They said defund. And the right never said "militarize the police". They said, "No, don't defund." They couldn't own property in many areas, and in others were entitled to no inheritance rights if there was a child (especially male) heir. Of the males I know (so, face to face classes, rather than this, which is online), almost none of my students are remotely self sufficient. The rare student who is, is generally male, sure, but student loans have created a generation of dependents. So, nah, they aren't being forced into the false dichotomy you describe. Males are significantly over-represented among those who simply stop attending and flunk. They don't bother withdrawing to protect their GPAs, either. I only grade typed essays in digital format; handwriting is something I very rarely see, and never on major graded assignments. His kids have always told the cops that his wife is the aggressor. But his kids are now grown. And I know he's well and truly fucked, because he won't leave her.
