This would be where I would insert the conversation about the 'challenge' we humans have to logically base decisions on delayed gratification. It's an inherent bias even when we know we get more (candy bars is the study i recall) if we just sit on our hands. Studies are out there if you care to look. But the waiting game goes against our desire to act in the now, i'm thinking it's that whole dopamine feedback loop nemesis at work.

In the US, hamster pets would have running wheels in their cages, and were known to run themselves to death in this wheel. ergo, so much wasted energy with no real outcome. No matter how much the hamster ran, it never went anywhere.

I've experienced the same thing. There is so much that goes on sub cognitive. It makes me want to not make fun of the hippies. There is so much 'fluffy' science that hasn't been explained that they got right back in the day about energy and shit like that

This. It's an autonomic cognitive function on their part. It's the algorithm in their brain, not the user interface. Most of it is subconscious. It feeds into that whole stereotype about them not knowing why they feel the way they do. Their body is designed to propagate, the brain came later. Same for men, just different evolutionary tools.

The one I usually fail in mannerisms is talking too fast. But it's something that I find translates not just for women but also in a work place setting. I find ways to use it to my advantage with women typically. As with all things, pick your battles and play to your strengths. Talking fast for me is more-so frustrating for me in work settings than in social life. It's a part of who I am since a child though, and not indicative necessarily of confidence, but you can't fight evolutionary cues in …

sometimes it's more important to be doing something than it is to be doing something better 'edit'; i'm not saying that it's better to work minimum wage than it is to make a salary, but i am advocating that when essentials are met sometimes just doing something, even if it's not optimal, is the most important thing you can do. it's the journey, not the destination.

Sometimes that first success needs faith to get started. I think of faith as the conscious act of deciding to look for the best possible narrative of events in relationship to myself, and using that to find my path. Faith is also important in.my experience as you get older and life milestone successes get spread farther apart and require more null space as you do the one foot in front of the other bit to get what your aiming at

If you're hoping others will complete you then you're destined for disappointment. I say this from my current personal perspective. Also, #1, all you can do is be you. Your actions will be what define you. always.

nah, you have to think strategically. Frats can be a great asset once you're in the workplace. I thought like you when i went through school the first time, but older me realizes how advantageous it wouldhave been to have the tool/support or whatever you want to call it if I could have swallowed my pride and used it for what it is. If you can stomach being in a frat, and like some of the people in it, I say do it and reap the benefits.

I would argue that with regards to : "If you’re identifying with your external image, you’re not identifying with your internal self, and vice-versa." I think that your internal self is always represented by your external image to some degree or another. Think of sombody you had no reason not to like, but just couldn't get around that. The ideal IMO is that they are in line with each other(internal/external) when your purpose and your energy are aligned. That when shit like integrity and charism…

That being said.... I have some seriously ongoing shoulder and neck injuries. This is where I started, needed something to distract from the fisting I was getting from the electrical engineering Dept. I was 32 when I started yoga. The way I would describe it is stretchy-funtime, with some cardio and some strength depending on how hard you go at it, with the young female form as just sort of a cherry on top. I would do it now even if it were only men. The balance and strength and meditative/bvreathing qualities are awesome IMO. been doing it for 3-4 years now on and off.

This is still on my list. No kids, got my engineering degree, and miss being out to see but after doing Submarines and now having a degree I would find it pretty hard to start at the bottom even with 10 years between me and the Navy. How do you set up this dialogue in the pre-date, or do you just spring it on her when you're like.. "where do you want to eat?" she picks somethign pricey and doesn't bail when you mention that, " oh.... by the way". This hits home but I got a wierd energy shift the other night when I took a gilr out who was really into me and I was like, " I got this. I see it more as being accountable for your own actions. You help make a mess and cleaning it up doesn't make the thing worse, then you do it. It's how I try to do life in general, but i tend to like the notion of Karma. Sometimes it isn't safe or reasonable to go back and try to make things 'right-er'. You more accurately described an EE/CPE. most IT guys I know aren't into hardware, unless it comes out of a box and has instructions. Just saying. Though you make a valid point, if a piece doesn't conform to performance specs, I stop buying from that manufacturer. It's glib, but "control is an illusion" is one of the mantras I love to throw at people, a lot of time i think people suspect I'm joking.

I've often asked myself this question. I'm gonna be 36 in less than a month and I'm just now starting to feel like a man again. It's been a bit of a trip to tell the truth, and when I sit back and get out of my head and look at the things I've done and what I've experienced, I go wow... why do i not feel confident? 'Saving private Ryan, was the first time I remember really asking myself... what makes a life worth living? I remember asking my dad, who is by all measures a great man... he had no a…

^ This has been my experience with yoga over the last few years (in terms of social interaction). The way I describe it to my friends who ask is that Yoga == self paced stretchy fun-time with strength training and a bit of cardio depending on the instructor and your body on a given day. The scenery is sort of the cherry on top; if your having an eyes open day. In my experience, the vibe is definitely traditionally against picking-up unless you're teaching the class. That being said, I would reco…

It's a mixed bag. I was looking for a career where i wouldn't be living in pain at 50 or so, and it turned out to be a lot different than i expected, but i was committed so i had to see it through. Now i get to do some really cool shit but there is a lot of desk sitting. Everything has a cost.

In my experience you are completely correct, from observation at least. I could never 'date' fat. All i know is that aesthetics is about the one area I'm fairly shallow and if she did that, the sexing would end really fast. I physically get repulsed at some magical line of un-health. But now i get to tick the chubby girl great head box on my bucket list.

I'm plating one of these 5-6's now. She's got a great personality, a degree, job, gifted mouth. She's not fatfat and she's got a cute face, but she is a moped. On the plus side, in the month or so we've been fucking I've noticed that she's appearing to lose weight, which makes me almost feel like a samaritan. Bat country aint so bad.

I had a patch of unhire- ability for a few years and ended up doing ironwork in refineries in Long Beach, Ca for a little over a year. It was one of the most rewarding jobs I've had. They essentially pay you to work with fire, giant cranes, 50k-ton pieces of medal suspended 50 ft off the ground while your fitting it to a structure. The best part is when you turn over a new, functioning structure or piece of gear and you can pinpoint all of the critical pieces that you put there, from raw plate s…

It's so nice to have an idea I've been sorting through for quite a bit of time actually articulated into a coherent thought..... with words. The relentless push for more women in STEM hits close to home for me. Some women I know are going to be awesome engineers in their life, and women should be encouraged to to STEM..... if their proclivity and interest align in that realm. The demand to boost women in science for the sake of a more balanced gender ration is (ironic) and counterproductive to s…

Number 2: check. just put a 2L airhead stroker in my Ghia. It evenn sounds mean. New front trans-axle mount this weekend cause I seem to have too much of the torque for the old one. "Fix, drive, break... rinse and repeat"

took me a sec to remember the context. There was a pretty goood TRP discussion regarding what art/image/humor of a subculture reveals regarding a movement that this ties into nicely. (would link if i could remember who it was, but I don't comment much) should be pretty easy to find if you check the sub. thanks for the food/though.

Just curious, I've read at least one of Valenti's books a few years back and I never picked up on the 'man hater' part. what Am I missing? Granted it was when I was reading feminism at the point where I was like, "everyone is equal, I support that.... but what is theis dissonance i feel when I read things I agree with?" I just don't remember her as seeming overly anti manish, and again, I honestly wouldn't remember the title unless it was said.

no worries, I'll look up the book. I have a ingrained skepticism when it comes to historians, especially when you start dealing with 'pre-history'. An interesting read if you're into that genre would be: 'Brain Bugs' - Dean Buonomano 'Alphabet Versus the Goddess' - Dr. leonard Shlain Oddly enough they're both doctors, the second book take a really interesting look at the prehistory up through modern day and covers a broad scope of sociology, and physioogy. It's actually been a while since I've r…

downvoted for two reasons: My personal understanding is that pre-monotheism civilizations commonly had female leadership. The other qualm is how you loosely tie thought pattern and function to the "biological tendancies of the female brain". There's just to much wrong with that statement. There are clinical studies that indicate physiological differences, say between an introvert and an extrovert, the main one i recall being blood flow and arterial? routing. I suppose my main issue is that there…

Women can be awesome friends for men, but at least in my experience, there is a different energy or vibe that can't substitute a masculine energy friendship. The two are similar but different. You can get soy packaged meat, but it's just not the same as a steak

^ Nicely summarized. I'm a bit of an introvert by default and like most of us probably went through several different operational paradigms in my life. I went through the awkward clumsy kid phase, and or beta equivalent through high school. Got into my early twenties and went through my own little 'let's fuck shit up, people are dumb (literally) and society makes no sense' punk phase. All the while I was having mixed success with women. My average dating span was 3-6 months up until I was about …

love this "There's a reason a low number of women go into STEM. Don't you know feminism's motto? Feels over reals." -- Midlife crisis landed me back in university and about to finish a degree in electrical engineering. The student age is about 90-95% guys. I just broke up with a woman who, though clearly intelligent, would blend her feelings with reality, to the point that i had to friend zone her after a year of dating. Got tired of hearing the same conversation about all the things she would r…

I recently broke up with a girl I had been dating for around a year. The relationship was doomed, but she'd an awesome friend material for me so eventually my conscience forced me to break up with her. The expected barrage of character flaws ensued after I had told her we were done. Nothing in her conflicting laundry list of complaints surprised me except for one. The one that caught me off guard was her accusation that I made her 'feel like a wallet/purse'. We each have our own respective place…
