neurosurgeon) and is the best-payed type of doctor. Guess what the gender ratios are?

When I see MRAs successfully (perhaps even unsuccessfully) limiting abortion access, I will speak out against it. Yes. I think this problem could be solved by simply "educating" society towards having a better family life, therefore reducing divorces and maritial problems, so that situations like these wont even come up. In the cases that they do, the woman should be able to choose. However, there should also be some kind of oppertunity for the man to undertake an "abortion", unless we let biolo…

It seems as though you have no reason to apologize. You are not involved in it, and holding you responsible for what others do, simply because you bear some similarities is completely absurd. For example: as a young German I refuse to be held liable for what happened during WWII. I realize that it was horrible and should not happen again, but I refuse to "physically pay" or "make retributions" to show how sorry I am. First of all, I was not around back then, had no part in it and the size of my …

On a different note, Scientology is defined as a cult in Germany. They were (almost) always the clear, logical thinkers we know them as today.

The bigger shitstorm is probably going to come from the Jews. Still, human rights... Nice, someone finally read the (soon to be changed due to EU) German constitution. Someone should do the same for the US sometime :)

Statistics is not so hard... You need a brain and a data processing tool (most studies out there can be done with excel). Now just some data and youre good to go. (A statistics textbook may help though, just go to some university and look up the required texbooks).

And yet there are attempts to extradite him instead of simply doing an interview over the phone or having local police interview him, as historically has been standard procedure. If you look at my other post (that was made before your post), you will see that I critizise exactly this. There is political motivation behind this, not only the rape case, otherwise they would most likely have simply interviewed him in the UK. What is your point? It's even worse than that. Did I bitch about who is worse off? No. I stated that "Innocence until proven guilty." has kinda gone out the window, or else any she said-she said trials would never even make it to court. I was not referring to that when I said: Just bitching about who is worse off will not help anyone. As a matter of fact, I was referring to the fact that a lot of headline rape cases actually do turn out to be true (for example: Fritzl, Sandusky, The cop from NY, a london cab driver, etc.) among other things …

Yeah, it doesn't work out like that many times, and that needs fixing. However, that cannot be done at the expense of real victims of rape. Hence, feminist and mras need to acknowledge each others problems and work together to find a solution. Just bitching about who is worse off will not help anyone. Also, I suggest you try responding to the other parts of my post or at least acknowledge them, since that is not only a strawman argument but also denial, ignorance and just plain rude to victims o…

Quite frankly, those cases were limited in their size, and in the assange case it's innocent until proven guilty. The more disturbing thing (at least in my opinion) is that a lot of real rapes don't actually even make the front page anymore, silly because it does not involve famous individuals, who are more likely to get accused and where the media is more likely to report it. Rape of a normal person is no longer news worthy, because it happens so often (1 in 5 or 6 statistic). The the news repo…

If there is too little evidence then the default should be that no crime has occurred. Yes, that is called proof beyond reasonable doubt/due process. Unfortunately, it doesnt always apply, especially when there is emotion involved. Yes, I avoid commenting on guilty/not guilty as that is not of importance at the moment (as i said, the important issue right now is the warrant for "questioning"; which could technically speaking, also be done in the UK). tl;dr: agreeing with you here. Also, please a…

Can't comment on the Assange case; there is too little evidence (that I have read) in both directions, it is based on assumptions. There isnt even an arrest warrant out, the current warrant is for "questioning". So just because something is a media circus inherently implies that the opposite does not happen? Allow me to cite a variety of sources (from completely different aspects of society): Sandusky (even male rape involved here), perfect timing btw. Gulf of Tonkin Iraq Rape in the military/un…

I dont think the good ones "love them and support the ideas" it seems to be the case that MRAs are made extremely unattractive, mainly due to the said "bad feminists" being able to claim that MRAs are against ALL types of feminism, including the "egaliatrian version". Converse holds true as well. An analogy: There are two clubs. The Managment of 1 & 2 hates each other. You happen to like club 1 a lot. However, as you are currently in club 2 (with many friends). Club 1 does not dispel the idea th…

Very funny. Actually, you can use the same website (under the generalization section) to outline the logical fallacy you are commiting. I am saying that there are more moderate individuals who are labelled mras or feminists, while their views are mostly egalitarian. I like the website; thanks! Here are some links applicable to you. Enjoy :) http://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/black-or-white http://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/personal-incredulity http://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/composition-division

Again, you are generalizing a bit too much. Read my the comments of the /askfeminists post and you will find yourself agreeing with (at least in part) the majority of comments. The converse should hold true for faeminists and the majority of top-posts in mensrights. If we were to get rid of the gender stereotypes associated with each one, there would actually be a lot more constructive dialogue and less pointing fingers.

To sum up my argument, how often have MRAs had an argument with so-called "feminists" (or just non-mras) who actually engage in a proper discussion of topics, only to be shut down by "hes a woman-beating deadbeat" (or something similar) by an extreme feminist. Removing the effectiveness of that line is my point.

Unfortunately it isnt exatly well frequented compared to the others. I think this would increase if both sides opened up a bit to each other. Moreover, (correct me if im wrong), its not listed in either the feminism or mensrights sidebars... rendering it effectively useless (a lot of subscribers of the subreddits have probably not heard of it)

Also, promoting collective liability is utterly illegal (Nuernberg Trials) and has led to a variety of discrimination v.s. youger Germans (who were not even alive in WW2). If you read my post (and the /askfeminism link in the comments), you will see that (at least on reddit), the majority of "feminists" seem to focus on the same topics as MRAs and acknowledge their points. The converse is also true. However, this generalization does prevent the "moderate" sides engaging with each other, complete…

Absolutely correct, but why focus on these. The reason why I made these two posts (and am commenting them -besides politeness) is to try and get both sides to see what I think I am seeing and maybe approach the whole thing a bit more "rationally" (i.e. ignoring these "overgeneralized sound bites" in favor of the silent majority)
/r/MensRights19/06/12 04:50 PM

Could not agree more. I think that a large part of the "disregarding" is due to the generalization part. I hope that (at least on reddit) there is some clarification as (most) posts from /askfeminists and /mensrights are perfectly legitimate and definately deserve more attention and less ignorance (note how the respective groups tend not to deal with matters that predominately affect the other (even though they do affect both), simply due to this stigma. Example: Rape. MRAs focus on false rape a…

Agree. What I am trying to point out is that there are good "feminists" and "MRAs" to the other party. It seems as though the perception of "feminists" and "MRAs" as power-crazy false rape reporters or woman-beating deadbeats destroyes any possibility of communication between these technically egalitarianist individuals that do form a substantial portion of each movement.

um... I said I had originally asked the post to r/askfeminits... lets wait and see... I think they are better suited to answer the question. Context (askfeminist post). I like most answers. http://www.reddit.com/r/AskFeminists/comments/v88mt/after_reading_gender_related_subreddits_one_thing/

Egalitariansim is definately the right way to go, but since society is so divided due to historical stereotypes the majority associate with either feminism or mensrights, which prevents any real dialogue between the majority of both sides. I think this is best explained by this post from a fellow redditor: http://i.imgur.com/RxO2N.png . Is it now clear what I mean with generalizations?

Thanks for stopping by. That is what I am pointing out: Wouldnt you agree that it is exactly these stereotypes (mentioned earlier) that prevent communication between MRAs and Feminists, thus shrouding the perfectly legitimate criticisms, thereby allowing the entities I am referring to to "claim" the (supposedly vast) extent of their influence?

Sorry for the bad reference. I am dead serious as well, but do believe that the people over at /feminism or /askfeminists would be the best to ask in this case, hence I did so with that post. Sorry about the grammar, I am quite tired (11 hour time difference to the US)

The problem here would be definitions... they consider themselves feminists and call it what feminism should be. These are the "feminists" that I am referring to. Likewise, the same question: what does mensrights cover that egalitarian doesn't?

I Agree with all your points except that you seem to be generalizing. Im not even going to bother debating them, since they are blatantly obvious facts. There are organizations who try that and people out there who want to cut mens penises off. Hear me out: I agree there are several organizations out there that definately promote the wrong things. While they seem to be in the majority, that is simply because they scream and shout the loudest. The majority of (or maybe lets just agree on some) fe…

Did you read my quotes? The people are the movement. The movement is fragmented. Everyone can call themselves a feminist and/or mens rights activist. What you seem to be referring to are outliers. In fact, it seems that "feminists" have not enacted the majority of legislations v.s. men. It was society and norms that did so (see FBI definition of rape, which was certainly not the product of feminism, but the antiquated gender stereotypes) The recent upsurge of "the feminist movement" (i.e. women …

Pay discrimination: debatable. Studies show that IN GENERAL things are as you say. You are right about the making choices part. The same applies to why some people make over 200+k and others dont. However, the discrimination here is somewhat against an individual (what I have experienced personally): The "elite" females are sometimes thrown in with the bunch (gender stereotypes), which can drag down their pay/respect awarded to them by colleagues "she is a woman". Also, there are other studies w…
