I don't really know anything about wine but the point I was trying to make is that high end shoes are a bit of an acquired taste. I think the point where the differences become barely noticeable when it comes to shoes is quite high. There's a clear difference between $700 shoes and $1500 shoes; mostly in leather quality and finish at that price range though. It's three in the morning here so I'm off to bed. Cheers!

There really is a lot of difference both in the construction and aesthetics when you move up in price ranges. You're right in the sense that most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference but so is the case of fine wines too. If you don't have an interest in shoes then there's really no reason to spend more than $200 because you and almost everyone else won't notice the difference. I should've mentioned that I meant dress shoes though we must have different definitions of good quality. I generally don't consider anything below Carmina, C&J and similar brands to be of good quality and those are at least 350+ (depending on what country you buy them in ofc). Edit: that sounds a bit condescending but it wasn't intended as such
