The author could be referencing what her peers had done. ‘For’ often carries an implied ‘like others have’, but instead the emphasis is on ‘me’ instead of ‘for’. This is where a proper editor could have used italics. This is a weakness in English, where it doesn’t have the ability outside of modifying the way letters are written to emphasize one meaning over another.
