Misandristic posters in collegeHave you considered talking to the group who is putting these posters up? Without knowing more context it's hard to know whether they might be open to distributing a more diverse set of posters, but I'd say there's a reasonable chance it's an oversight. Though people may be more familiar with the issue of violence against women, that doesn't always mean they're opposed to highlighting cases of violence against men. If it's meant to be a general campaign against domestic violence, your input migh… | /r/MensRights | 27/12/13 08:55 PM
For every 100 girlsIn the end, what matters is addressing all the problems not who's more (or less) victimized. I absolutely agree. As much as statistics are important to figuring out what's actually going on, I do find that it is often too easy to fall into the habit of throwing numbers at each other to try to justify a particular "side". | /r/MensRights | 19/06/12 02:16 PM
| -1 | For every 100 girlsIt is important to note, though, that the first figure is based on reported rapes, and that rape is dramatically underreported. The same article goes on to estimate that 15%- 20% of women in the US are raped at some point in their lives. It wasn't clear to me how the figure about prison rape was estimated, though it did go on to say about 22% of male inmates are raped at some point. So it sounds like it is a very significant issue, and that in itself needs more attention, but rape probably is st… | /r/MensRights | 19/06/12 12:34 PM |
Ryan Gosling saves feminist from being run over. Feminist is indignant.I don't really think this is a new thing. I'm a university student, and most people I know either split the bill or take turns paying when they go out. I know a small handful of girls who like the idea of the guy paying for the first few dates, but they acknowledge that their perspective is old fashioned and illogical. | /r/MensRights | 06/04/12 01:27 PM
I'n writing a men's rights FAQ / introduction. Here is what I have so far.I mean you can pull up any "feminist" organization and its going to talk about all the things its doing for women. I would say that we are ok that women have this advocacy. In fact, we would say its important for their voices to be heard. But on the other hand, equality will never be achieved as long as we only hear the voice of one gender. Hence we're part of the advocacy for men. That way both genders can have a voice at the table. I think this is exactly what the focus should be. Makes a lot … | /r/MensRights | 26/02/12 07:24 PM
She honestly believes this crap...sorry for all the text and if you have to follow the parent chain...Wow. That was a little more heated that an argument about sexualization in comic books needed to be. :P Still, I don't think the complaint is 100% invalid. I would say that both men and women are sexualized in comic books, but women are more often sexualized to the point where it becomes hard to suspend your disbelief that what they're wearing could actually be practical in a fight. Like, wearing spandex makes a lot of sense if you're Spiderman and you're climbing all over the place. Wearing wha… | /r/MensRights | 26/02/12 05:12 PM
DAE believe that a false accusation of rape leading to incarceration is potentially as devastating as an actual rape?If anyone is interested, I posted this question on R/AskFeminists to see what they had to say. | /r/MensRights | 26/02/12 12:03 AM
DAE believe that a false accusation of rape leading to incarceration is potentially as devastating as an actual rape?I think people on a feminist subreddit would likely agree that being incarcerated based on a false accusation of rape could be as devastating as rape (especially since being incarcerated could involve getting raped), but I think they would want to focus on how skepticism about rape claims is harmful for actual victims of rape who feel that they cannot come forward because no one will believe them. Feminists would probably also argue that false rape accusations are not actually a major issue, as … | /r/MensRights | 25/02/12 03:54 PM
This made me more angry than it should have. Why? Because people actually believe this.I think that when comments like this represent widely held views in society, it can be worth unpacking them. Then again, there's a pretty fine line between looking at a comment as an example of a widely held view, and just bashing some random idiot. | /r/MensRights | 23/02/12 02:25 PM
the worst type of 'feminist' [x-post from advice animals]I wouldn't dismiss that argument so quickly... I mean, MRAs often complain that it isn't (as) socially acceptable for men to take a major role in raising their children, and that there aren't enough provisions for paternity leaves. This is just the flip side of that argument- because men don't have the option, women more often get stuck taking time off work to take care of their kids. | /r/MensRights | 22/02/12 12:29 AM
Men avoid mentoring female colleagues, fearing rumours of inappropriate relationshipsSorry, I realize now that the wording I chose wasn't the best. It implies that men are always tempted to sexually harass women, but might be able to control themselves. I really just meant to say that men don't always think with their penises, and we shouldn't assume that they do, or even that they are always tempted to. Edit: Grammar. | /r/MensRights | 21/02/12 08:50 PM
Men avoid mentoring female colleagues, fearing rumours of inappropriate relationshipsDo you mind linking the thread? Sounds like a misuse of the term "patriarchal", but I can see how women would be offended that they aren't considered as responsible as men (in terms of their ability to consent). Obviously in this case the consequences of the inequality are more tangible and severe for men, but still, it's another case where the inequality is problematic from both sides. | /r/MensRights | 21/02/12 07:53 PM
Men avoid mentoring female colleagues, fearing rumours of inappropriate relationshipsYeah. Apparently it used to be a bit better, but as it has grown in size the level of dialogue has gone down. That was the main reason r/femmit was created. | /r/MensRights | 21/02/12 07:40 PM
Men avoid mentoring female colleagues, fearing rumours of inappropriate relationshipsMy point wasn't that this is new or surprising, but more that it seems to be unusual for people to consider both sides at the same time. Usually you'll hear feminists complaining about negative views of women, and MRAs talking about negative views of men, but it is less common to look at both sides and see how they affect each other. | /r/MensRights | 21/02/12 07:37 PM
Men avoid mentoring female colleagues, fearing rumours of inappropriate relationshipsI absolutely agree. I spend time on r/MensRights as well as r/Femmit, and its pretty surprising how often both sides are complaining about the same problems. | /r/MensRights | 21/02/12 05:58 PM

Men are such PIGSI don't think this is 100% true. While impressing others (whether male or female) is definitely a huge part of dressing up, choosing clothes that make me feel confident is hugely important to me. I have some clothes that I often get complimented on, and I have some clothes that I personally feel attractive in (but do not get complimented on), and I will more often choose the latter outfits. That being said, putting a photo of your ass on facebook is not something you do for yourself. | /r/MensRights | 21/02/12 03:13 PM

Even though women want gender equality, Chivalry and White Knighting is still encouragedI wasn't referring to education in terms of university degrees (though I'd be curious to know where you got that 50% statistic from), but more in terms of education on men's rights/true equality, which is pretty much completely lacking from higher education. | /r/MensRights | 13/01/12 11:10 PM
Even though women want gender equality, Chivalry and White Knighting is still encouragedIt's really hard to say what percentage of women (or men) think a certain way. In my experience, though, most women who seem to want to take advantage of their female privileges will realize what's wrong with their point of view pretty quickly when someone points it out to them. As far as I can tell, the problem is much more with women not even realizing that there are inequalities that disadvantage men than with women specifically trying to enforce these inequalities. Of course, there's still a… | /r/MensRights | 13/01/12 07:39 PM
Even though women want gender equality, Chivalry and White Knighting is still encouragedSorry, I was only giving examples of chivalry because that's what this thread happens to be about. I agree that gender should have nothing to do with how harshly someone is sentenced, whether you're expected to go to war, and so on. I agree that MensRights is playing a really important role in making people aware of issues where men are suffering while women are advantaged. Personally, I've always ideologically wanted real equality, but I wasn't aware of some of the issues that are getting in th… | /r/MensRights | 13/01/12 03:04 PM
Even though women want gender equality, Chivalry and White Knighting is still encouragedThis generalization frustrates me, because as a woman, I really do want equality, and I understand that equality is built on both rights and responsibilities; that equality means that I don't get silly special treatment for being female. It means that half the time when I go out with my boyfriend, I pay the bill. It means that whoever gets to a door first should hold it for the next person coming through, regardless of gender. It means that I carry my own groceries, luggage, etc. And, it means t… | /r/MensRights | 13/01/12 02:27 PM
I am fucking tired of being perceived as a pervert for being attracted to women and their bodiesQuickly checking someone out is totally normal and is something women do too. I don't think most women would consider you a pervert for doing so, however, there are other, less respectful behaviours (e.g. groping a woman on a crowded train, taking a photo of a woman with a cameraphone, catcalls), that happen in a similar public context that I think make a lot of women uncomfortable. I think sometimes, after women experience genuine harrassment, they become more wary of all remotely sexual reacti… | /r/MensRights | 21/08/11 02:05 PM
