I am actually ok with some people having interest in their partner's sexual history, and some people being interested in their career/ambitions. It is also ok not to be. Like, I am super active and driven, and prefer high energy partners. Not because they are better humans, but because this way we will be less likely to get on each other nerves. Know what you want, mate. But I see absolutely no needs in shaming others for any of those points. Matching as people is hard!

I mean, if I am really into potentially boring shit I think it is nice to give a fair warning. There is a limit of sociobabble that a non interested human can stand. Good luck to Jess and her banker if that's what she wants though! I do feel that it is better to be "alone" than with a bad match :) Why to go through the hassle? Like, I even support some aspects of MGTOW. Our value does not depend by wherever we are succesful romantically, and if you hate the game, you should not be forced to play…

I am kinda kinky. Told the dude and he started yelling I must be sick in the head and that those things were absolutely disgusting. I wanna clarify that I just talked about my taste that, to be honest, ain't even that weird (I like gentlish femdom stuff, shibari and ghostwrite smut when I feel like it).I didn't try in any way to force him in any kind of play. I am seriously okay with people not being into kinks and I do like my vanilla fun. He was also pro domming other dudes for cash, so I felt…

I mean, I am on a lot of subs meant exactly to challange my views. I do find gender/dating/society particularly interesting as topic, and I am fascinated by how people make sense of life and perceive reality in such a different way. I don't want to invalidate anybody's feeling, I just want to understand.

Ooh, that is a fun thing to reflect on. What am I looking for in a perspective partner? High energy levels! This is important. I am super energetic most of the time, and can definitely get on the nerves of those who do not appreciate it. I mean, I do love quiet people too, but it is better if they don't want to strangle me when I get all chatty at 6 am. Curious and adventurous! I love to learn new things and have a fuckton of hobbies, so I would love to meet somebody willing to share them. If th…

1) What would you do with the people unable to work, due to things such as disability and other personal issues? Throw them in the river? Equal opportunities are only reached when everybody can access said opportunities, things that is just not possible without universal welfare, imho. Can you really say that somebody that had to juggle four jobs through high school to afford basic necessities has the same chances to graduate with high grades with somebody whose only prerogative was to study? Al…

Uh. Talking about being detached from reality. But after all, it's always a matter of perception, isn't it? It is not the family or the relationships that are sick, but rather the requests of an economic system that values individuals based on their economic contribution. I live in Denmark and things are very different from the US – or my home country, for that matter. Gender equality (and actually equality in general) is a staple of Danish culture. A lot of attention is given to the work-life b…

Oh man. That was a lot. Uh. Whatever I say won't take, but I obviously disagree. That said I am mostly curious why you think that gender theory has anything to do with Communism. Like...what? It is not a political system. Just a tool of analysis. Also what can be defined as resource really chaged during the ages. So why your reasoning might have some kind of sundation if we go back to hunter gathering societies, nowadays work has a very different nature. No need to fight mammoths in the corporat…

That is what people do with the theory though, not the theory itself. As I mentioned a lot of people do a "selective reading" of the material ad only pick parts that are instrumental to cerrtain agendas. The issue is much more complex, and while it has to do with gender it also include a lot of other aspects. Race is one aspect, but there is many others. There is no easy solution, but reflecting on this topic is nit negative though. It really helped society progress. The Second Sex (one of the f…

It is a toolnof analysis of societal issues. It question why we got here - but the popularized version can be istrumentalized and used as a scapegoat, convenientely removing certain issues from the equation - like the problems created by our current economic systems, global inequality, and other "unsavoury" not marketable aspects The theory is just a tool to analyse issues and try to propose solutions. It is not a dogma and was never supposed to be.

Gender theory also tackle that! But it really goes beyond gender. It is part of a school of tought that explore power in many different ways! Gender is part of it - but so is class, race and many other aspects of human life. It is super interesting! I am not necessarely a Focauldian, but I really reccomend engaging with Discipline and Punish to enrich the dialogue. (Philosophize this is a great podcast and a great starting point to go into the topic if you never engaged with philosophy&social th…

Actually not really. Wealthy countries were life is easier tend to make less children. For the fact that we are all miserable, the truth is that having a stable life is a bit harder to nowadays (compared to like 20 years ago in the same western setting) and even for the ones who manage it is impossible to escape hustling culture. Productivity comes at the cost of our social wellbeing and it is not really a surprise. The gender divide is not as impactful as the rest.

I mean, the whole point is not forcing people into things. It does not say that there is something wrong with femininity - quite the opposite. It just address how having a certain type of genitalia should not act as an automatic disqualifier. For example there are men who enjoys nurturing children and women who do not. The opposite is also true. The whole point is letting people decide and follow their own drive, without pushing them in a box or the other. Also Denmark is one of the most gender …

It is important to remember that muvhbof this theory work on a societal basis, not individual. Gender theory looks at how gender shape and is shaped by society. Women also learn the same things and, like men, learn to despise femininity while being encouraged towards that path. If you look at the "I am not like other girls" phenomenon you will see that it is super common for girls to go through a phase in which they try to dissociate from their whole gender, before realizing that what they like …

He explained how they are socialized differentely, actually. It is a way of looking at how society is built and why. Also, nobody ever denied basic biological differences. Gender theory examines the complex constructs stemming from those differences. The whole argument is that they are not such a big deal - or an accurate metre to decide, as a society, what an individual should or should not do :)

I think one on that line (without the pregnancy part but close enough exists). I think it's called "I am not an easy man". I have it on Netflix, but I am EU so it might be different.

Women are still considered a sexual object in society at large -including its female memeber. It is the internalized male gaze, the necessity to put yourself in a position of being looked at, instead of looking. Same with lingerie and whatnot. For males dressing more provocatively means accepting to be put in a looked at position (and hence "gay"). I am not complaining about the sexualizing of bodies - attraction is part of society - but rather whereas it is deemed acceptable. In a more equalize…

Yes, but the important part is exactly how is status calculated - that is what I mean by asking for the definition. And you are right, it is an agglomerate. But your example convo does not reflect that. Think - what gives prestige to a profession? Of course it is not only what you do. The lawyer is considered inherentely high status because he is assumed to come with a "package" of qualities: he is likely to be cultured, educated and desicated (long education!), have a stable economy (the job pa…

But what are you missing is that status (in a certain branch of sociology is called habitus) within a specific social field is given by a combination of factors. Each field had its own "currency" and people have different types of capitals that can be exchanged (usually referred as social, economic and cultural capital. Some studies also refer to sexual/erotic capital or health capital). You are applying a very general idea of "the west" as a social field and it does not really help your point. …

Dude this very hypothetical convo is so biased. The pals in your scenario are not comparing one (1) highlight to a... it is not even minuses, but rather normal facts on another person. Like, if "has a college degree, live with his parents and is good at video games" are the only things Girl 5 can name, she really does not like her partner. " "He has a degree in like, ancient theology and he is really passionate about it" would be a more realistic way to go about it. Passion is a massive plus Eve…

Not that many. I guess I was cuter as a child? I still get approached, but people keeps their hand to themself most of the time. I did have issues with my boss at work, but that is another can of worms.

Oh, just commented about my experience . I am Italian as well. And yup, it still feels to me that we still accept catcalling as a cultural quirk. When my bestfriend moved with me abroad, she was stunned by the lack of men yelling at her in the streets. She felt invisible, she told me. Took her a while to get used to politeness.

It was a fucking nightmare that started when I was 14 and went on until my early 20s. It probably would have stopped earlier, but I did look young. It was a daily issue on the public means, that culminated with a dude ripping my skirt off on a bus, in the middle of the day. Nobody around me moved a finger and I had to litterally jump over the seat he trapped me in and run to the driver to get something like help. When I told my mum, she said it was normal and that it just happened, some days. No…

To be honest, I always split (or buy the next round), especially on first dates. I feel like evening out the losses (in matter of money and time) is the basis to start on an equal ground. And so does the overwhelming majority of my friends. I gotta say that it is not always appreciated. I had a couple of dates being super pissed when discovering that I got to the bill before them or actually fighting me on the matter. Yes, I do lowkey count it as a red flag.

It is not, per se. The PUA vibe usually comes up when your date/random interested dude check all the boxes.

I guess that maybe some are not as subtle as they would like to be? Like, I guess it comes with practice.

Yup, the diamond analogy is pretty accurate: humans making a huge ruckus for what is, ultimately, just a shiny rock. Exactly like how we are just making a huge ruckus about what, in the end, is just another dick (in the wall -- sorry, could not resist). Ultimately, n counts and shiny rocks only matters to the ones who gives them value. ((I know that diamonds also have other applications beyond the aesthetic value, but OP did imply that their value was pourpousfully kept high)).

Okay. Once again. Social.media behavior (in general, Tinder in paticular) is not a faithful, universal, translation of IRL behaviour. Really, such analysis could work only if the whole world was registered and used socials in the same way. And, surprise surprise, neither assumptions are even close to the truth. Some people avoid them like the plague, some others swing the lurker way, others rely only on specific functions. Like the handy location based event function on Facebook. Or Candy Crush.…
