Egalitarian. I like it. Then again, the concept of things being "equal" could also have negative connotations. For example: giving women an advantage in a career field that is dominated by men to keep the male-female ratio closer to 1. This is frequently the case in my current field, and I hate it. I've worked hard to get where I am, and I resent when it's insinuated that I was given a job or an advantage solely for the cause of gender equality. I suppose the best/ideal thing would be for people…

I agree with this comment. Unfortunately, of the times I've commented in Men's Rights with a dissenting viewpoint, it's at times been assumed that I'm of the "2nd wave." In reality, I just want people to avoid trying to make a very complex issue black and white, and as such make comments trying to get people with an extreme viewpoint to consider a more middle ground. I consider myself feminist, but that's really because I don't want to be treated like a child just because I'm female. If I find m…

we ended up having another child, the last of which was conceived when she would not "get off of me" at the time of climax Just wanted to point out for future reference that even had she allowed you to pull out, you still could have conceived from this kind of behavior. Best advice I can give, other than documenting everything regarding your interaction with this woman is to choose a better method of birth control next time you want to have sex and don't want a kid out of it. Also, as someone wh…

I agree that he isn't wrong or bad. As a matter of fact, I don't see anywhere where I said he was wrong or bad. I think you're confusing my comments with the text of the original comment. I'm simply pointing out that there are many different definitions of what a teen's "needs" are, despite how much some people desire to simplify it down to food and clothes. It would really be in the best interest of all involved to take this to a court and let them determine the proper amount, though I realize …

You're entirely missing the point here. I'm not saying "your" way is wrong....but "my" way isn't wrong either. I'm saying yours is only one of many ways to raise a kid and that many parents are highly against the "sink or swim" approach for their own kids. I'm also saying costs can add up quickly and that there plenty of logical reasons why those costs may add up. Just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for this woman (who, it has turned out, doesn't have the best of reasons for all …

If the kid does not have a job that more than pays for the car insurance they don't need a car, imo. I disagree. First jobs don't really pay a lot, and young drivers are expensive to insure. Having a job teaches a teen responsibility first and foremost. My parents helped me out a little with my car insurance, and as such I was able to both hold a job my senior year of high school as well as complete 12 credits worth of college. I wouldn't have made it to class on time if I walked or took public …

Not trying to gang up on you, but couldn't he be asked to pay for his own entertainment-related stuff? I think it's reasonable to try to help him out with stuff related to his education and enrichment, but it may be a great object lesson to get him to manage his own money for the stuff he "just wants." I absolutely think you should expect financial help from the other parent for the things he needs and the things that help him to become a better person or that ease the transition to adulthood (e…

Hmm. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm a bit skeptical. I haven't had to pay for a teenager yet, but I spend $500 a month on childcare alone, and even that's a really good rate. I would imagine the costs of raising a teenager add up similarly quickly. Also, I'm a big proponent of teaching kids some responsibility and to manage their own finances, but I do think the kind thing for a parent to do is to help out a little with car insurance, a small college fund, etc. Obviously this gets complica…
