Wait, all of this hubbub is about a word choice? Pick your battles, jeez.

I feel like this headline should be accompanied by a circle of hooded women laughing evilly.

"Sexual relationships become disturbed. Many victims have reported that they were unable to re-establish normal sexual relations and often shied away from sexual contact for some time after the rape. Some report inhibited sexual response and flashbacks to the rape during intercourse. Conversely some women become hyper-sexual following sexual attacks, sometimes as a gesture that they have power and choice over their sexual relations " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_trauma_syndrome

If she's telling the truth, it's actually plausible. One of the possible symptoms of rape trauma syndrome is having flashbacks to the event when provoked by something that is completely unrelated. It's possible that something happened while she was having sex with this guy that completely triggered her. I hope the defendant gets an apology, too. But don't be too quick to assume that the woman's a lying ass, because psychological damage is serious business. She should be getting help. So no more …

Every single one of their advertising campaigns has been sexist to both genders.

If you didn't want kids, you shouldn't have had sex bareback?

I'm just a pacifist. I don't like the idea of 'this violent act deserves this other violent act.' Edit for clarification: I see violence as a last resort after you've exhausted all other possible means of resistance/deflection. Commiting an act of violence says more about the person than it does about the act that 'caused' it.

...and let me be the only one who doesn't believe that violence should be justified.

true. I hate to see the sole reason two unhappy people stay together be for monetary reasons. then again, I hate to see that be the sole reason that they were brought together in the first damn place.

oh, believe me, I AM pissed. can she not make money? why is it so damn logical anyways? this is so tragically sad to read; sadder to realize that she's serious, of all things. god damn it anyway. my goal in my love life isn't to be satisfied that my 'worth' is less than his. shit.

I'm cured of ever wanting kids, too. did you SEE her stomach? holy freaking GAD.

"It was then that I realized that if I were a ten-year-old girl, and a middle-aged man suddenly grabbed me and kissed me against my will, it's unlikely that anybody would tell me to quiet down and lighten up if I started screaming about it." I can tell you, I was once a ten-year-old girl, and if this had happened to me, no one in my family would've cried about it. they would've told me I was overreacting. maybe you were freaking out because you were ten and a family friend kissed you on the chee…

if it's a vote based on a candidate's sex, no matter how convoluted, it's still an idiot vote.

"I think feminist=misandrist. I'm tired of hearing doublespeak about how individual "feminists" are pro-equality, pro-fairness when the movement they have hooked themselves to, the identity they have taken on by naming themselves after, is clearly about female supremacy NOT egalitarianism." QFT. egalitarian is the way to go, and I like to think that there are many self-labeled feminists that would be more in-line with egalitarianism. I really, really, really like to think that...

I'm confused. men can't call themselves feminists? I don't care what anyone calls themselves, though I would prefer egalitarian over all. ...sorry, men, for all of these bitter women out there.

all I mean is, I'm a woman and was absolutely terrified at the prospect of Palin having significant status in the White House. every time I read about someone voting for Palin because of her genetalia, the room I'm in is suddenly 10 degrees colder. I can't even bring myself to apologize for the sake of the female race. whosever vote can be influenced by the candidate's sex is an idiot and I refuse to be associated with them.

I didn't know that the concept was spread by feminists. I heard about it from a man who describes himself as a 'gender abolitionist.' I'm a fan of the 'be who you are' sentiment, no matter if you're Rosie the Riveter or a housewife. I should research more...

thanks for the info. I know my fair share of transgendered/agendered people and always wondered how the social-construct argument played into that.

honest question: I know that sex isn't a social construct, but I was under the distinct impression that gender was. explain please?

heart attacks, heart/blood problems, old age. his wife, warm and sweet woman, was informed very recently that she has leukemia. it's not pretty. my friend is an only child about to start her last year of college. maybe this is more information than needs to be shared, but this is close to home...you understand.

fair. to be honest, I was having fun comparing numbers that were bigger/smaller than others. 41% is a huge number and it is definitely one that needs further investigation and attention. no disagreement there.

"Sexual violence includes any physical, visual, verbal or sexual act that is experienced by the woman or girl, at the time or later, as a threat, invasion or assault that has the effect of hurting her or degrading her and/or taken away her ability to control intimate contact." females are the only victims, of course... on a side-note, I know Prof. Kanin personally. He's the father of one of my closest friends, and he's unfortunately not holding up so well. If you could all keep him in your thoug…

you are seriously twisting the comments out of proportion here. even just skimming, there are an overwhelming number of comments slamming the 'who cares, you got laid' responses. what kind of case are you trying to make here? if it was the 'people don't give a fuck if men are raped,' you failed.

as an egalitarian, it makes me really sad to see that there are those who think that this statement is logical. sorry, men-who-are-fed-up-with-'feminists.' there really are some sane girls out there who don't mind slapping a ho.

anyone that says that someone deserves to be raped for not acting the way that they think they should have acted is arguing an awful viewpoint. personally, my instinct would have been to go help, given that he didn't have a weapon. foolish? maybe. unsafe? yeah, I'll admit that. that doesn't mean I expect others to do what I would do. I just know that I couldn't stand by and watch someone be raped right in front of me if I had the means to do something about it.

the website question was more rhetorical than anything else. I can read, you know. yeah, that statement is really questionable, and, if the account is correct, then he should definitely be concerned. it just seems like the men on this website have come across the worst luck and the worst people they could. their awful experiences shouldn't be enough to say that all women act this way.
