Because big news outlets see that shit on the front page and decry the internet as sexist and objectifying women.

At what point does it stop being "patriarchy" and start being "the system is fucked for many different types of people in many different ways, and a couple hundred white men happen to have a lot of wealth."

They're guarantors, unfortunately. We were friends at one point and her friends overlap with my friends, so I'd prefer not to just sign a man and leave, but will do so if I have to (I'm leaving by March 1).

That's fair. I'd say those people are still a bit smaller than the amount of racists that exist on the conservative side, and definitely smaller than the hyper-religious, but still, they make my side look bad, and I hate them :(.

I get far more annoyed by the people that quit/troll than the people who say mean things. I guess that's part of the reason I hate SJWs? I've always taken extreme issue with people being so damn offended by words. Actions>words.

I think it's funny, but my sense of humor aligns with the oldschool toxicity of general chat in WoW (where calling people the n word was funny) and 4chan. I think things are funnier when they cross a line.

The people who believe in healing crystals are such a significantly small and non-involved minority that I'm not concerned with them. I am concerned by the number of crazy liberals who think GMOs are outright bad, though. I'm one of the ones who thinks they should be labeled, but I have no problem buying/eating GMO products at all.

It saddens me as a liberal that the conversatives are the only ones taking a legitimate forward-thinking stand on this. They obviously go WAY OVERBOARD and have some seriously horrific views on how women should be treated (especially in relation to abortion rights and birth control), but at least they have some kind of useful points.

Just out of curiosity, does this take into account how much more likely men are to frequent communities that are likely to turn to harassment, like competitive gaming? I'd imagine a large portion of the harassment comes in from games like LoL, CoD, CS:GO and others like them, and I know that men outweigh women in those communities by MASSIVE amounts.

Yeah...I'm a staunch liberal and I whole-heartedly believe that the facts support just about all the beliefs I have (I disagree with many liberal policies, like race-based affirmative action), but having these people "on my side" is embarrassing. This is the liberal version of southern racists (in the modern day, obviously). These SJWs undermine legitimate liberal policy and ideas by making us look insane. Further, the left-wing in, at least in the US, has been building a reputation as a group o…

But if you say anything along the lines of "but it's not just a women's issue" they scream about how you're "trying to force men into everything that has to do with women!" like in the same fucking episode with the $10 bill. On a tangential note, can I state how ABSURD it is that there's such a stink about women not being on currency? I'm sorry to break it to you, but 95% of humanity's existence in the western world has been male-centric. People on bills are of historical importance. There are a…

Yeah, christ. The egg in a vaginal canal thing is shocking? Please. I get people telling me that they're gonna ram a dog's bone up my ass and piss in my eyes. 90% of the time people say that shit, it's a joke or meant as "trash talk." You're confusing eventual results with intended results, it's a basic misunderstanding of how a majority-based, democratic system of government works. That's not the difference each side wants, it's the difference each side is capable of achieving because they're reliant on the other side to pass legislation. Democrats certainly want to raise taxes by more than 1-2%, and they want some MASSIVE things (like the estate tax, corporate taxes, etc) to be fixed and effective.

R/okcupid is a sub of women with severe social problems who think men are the reason they have to resort to online dating, but continue to be unable to find a relationship. They then blame people for sending "uninteresting messages" when all of their profiles have some shitty variation of "I'm down to earth, love netflix, and I speak in sarcasm :)" They think that if women respond to legitimate questions with one-word responses, it's because "the man should be more interesting." That's a lot of the point. The girls are the ones with the power here, not all the lonely men. It's also much easier to try to affect change by critiquing the ones with the power that are few rather than the largely powerless and ignorant mass.

It might me stupid or insecure or any other term you want to throw at me, but honestly, when I hear women say that they fear men walking down the street for their potential ability to rape/harm them, all I can think of is their ability to fight back within the law. Sure, rape is never ever acceptable. And suing a rapist will never change that. But, at least you can do something about it. If you're a man and a crime is committed against you by a woman, your legal recourse is almost non-existent. …

I mean, let's be fair here. I defend his right to defend himself, but he used some excessive force there. Yes, I realize that women are just as threatening as men, but he was perfectly capable of detaining her by simply grabbing her wrists. Yes, the media would have probably blown up over that, too, but it's less over-the-top.

No. Don't put words in my mouth and don't throw out useless strawman statements. Read what I said. The major gripe of new movements is that they're not taken seriously by the media and mainstream society. Want to know how you get them to not take you seriously? Videos like this one. Doesn't matter if he's the most reasonable and informed person in the world. It's about branding. Nobody is going to respond to his information if he uses lewd imagery like that, and it really just hurts the rest of us that are trying to be reasonable.

I, admittedly, didn't look into it at all. I just saw this post and was alarmed. It seems like every few months this sub just devolves into hatred for feminism, rather than a sub that's devoted to actually furthering equality, and then there's some big mod post about staying true to the original goals and not devolving. At a first glance, this post just screams anti-feminism, rather than MRA.
/r/MensRights13/07/14 03:13 PM

I'm not sure how that means that feminism cannot exist. Saying that a rights movement cannot exist because a group is not oppressed is the exact argument that people throw at MRAs.

Maybe it's because I haven't slept in two days, or maybe it's because I'm misinterpreting what you're saying, but you seem to be arguing that the fact that there are no hard facts in this article (and op-ed articles rarely utilize hard facts, they operate on the appeal to logic) negates everything that the author is saying? Essentially, my take on this post is that your take on the article is that there is a witch hunt happening purely because there is no hard evidence of a rape, which to me see…

Still. Men have been in charge of the US for two and a half centuries. That does not mean that there are not legitimate concerns about the way that men are viewed and treated in society, does it? The existence of a female PM does not negate the potential for societal inequality.

What is that logic? Barack Obama is black, but there's DEFINITELY still racism issues in the country. And I think that logical people could agree that there is a need to continue to promote racial equality, while also understanding that some anti-white movements are fucking absurd. That's the racial equivalent of what I assume this sub is about when it comes to gender issues. At least in this case I would argue that those men probably should have been thrown out of school, only really based on the evidence provided within the article, though. I'm not sure what argument you're trying to make against this article. Are you saying that they are advocating for rape tribunals that you feel are unnecessary? I'm not familiar with why a "rape tribunal" is an inherently bad thing, it sounds pretty similar to what a lot of schools have in place right now. My understanding of this article, which I admittedly skimmed on my phone on the subway, is that the author is ridiculing the rape tribunals for their hamfisted approach.

The transcript of this proceeding isn't relevant to the point I'm making. COTWA? I'm not a frequent enough browser here, but whenever I come around, there's at least a few Huffpo articles that are supportive. And that doesn't address the fact that there are reputable conservative outlets, of which the nationalpost and freerepublic are not.

Like the Huffington post that has posted these things many times? Or the NYT which frequently runs articles contrary to their own supposed belief system? Or what about the WSJ? Since when did this sub become anti-feminist? This sub is about equality. Yes, there is a LARGE portion of feminists in this country (the US, where I assume most posters are from) that have taken this way too far, but Thailand is not the US. Women are seriously repressed there. Equality is the goal, whether it's feminism, men's rights, or the asdfoiuasdfoiu movement that achieves it. McCaskill as in the Senator? I'm gonna go ahead and say that after reading the article, it sounds like the story is legitimate. Why is it that the women never have to put in the effort in the relationships in all of these movies? It's always the man that has to be romantic, or is a loser, or has to take an interest in the woman's things?

In the U.S. that's not always the case. Generally any "termination" clauses written into a contract are pretty solid, as long as they're legitimate. Basically, if there's no matter of discrimination, which there seems to be in this case. I go to a private school in Boston, though. If my college decided that they no longer wanted me there, their contract permits them to do so, as long as it's not on a discriminatory basis.

It's important to not decry all examples of sex-based expulsion the same way. Assuming that Reason.com presented all of the facts accurately (I have no reason to believe that they didn't), this case is a tragic and horrendous one. There is definitely an issue of rape and sexual assault at colleges, though. Not as wide-spread as we're led to believe, but I've seen it first-hand.

To an extent. Your human rights don't include the right to a college education at a private university. For the most part, human and constitutional rights prevent the government from violating those rights. If you do business with a private institution, you usually agree that they can stop doing business with you at any point for any reason. With colleges, that usually means expulsion, and expulsion for any and all reasons doesn't violate any basic rights. I'm interested to see how the discrimin…

I mean, that makes sense, but the issue is that the information they ask for in citations is also just an endorsement of honor. You give out the author's name and the publisher of the site, but if the site is gone then it's gone. Sure, you've given the author credit, but you've probably mentioned his name in the paper at some point. I just despise citations, it honestly is more painful than writing the paper itself. The stupid fucking requirements and specifics are beyond obnoxious.

Publishing, yeah. This guy took off 10 points (the entire amount of points he set aside for the bibliography) because I misplaced a comma. Also, I don't understand why citations are necessary for websites in the way we currently do it. I fully recognize that if you're citing a book you need to give credit to the author, publishing company and year published so that others don't get the wrong version of the book. With websites, however, a simple URL should be enough for a citation. Any informatio…

To be fair, it came out later on that epic beard man told the smaller black guy to shine his shoes like he should. Was pretty fucked up.

A lady punched a man who was driving a bus full of people, he hit her to subdue her then tried to drag her off the bus before other people stopped him.

If ANYTHING then it should be a male only bathroom and a dual bathroom, since women can't use urinals. Not that I'm advocating that.

I fully understand that, but I meant the main post in terms of an equal world. If men and women had access to the perfectly equal care and sympathetic needs of friends, would it not be worse for women?

And people that are okay with it. Here on Reddit where many of us have liberal leaning beliefs, especially on social values, we forget that not all women are okay with having an abortion, even in the case of rape.

Oh I fully agree with and understand the first paragraph, I just think that there's something to be said for the fact that women can get pregnant and men can't. If we eventually reach a point where rape of men and women are treated equally among courts and society, then would it not be more serious for a woman to be raped than a man?

I don't personally believe that there is anything wrong with abortion in extenuating circumstances, but some women do.

I think there's something to say that having a child inside of you leads to a bit more psychological damage than otherwise. Not to diminish the seriousness of the situation when a male is involved, but there's definitely a huge addition to damage with pregnancy.

That's absurd. Sounds like the message hit a sore spot then. People resort to childish games like that when they can no longer make a valid argument adult to adult.

I'm not a subscriber (because I'm too lazy to take one second to hit that little box) but is this actually an issue around here? That's really quite disturbing and sad. Anyways, thanks to whoever created the bot.

No doctor will come out and tell a parent that it's okay to administer meth to a child.

I think some of the information that was posted on the male side is a bit unfair. I think the issue of men having no say in the birth of a child they fathered is too controversial and left too open to the argument of "Yeah? Well you don't have to carry it for nine months, so your say is irrelevant." Which is actually a slightly valid argument. I think it hurts the overall MR cause when we wade into biological arguments like that one. We should stick to unfair treatment in court, the judicial sys…

As a men that's been circumcised, and as a non-jew, I'm glad it happened. I understand I might have a fully different viewpoint if I was able to remember any of the pain that had occurred at the time, but I do believe it's a different argument. I'm kind of tired and having a hard time actually putting the words in my head into the text box in front of me, but I still think it's different.

You have to be kidding me. That is an absolutely ridiculous statement and demonstrably not applicable here. She has gone out of her way to make herself a public figure on this issue, it's not personal information anymore. Especially since Twitter is a public website. It's not Facebook where you're posting stuff you might not want everyone to see, Twitter is meant to be public.

A twitter account for someone who is a self-described PR person and radical feminist who has commented on and become a public issue is not someone's personal information, that's just wrong. It's not her Facebook page and there is no link to her facebook page. They're entirely different. I didn't post and go "CHECK OUT DIS DUMB GURL HEHE" I posted it because it's important to the narrative here. Comedy is a medium in which your ONLY responsibility is to make people laugh. If someone finds your jo…

It's satire. It's a joke. It's not trivializing rape, it's pointing out the absurdity of a situation.

Wait wait wait. Let's back this up for a second. The intent of the article is to bash reddit, not to bash MR. They point out, what they believe is an absurd belief, that there is a subreddit devoted to men's rights, and one devoted to child porn. They are not saying we are equal or that we're the same, they're just saying that these things exist here. The issue is that men's rights and true equality are so unheard of and taboo that it's assumed to be disgusting to adhere to it. There's plenty of…

More men are raped in the U.S. every year than women if you include prison rape. If you don't include prison rape it's still roughly 60-40, so it's close, but women will win the court case every time. Men will lose. Every. Single. Time.
