Buried my only daughter recentlyYou did good. You made your kid feel loved all her life, and, as you said, happy. You gave her a good life. And I think you made the right decision for her. You were the best father anybody could be. | /r/MenSupportMen | 21/01/25 07:16 AM
Should I work on the criticism of my ex?Hey man, Do you think those criticism are valid? From what you write, you seem to believe most of them are not (not that it matters, but, taking your post at face value, I tend to agree). The main ones it seems to me that you agree with her on, are the second and the last ones. If those sound like reasonable things to improve on, do. The other ones, I'd just forget about. I personally think eating in restaurants is expensive and less healthy than cooking, so I'd work on that one, too. As I said,… | /r/MenSupportMen | 21/08/24 05:09 AM
Do manipulators will ever get their karma ?? 😭I agree with the other comment. Just wanted to add something: The basic premise is that it's hard to be happy with a mind that has hatred, greed, etc, in it. If you give in to those "bad" emotions, they will become who you are, and they will make you an unhappy person. So, if somebody manipulates/hurts people, that by itself prevents that person from having a happy/peaceful mind. You could say that that is their karma. If we hope that tomorrow a bird will sh*t in their car or something, yeah, th… | /r/MenSupportMen | 02/08/24 07:08 PM
If I had a unhealthy relationship with my father, then I am supposed to be the nice guy.. but I don't feel I'm nice guyHey! Well, I think this is expected. Childhood issues leave "scars" on us, and affect who we become. If they are big enough, they don't just go away by themselves. You need to work on them, likely, with professional help (counselor or therapist). I don't think we are required to always be "nice" and to "please people". We do need to do our best to see everybody, including ourselves, with compassion and try to balance our needs with those of others. | /r/MenSupportMen | 28/07/24 09:24 PM
Really screwed upIMO a dead bedroom relationship is just not sustainable. Whether you have been in it for 2 months or 40 years, it's not worth it too keep something just because "you've been in it for so long". That's the sunk-costs fallacy. I'm not saying "break up", I'm saying you need to see whether the problem can be fixed with reasonable effort. Perhaps couple's therapy (but with a truly neutral therapist, not with one that blames you for everything) could help you guys whether you are in a state where your… | /r/MenSupportMen | 09/07/24 10:00 PM
Why didn't I notice my girlfriend was falling out love?Hey man, I think it's completely OK for her to think the relationship is not working for her, and/or that you 2 are not compatible enough. However, I don't think it's OK to somehow try to make this into being about your "value". Like you need to be "up to her standard". Like she is some sort of prize you need to "deserve". This is not the case. A relationship is between equals. In respect and in value. IMO, If somebody feels somehow above their partner and thinks their partner should make an eff… | /r/MenSupportMen | 29/06/24 09:53 PM
Support thread for u/RudeTechnician587If we take what he wrote at face value, I can't see how he did anything wrong. Anybody who thinks someone is "selfish" for not having time for their romantic partner in 3 weeks while studying, has never studied something difficult. I can only guess that the need to focus and exert yourself for more than a short while is just foreign to them. Of course, I won't even mention knowing about putting all your hopes in studying in a prestigious place abroad, and with the additional pressure of the fath… | /r/MenSupportMen | 06/06/24 07:45 AM
Do other men feel like this?Hey man, I'm glad you got those 2 great responses. I just want to slightly complement them. I'm glad you are starting to think about yourself. You are also important, even if you didn't do a great job, which you do. Somewhat related: If dealing with all those things while being a great dad is being a loser, I wish I was a loser. | /r/MenSupportMen | 30/05/24 08:52 AM
| – | At the end of my rope, I guess?Hey man, The main thing is that, just the way you are, you are valuable. You do have the potential to be happy, and to make others happy. That can't be taken away from you, but it seems like you might have forgotten it. Every time you interact with a person, say, at work, or just in the streets and you are polite to them, or you smile to them, you might have made their day without even knowing. You make a difference in the world, and you can make an even bigger one if you start loving yourself m… | /r/MenSupportMen | 04/02/24 09:33 PM |
| – | FitnessI wouldn't call my self an expert, but I can give some guidelines. Yo need vegetables. Like, a lot of them. Try to sneak them into food as much as you can. You need to reduce ultra-processed things (including sugar) as much as you can. It's ideal to have fat (mostly vegetable, unprocessed), protein and dietary fiber (i.e. unrefined carbs). The amount is given by the calories you spend. There are some formulas that can help you with that. I'm not sure, but I'd think a smart watch's estimate is al… | /r/MenSupportMen | 17/12/23 12:54 AM |
Wife has no sex drive-post menopausalYou guys might have very well tried this, but, just in case: Maybe seeing a doctor (GYN) can help? I'm not even close to an expert, but I understand that many men and women get hormone replacements after a certain age, and not only because of the libido problem. Of course, this is something to be evaluated for each particular case by an expert. | /r/MenSupportMen | 28/11/23 02:22 AM
I'm a trainwreck and nothing I do seems to be working.Hey man, I hope you do not delete this. I don't think you have anything to be ashamed of. You trusted somebody, and your trust was betrayed. I think it is the normal thing to blame ourselves when this happens. That takes you on this spiral of self-destructive behavior, which makes you feel more guilty, leading to more self-destructive thoughts/actions, and so on. I would happen to the best of us. I'm glad that you are doing all those things you say. I think they help, and that things would be wo… | /r/MenSupportMen | 31/10/23 07:54 AM

Iv been depressed lately and kind of suicidalYour mental health is important, and you deserve to be listened to. | /r/MenSupportMen | 28/10/23 05:29 AM
Iv been depressed lately and kind of suicidalBeing lonely sucks, man. It would make anybody struggle. When one is in that hole, it's hard to see the way to climb out, even though it is possible. | /r/MenSupportMen | 28/10/23 05:28 AM
Iv been depressed lately and kind of suicidalHey man, what's going on? We care here, we'd like to read about what's troubling you. | /r/MenSupportMen | 28/10/23 03:17 AM
The expectations placed on being a man I so high in society that I can't really reach itI agree with the other posters, but I wanted to add that you are a man to us, dude. Society's expectations can go f themselves. | /r/MenSupportMen | 09/08/23 09:49 AM
Unfortunate updateHey man, What they did was very wrong. I'm glad the bunny and you are safe now. Please take care of yourself and of her. I think like you two need each other, especially now. | /r/MenSupportMen | 25/07/23 12:57 AM
Stuck in an abusive relationshipHey man, I'm very sorry you are going through that. You do not deserve it. You are very right on not laying hands on her. I fear that, even if clearly in self defense, you could end up being blamed for everything. I would advice to document things as well as you can (pictures of any wound she causes, etc. If you want to record something, you need to check whether that's legal where you live). Only after having evidence would I dare calling for help, again, so you can't be blamed for the whole th… | /r/MenSupportMen | 11/03/23 04:12 AM
Being right but also being wrongMaybe I'm too pragmatic, but I think there is (usually) little point in arguing with somebody who identifies personally with their posture (i.e will get defensive if contradicted) or with anyone who is unlikely to change their mind. The point of arguing is (normally) to either change your mind, or get the other person to do that. If neither seems likely, I just avoid the topic entirely. | /r/MenSupportMen | 09/03/23 10:05 PM
I’m feeling pretty helplessHey dude, I guess you came to the right place! I second the meetup.com idea. I used it with some success some years ago. I recently advised a poster to take martial arts lessons. It seems like it would be good for you, also (attendees there tend to be guys). You might have to try more than one school to find one where the group actually keeps contact outside lessons. There are more nerdy options, like Dungeon and Dragons (or similar role playing games) groups. It might be easier/lower pressure. | /r/MenSupportMen | 09/03/23 10:00 PM
Advice needed on coping with my problemsIf I may nerd out a bit more about the whole gym thingy: This is a good source of info on nutrition https://www.bodybuildingrevealed.com/ On programs, remember to be conservative with the weights, stretch/foarm roll afterwards and be mindful of technique. It's rather easy to injure oneself (as I have learnt the hard way xD) If you look for programs, or to learn about technique, I like the Starting Strength book (but do not follow its advice on nutrition). It uses barbells. If you'd like to try K… | /r/MenSupportMen | 09/03/23 04:48 AM
Advice needed on coping with my problemsI think anything is good, really (except for maybe aikido xD). If you actually want them for self defense, that's a way trickier question. In general, I would just look for something that has plenty of people, including people your age. That will depend of what is popular where you live. I'd say MMA, Muay Thai or BJJ are likely to fit the bill. BJJ (and, by extension, MMA) have a somewhat higher potential for injuries, so that's something to consider. Good luck with everything! | /r/MenSupportMen | 08/03/23 09:35 PM
Advice needed on coping with my problemsHey man, You are not wasting our time. We are here to support each other, and you deserve support. Also, I might be half asleep writing this, but your English seems good to me (not that mine is great, though) Whether you do have schizophrenia, it is definitely something to be sorted out by an MD. If it was the case, I doubt there is any chance for it to just go away without treatment. You'd really need to follow the doctor's instructions and so on. On the class thing, almost every guy is ugly at… | /r/MenSupportMen | 08/03/23 06:43 AM
im. brokenHey man, I'm sorry abour your loss. I thought about whether should I even write something, after the excellent response already posted. I think I can say something from my experience, which might serve as a small complement to what has already been written. Of course cheating is bad, but we all make mistakes, and we do have to let it go and forgive ourselves. This is very difficult while in the relationship. The person that has been cheated on will hardly manage to let it go, and it is totally u… | /r/MenSupportMen | 02/01/23 08:22 PM
Howdy fellas!Hey man, Well, you are, at least not alone. Unfortunately, this kind of situation seems not to be uncommon, and you see many fathers "bleeded out" by the system. If you think you don't deserve your girlfriend, she clearly disagrees. If she has been willing to compromise her own financial situation, it does not only mean that she is a admirable person, with empathy and compassion, but also that she sees something in you, that you don't. She sees that you are worth it. I do not think it's true tha… | /r/MenSupportMen | 25/08/22 11:53 PM
Is there any possibility to talk with someone privatelyHey, Yeah, you can hit me up if you want. | /r/MenSupportMen | 12/08/22 04:28 PM
Recent Break UpHey man, Breakups are always hard, and, after a certain age, they make you feel you threw away a life project. I think missing your ex is very normal at the begining, and it can last for quite a while. As you say, it's good for you both to have space to process the whole thing. It's a big change in your lives, after all. I suspect life will be lonely for a while. It usually takes some time from a serious relationship, to meeting somebody new. Things do get better, though, and there is not a "rig… | /r/MenSupportMen | 20/07/22 02:14 AM
Weekend check-inI think one seldom feels prepared for an exam. Remember to sleep enough! | /r/MenSupportMen | 27/05/22 11:52 PM
Burning outIt's OK man. I don't think your message sounded like "too much self pity", or pretentious. That's being too tough on yourself, I think. You were just feeling tired and hopeless. We all feel like that sometimes, and need support. I'm glad that the community did come together to support you. Take care! | /r/MenSupportMen | 19/05/22 11:41 PM
Burning outHey man, I see you have been through a lot, since you were a kid. You have done a lot with the hand you were dealt. I wouldn't say at all that you failed to become a man, and I think you are all the opposite of worthless. I don't quite like all the "fix myself" thing. It kinda implies you are "defective". I don't think you are. You are a person forged by what you have lived, which was very hard. It surely causes issues, but it makes you special, too. A lot of people don't really understand the s… | /r/MenSupportMen | 17/05/22 04:36 AM
Lonlieness - a good intro to this social phenomenon and it's effects and consequencesI didn't watch the video, but I agree that it could be more useful to talk about what can one do about loneliness, how can we deal with it. I have my own ideas, but I'd like to read yours :-) | /r/MenSupportMen | 04/04/22 05:27 AM
Mid-week check-inHey man. I think we all need to allow for some sloppiness when we are down. It's inevitable. I guess it's not you boss' fault (s/he might not even know about the girlfriend thing) but do cut yourself some slack. Congrats on the therapy. I think it will help. If, after a while, you think it doesn't, don't give up, try another therapist. You are worth it, man. Not only you deserve happiness, but there is happiness somewhere there inside you, waiting to be found. Loving and respecting yourself is r… | /r/MenSupportMen | 18/01/22 09:32 PM
How to help with lonelinessI thought having specific date/times would help having more of us there. | /r/MenSupportMen | 15/01/22 11:48 PM
My parents raised me as a girl and it’s still humiliating and painful 18 years afterHey! I am very sorry you had to go through all that. I don't know the details, I don't know how did your parents make that choice, but I don't think it really matters anymore. What matters is that you made it here, you are still very young, ready to start a new life. Our brains are very flexible and plastic, I want to be very clear in that I am not claiming that the damage done isn't real. Of course it is. But I believe in your ability to heal and have a good life. I think deciding to seek suppo… | /r/MenSupportMen | 16/11/21 04:35 AM
I'm scared of sexHey, I don't think you are weird. You do seem to be an anxious person (I am anxious too, so I sure hope its not weird xD), but indeed, human relationships are can be extra complicated these days. I won't go into whether that is right or wrong, but that is how it is. Of course, one solution is to simply not have sex or date. That's might be a bit extreme, but it depend on you. Maybe you are also focusing on your studies, for instance. In that sense, don't let social expectations get in your way. … | /r/MenSupportMen | 12/09/21 10:05 PM
