I have the time with kids blocked in on the calendar. It's persistently scheduled. As the kids get a little older they can help with DIY. Maybe you can find something for them to paint on the side as you work. I recall having the four year old help me with painting and other tasks.

Easiest way to do it is get a room with a good sunrise view, and get rid of the curtains. I find that my work productivity and quality is vastly better early in the morning, after exercise, than late at night when I am spent. The block of time between 4 and 6 is the most valuable time in the day.

I have three gratitude sections. The first part is a list of friends and enemies that touched me in the past day. Important to list the enemies. Second is a list of basic things such as the fact that everybody under my purview is healthy, the roof is not leaking, the money is rolling in, I have clients. Also the various cool stuff saw, ate or experienced that day. Third part is to reframe some lemony thing from the past day as lemonade. It's almost always possible if you think hard enough.

Just for clarification. A Japanese "Christmas cake" is not a well-preserved fruitcake like you might have in the West. It's essentially a strawberry shortcake covered with whipped cream.
