Totally agree. It can be hard to crawl your way out of the hole of that thinking too, when it seems - on a whole- society views you that way. Working on self validation now and teaching my daughter the same. Somewhere along the line I thought I had to be validated by others to be worthy of comfortable living.. it’s fucking hard to unlearn it.

I bought a home last year- put over 8 offers on homes I saw. I eventually just put an offer site-unseen for a home in an area that was beautiful and has great schools. I can’t comment on trying to purchase an upscale house as a single person without a kid, but I can say that it was really emotional for me, too. Being a single mom to a 6 yr old and I look young, and trying to buy in a middle class area of a slightly conservative west coast area- every one of those homes accepted offers less than …

They want to remain in denial about porn. It’s crazy how many of us have been banned for being here but the vile shit we see on a daily basis stays up. I’m sure I would be applauded if I had an ‘off my chest’ moment about enjoying degrading sex and being slapped or some shit.

Totally! I just wanted to open a conversation- it’s ASKFEMINISTS lol- I want to know, from those that consider themselves feminists, what in here could possibly be against what they believe? It kinda shook me and I realized it’s because I wear the feminist badge with pride and saying I don’t belong somewhere was just off putting. Also, showed me my privilege in a way, having never been thru feeling unwelcome in a space- a learning experience, and it’s just a dumb subreddit.. my other FDS friend …

I got banned from the ask feminist sub for being a member here/ nowhere in their rules did it say anything about banning commenters for being a part of another community and it really took me by surprise that a feminist sub would ban a woman for partaking in another feminist sub.. ‘we don’t condone hate here’ or something that was expressed before the ban. Ummmm right.. I haven’t seen FDS condone hate, but I’ve absolutely seen sisters in solidarity here talk about how they hate being objectified…

Exactly! Real life heartbreak, sadness, fear, and so much trauma- I get to let whoever I want into my life and am the absolute gatekeeper of my time and my daughter’s. I am beyond grateful I get to share with her and show her through example that her boundaries are sacred and just because some dude smiles at her doesn’t mean anything. I wish I had learned some of that growing up, that I get to be particular and discerning on who comes into my life.

You wrote this beautifully! I can relate and I have had ppl tell me I am being hypocritical because I have depression and in recovery for alcoholism. I manage it, though- that’s the big difference. Once I got sober, got help, moved on in my life, I have accomplished SO MUCH. And along the way, I fell for a man in the rooms of recovery thinking he was like me, never going back to drinking/using one day at a time- nope. 10 years on queens and he’s in rehab again, bless him. And I’m divorced, own m…

Anyone else loving Shots Fired by Megan Thee Stallion? I just love that we get to have women’s voices, strong, proud, vulgar- fucking amazing- and especially after the personal violent DV relationship she was in. Demanded her power and refused to be put in whatever box society usually does. She just slammed it, imho.

Omg, same for me. I just went thru the list of my friends and you’re right.. I can’t think of one. Also, what’s said here about finding it hard to be around friends who still participate in the pickme dance, or don’t hold their men accountable in their life.. it gets really hard to keep those friendships close when I know there’s another way. Right now I’m in the FDS Newbie phase, have been for a year and reading about trauma bonding and ptsd in relationships after I successfully separated and d…

Thank you. I’m at a loss for words.. thank you. I just- there’s shame in continuing to love and long for that man, I feel like. At least- when I let it slip around my girlfriends that I miss him, the man I had in between the using, the man the would be clean for a year or so at a time. I miss the good times, and the fantasy and dreams we would build, and the family we began. Not the using, lying, gaslighting, zombie he becomes. I miss him. The real him. And maybe that’s ok. I’m not going back. I…

Thank you! Each time I think of texting a dumb meme or wanting to talk about how much of an ass my dad was today, or a cute thing our daughter did, I try to give myself three or four breaths. I have to remember that he’s no longer the man I thought- maybe never was. Each time I reach out, I open that wound again. I am practicing one day at a time. And continue to forgive myself too

Thank you; mourn the loss of the fantasy. God, that definitely lands.

Ok, I’m gonna need to do some research on this, it’s hitting home. I was with him for ten years, thru the loss of my mom.. then thinking he was going to OD every 6-12 months. When he was good he was amazing, but I hate not sustainable and I recognized myself in the handbook as the woman that fell for the potential and all the words and none of the actions ever matched up. Thank you- I think I’m ready for my next breakthrough and I will remind myself to go easy and loving

Omg thank you- I haven’t thought of it like that! I keep thinking something is wrong with me. I do all the things and hope to feel differently, and I can see some progress, like I’m not crying all the time and I see logically that that was an unhealthy relationship- I just thought the head and heart would get it together by now! Ugh- but one foot in front of the other is all I can do. I WILL NOT go back.

I love this. As a recovering pickme, so focused on their potential and killing myself by helping LVMs with their life and neglecting my own, this hits. I’m not ready to date yet, but when I do I’m not settling

Yes! First bf: ‘you know, I love how your vagina looks, but my friends and brothers would all think there’s too much hanging out’ ugh. I still think my vagina is ugly sometimes, and what was he trying to do? Get 18yo me to think 28yo him was just soooo benevolent to my ugly vag? GTFO, I have a beautiful full vagina and it took years to fall in love with it bc of that one douche comment.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
