the use of the term suffragette. That term is exclusively for the militant WSPU, not for the general suffrage movement. Individuals are being described as suffragettes when they weren't. Many suffragists when to extreme lengths to dissociate with the suffragettes,

The suffragettes were a small minority group made up of members of the WSPU who weren't for Universal Suffrafge. The term was coined in 1906 by the daily mail. Carrie Catt was a suffragist as was Alice Blackwell. The NUWSS was a far larger organisation and were vehemently non-violent sand FOR universal suffrage. This infographic needs changed and updated. The vast majority of suffrage campaigner were/are known as suffragists. Suffragettes were militants who planted bombs etc.... Aug 27th August …
