Him: “Would you rather date a man who is good looking, smart, or has a sense of humor? You can only choose ONE!” Me: "No."

I saw that she was only 24 (and he's 38) and the first thing that popped into my head was, "Did she really want a kid this early, or did he pressure her into it?" Nobody I know who's 24 and only making part-time money wants a kid. Even my friends pulling six figures at 24 don't consider themselves ready for kids.

I know someone who taught at HES and he said some of the people there are really weird... like, obsessed with the name of the school but so bitter that they couldn't actually get into Harvard College for undergrad, to the point where it warps their world view. I'm sure there are some nice people at HES, but this person ended up being stalked by not one, not two, but THREE of his (male) students there on entirely separate occasions, so...

If that were me, I would've started asking him MCAT and Board Exam questions just to rake him through the coals a little bit more 😂😂😂

So glad you asked. Mentors can be both formal and informal, so there are a lot of people you could try to build a mentor/mentee relationship with. If you're in school now or are a recent graduate, take full advantage of formal advisors, professors, people studying in your field who are a few years ahead, people in affinity groups (e.g. Women in Engineering-type groups or cultural groups for your cultural background) / volunteer groups you are involved in. At work, the usual suspects (LinkedIn, f…

All the more reason why it's super important to try to get mentors (and ideally, more than one!) on most aspects of life. Always get a second opinion when you're just learning how to do something (whether it's building a career, budgeting/saving/investing, looking for your first apartment, buying a car, negotiating salary/benefits, taking care of health/fitness, or developing your emotional and social skills), never rely solely on a romantic partner for any of these.

🙄 making it all about himself... if he really feels this way, he should actually tell the guy that if he doesn't want to marry the woman, he should let her go. "I recognize"... well, how about you actually do something about it?

Okay, well, good for you, I guess, but the original point you made ("men with professional careers don't speak that way") is still wrong. Meanwhile, you've moved the goalposts all over the place and made some frankly racist comments throughout (especially comparing AAVE to crude language such as cussing and locker room talk). That's bad faith LVW behavior. Maybe it would be a good Level Up for you to educate yourself by reading the links that I and others have directed you to. Just because you p…

I think what you're mixed up on is that swearing and "locker room talk" are NOT the same as speaking in other dialects, such as AAVE. I'm a non-Black POC so I don't use AAVE, but I often use a mishmash of English and my native language in casual settings with other people who also speak my native language, similarly to how my friend uses the AAVE dialect casually. We understand each other perfectly and there's no disrespect inherent to our pidgin/dialect. We do it because it's part of our cultur…

I'd agree with this. There's definitely a high correlation between homophobic men and men who don't respect women.

They have a horrifyingly high rate of domestic abuse -- and worse, they have the information at their disposal to track down women staying in domestic violence shelters.
