This wasn't him "catching them in bed". The guy drove hours with weapons and ammonia after blackmailing her and tried to murder her and the boy. She deserved to be locked up, not murdered. And this guy's an insane person and deserves to be locked up forever.

In my mind, it's no different than being against drug or gun regulations. Banning stuff doesn't make it go away, it forces it into a black market where it's unsafe, unregulated, and creates criminal enterprises. So yeah, it's a perfectly consistent opinion to believe that abortion should be legal, and to not believe that getting an abortion is a good thing.

If I'm with people, I don't look at my phone. It's rude. More rude than not responding to someone for an hour. It's not about busy, it's that I don't agree with surgical attachment to your phone, and if I'm at dinner with a friend, I give them my full attention

To me, the negligence of not calling the police or really anyone when he was actually killing himself, is enough to justify the sentence. The texts are just fire on the fuel to show her lack of compassion. She also lied repeatedly after the fact acting like she didn't know he was going to do it, pointing to more than her just being sick of hearing him talk about it.

Sounds like we're talking about different things. I go to a place with "oil change" explicitly in the name. It's a basic 20-point check, and they don't have a full garage.

I don't have a single car garage. I park in a slot outside my apartment. "I don't want to" is a legitimate reason...the price difference is or $10 or $15, it's on the way to work, and I don't have to do it.

I don't go from mechanic to mechanic. I have a real mechanic I go to every 1-1.5 years depending, and I get my tires rotated regularly somewhere. And yeah, it's totally an excuse. I live in a city, I don't have a lot of space, I don't want to change my oil. I don't understand why I'm having to justify that, it's a perfectly reasonable thing that plenty of people do. For the record, I also change out my own lights, and maintain good tire pressure. I just don't see the point in changing my oil whe…

Because oil is crazy messy and I live in an apartment building, and I can usually find a coupon for a cheap oil change (and they also inspect my car so I can figure out what needs to be changed). It's a bait and switch, repairs at an oil change place are usually going to be inflated to compensate for the loss leader (changing your oil with a coupon). Does that make me a jerk? Idk, but I don't see it as any different than going to a store and only buying the one thing I want that's on sale.

What's wrong with that? If they tell me my air filter needs changing, I'm just gonna go home and do it myself.

First let me just say this issue is incredibly nuanced and complicated, and I'm still working to form an opinion around it. It's possibly challenging other beliefs I have. BUT you cannot make the leap from "able" to "encouraged". Legal precedent can be established that does not always result in the "moral" outcome, but still must be that way for the sake of "justice". In my mind, I'm drawing the distinction based along the notion of personal choice. So I'm able to smoke cigarettes, but the gover…

That's an interesting story, but do you not think that there was ANYTHING you could have done to have prevented whatever led to his lapse in judgment? I mean, I'd understand if your son was a secret sociopath, but you say that he's reformed which tells me it's either not engrained into his genetic makeup, or you're wrong. In other words, do you believe that the only way for him to learn what he knows now is by making that mistake?

Agreed.

Interesting. I definitely do. I pee at work a lot, I pee in larger venues or events, or at bars or restaurants. And at a pretty good chunk of those, between the people who are already in there when I enter, and the people coming in while I'm washing my hands, I probably encounter a handful or two of people. Still seems like an interesting point to dig in on when you're advocating for just being respectful to trans people. Side note: if we're being intellectually honest, your woman molester thing…

Yeah, so on the whole over the course of your life, assuming the population of trans people remains constant, most people will experience roughly as many trans people in the same bathroom as them as 1/300 of the people that they encountered in bathrooms.

I agree with you on the whole "people need to chill out and stop getting so worked up about stuff" thing. But your numbers mean that the last 320 people you've encountered in a public restroom were trans. If you pee in public once a day, and there's only one other person in the bathroom, you're encountering more than one trans person per year. And I'd argue that actually reinforces how a little of a deal trans people in bathrooms is. It's happening all over the place, it's just that no one notic…

There's a huge difference between pretending there are no problems (something I explicitly explained I was not doing), and acting as if a few random acts of violence is justification for deporting thousands of people. It's as daft as the TSA measures we endure because of a handful of terror attacks, or acting like 4 illegal Mexican immigrants committing murder is grounds for deporting millions. You're dealing in the wrong orders of magnitude.

This sub got co-opted by exiles (one might say refugees) from /r/altright. The irony escapes them.

You people are morons. Even Breitbart doesn't mention refugees in these two articles: http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/02/27/one-injured-malmo-grenade-attack/ http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/02/23/swedish-police-discover-live-hand-grenade-malmo/ I couldn't be bothered to check more than the most recent seven attacks in that Wikipedia list, but none of them mention refugees. Then there's this article, which mentions that draws a parallel between a refugee population in Malmo and an influ…
