A common refrain here in the comments is to get a good lawyer ASAP. There is a reason for this. Please follow this advice! Please ---do so. You will be so happy later on that you did. Every good wish!

This is a difficult call (no pun intended) on your part. Because you live 4 hours apart there might be a number of contributing factors (of which you may be unaware) that triggered this response in your GF. This coupled with a decade long stint in a toxic relationship really makes things hard to assess for you. I would suggest that since you have apologized for your joke that the ball is now in your GF'S court. See what happens. The next week or so will be important for you to guage things. Best…

You need to get your lawyer to contact her lawyer and set up a time to retrieve your things. It's too bad that it has come to this ---but that's the nature of it. Best!

You really have laid things out and, as someone who has experienced divorce, I can see a lot of my own experience here. However as cliche as this sounds, it really does get better over time. I feel for you but I know that over time it will get better - it really will! Every good wish.

Sometimes people get divorced and then decide to date again. Hopefully this is a post that doesn't offend.

Yes I have definitely seen a rise in guys who feel this way. There seem to be many reasons for this but "taking a break" from things for a while seems to make sense. Best!

Yup - I can see that you have reached a certain point -----I would guess you speak for many many others in the same situation.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
