Dude, two weeks on two weeks off is a hella long time... I have 5522 and by the end of my 5 days, I am beat... It takes a lot to do it alone, some things don't get done. Sometimes it's not clean, sometimes we eat take out, but everyday I am there, present and try to have fun with them. If your doing that, that's what will matter.

Based on my experience, you'll find some who care and others who understand. Just be honest and up front with what you're looking for, and filter out those who will not be okay with it. It may also depend on the age range your looking in. I am 40ish, so a lot of people have kids by that age, so a lot of them understand the situation. If you make an effort when you don't have your kids that will go a long way towards them not getting discouraged when you do. Also in my experience, the 2nd comment…

Because the alimony you give counts as income for her. Which means usually her income goes down enough to increase your child support. At least that's the case for me.

Alimony likely won't be lifetime, however she will be owed 50% of the value of your pension during the time you were married, it's an asset more than it is alimony. It's treated like a 401k. So she could get even more than that, permanently. They will take the value of your pension at time of marriage, minus the value of your pension at date of separation, and she will get half of that value in some form or another. If you have other assets, cash, retirement, house value, then you may be able to…

Honest question here, any chance you could take some leave off work? I can't imagine what you're going thru, but maybe that would give you more time to care for all that is happening around you. I feel for you and I hope you are taking some time to grief and help yourself as well.

Unless the kids are over 12, it's not up to them. My kids always ask to stay with my ex when they are with her and ask to stay with me when they are with me.

I am sure I'll get plenty of down votes but she doesn't have to give you the kids past your time. My ex always asks to keep the kids 30 mins, 2 hours, etc. I always say no, it's not because I hate her, kids because we all agreed to these times and percentages.

This is the best answer, as your age goes up, finding a woman without kids who is attractive and not in a relationship, your pool of women just isn't that large... I don't think dating is broken per say, it's just a numbers game in the end.

A prenup just defines the rules if you happen to separate. If you can't define the rules ahead of time, don't play the game. Id just be real and honest with her.

You need to completely separate finances and give her a check for any money you are willing to give her. Anything in both your names will be split 50/50. You'll want to be able to prove you have been helping though. As always, talk to a lawyer asap for better advice

I mean, that could happen, but by law, she is entitled to half the money, so if you cash it out, just be prepared that you may have to give her half at some point

Just be prepared that half that money is hers, so if you spend it all, you will likely owe half back at the end. I moved all my money out into a separate account as well to avoid her spending it all.

Your post is heartbreaking, but this is the path forward. Always be there for them. Show them a happy life. Just because the family is not all together does not mean it's not a family. They still have a father who loves them. Hopefully you got 50/50 custody.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
