I recommend you build up gradually. DM is like going for sex without kissing her first. Like a few of her pics, maybe leave a comment (be reserved), try to get a mini-conversation going in the comments, then go for the DM. That's what Christian Grey recommends in Instagram Seduction and it works well.

You can get tons of people you don't actual know to follow you. Pretty much if you aren't a fat slob that does nothing but sit on the couch eating doritos all day, you should be able to come up with some interesting content. Once you have some content, you can use hashtags and bots and shoutouts and a variety of other stuff to get followers. The Christian Grey method is great for this part. I was getting 100 new followers a day for a while.

Yeah it def takes some work to get a following, but once you do it's much easier than Tinder in my experience. And yeah you definitely can't just DM out of the blue.

Yeah probably a good disclaimer. I found it to be extremely liberating. I'm happier and more successful with women for having learned it. Pretty much everywhere is rough. Especially if you're in the US where 70% of women are fat. If you're looking for women your own age the odds are more in your favor, since all the other single guys are chasing college girls. But I daresay if you're looking for a decent woman in her 30s who both doesn't have kids and isn't religious, you're looking for a unicorn.

IMO start doing approaches anyway. Go in with the goal of facing your fears and talking to women. Don't worry about results for now, just face your fears and do it. Try calling. Have a ten minute conversation so she gets to know you a bit. Girls are scared because they've all heard horror stories about stalkers and craigslist killers and such. Instagram game is a broad subject. I'm a big fan of Christian Grey's method. Which is basically to build a kickass Instagram profile that's attractive to girls, get a lot of social proof from girls following you and liking/commenting on your stuff, then making contact with girls you like as minimally as possible, usually just by liking one of their pictures. There's a lot too it, but that's the basic gist.

Find some sort of higher principal that motivates you. The Red Pill stuff is great for that in my opinion. Not the whiny complainy reddit red pill stuff, but blogs like Chateau Heartiste and Return of Kings and those. Very cool because they are about both pickup and making a better world at the same time.

I got my most recent long term girlfriend from Tinder. Truth is that's what most of the girls on there are looking for. Girls are almost never actually looking for hookups. They do it sometimes if the feeling is right, but even on Tinder they're rarely ever looking for it. That said, I agree with Blue Shark that Tinder is an uphill battle because there are so many more guys than girls. I like Instagram better because most people aren't using it for dating.

Daygame is much better for making you stand out, since few guys have the balls to do it. Online dating is a lot easier, but it also means that all the girls there are getting flooded with messages. Unless you find some sort of clever hack. The learning curve is pretty steep with daygame but if you're willing to put in some time I definitely recommend it.
