There's blood for a couple of minutes, yeah. Doing compressions after there's no oxygen in the blood is pointless. Obviously if you are only doing one, then do compressions since it will help for those couple of minutes. I just took a first aid class last weekend. They say you should always do both.

So mouth to mouth brings oxygen to lungs. Compressions circulate blood. You need both. Exhaled air still contains a lot of oxygen. The CO2 amount is only few percentages.
