Since you're familiar with CBT, have you read Intimate Connections by David Burns. I'm only a little ways through it, but I really like it thus far.

I would think a bit of that self-consciousness disappeared after you kissed her. It was probably a bit of a confidence boost for her, especially if she was feeling intimidated by your looks/charm.

It seems like you like her... maybe she's just really comfortable and attracted to you. Why not just enjoy that? I'm not sure why you'd say she's "underconfident."

Heh, I felt they've been obsolete for a while. However, I recently knew a guy who was still using one. I initially thought that maybe the OP was the same way and the chick was all, "Why the fuck don't you use an iPhone or a goddamn Blackberry?!" setting off OP's violent rage.

Oh, PDA = Public Displays of Affection? I was confused for a little while.

Who is your daddy and what does he do?

Are you a "far talker"? That will make it hard. You need to obviously talk in arms reach. Also, do you gesture with your hands when you talk? This makes it easier since it can just be an extension of a gesture.

I can definitely relate. I'm sure it's like anything else: maintaining eye contact, using someone's name when you greet them, etc. It takes practice and is initially awkward, but it becomes second nature. What I do is practice on my good friends who know my situation. But escalation is whole other can of worms, I'm afraid.

Were they six real numbers? If so, I wouldn't feel bad, especially if you met them at a bar or something. I imagine girls often sober up, don't remember things too well and simply get cold feet. Did you even kiss/make-out with any of these chicks? I'm just starting out so don't take my advice, but I would like someone's opinion on the following: That's why I'm sort of digging the idea of Gunwitch's f-close or bust policy - sex is the only goal - not dates, not phone numbers. He puts the odds at …

That book helped me a bit. It's kind of sad, but I actually did buy that book a few years ago to make friends. It has helped me build verbal rapport with people. My first impression was that it was common sense stuff, but then I realized I hardly did those things in practice.

I had an experience like that once. She was cute, but way annoying. I kept looking away, turned my body away, yawned, sighed, etc. But she kept leaning in and wouldn't shut up. Everyone around us got up, and moved elsewhere. I stuck it out, because I didn't want to hurt her feelings (like a moron). I'm not sure if she was interested or just needed to unload a ton of crazy verbal diarrhea. I always assumed that if a physically attractive woman was desperate, I would just escalate.

Zero validation. If she is an attractive girl who likes attention, it’s possible she has a lot of guys showering her with lovey-dovey compliments. Don’t be that guy. As above, keep it light and flirty. Or if you do validate, follow it up with banter. “You’re so creative. I like that. Too bad you’re such a dork!” How do you flirt without giving her some sort of validation? Do not ask her how she “feels”. Boy, isn't that the truth. It's tough to not ask, especially if I'm not sure what signals I'm…

Even I have a facebook page as reclusive as I am. My buddy's wife pressured me into getting one a while ago, so I set up a page with fake/funny personal info. There's no profile pic of me, no apps, half-dozen "friends"... just the bare minimum. I've friended a few girls thus far and it wasn't a problem. I feel it's a decent compromise, but why compromise?

This one's already got you blaming yourself for her mixed signals. That's a good point. She's the most confusing, indecisive girl I've ever spent time with. Can you believe this whole thing started with me initiating a "friends with benefits" conversation with her? Only the next day, she's backing out of our agreement with that. I've ran the entire gamut with her at this point.

All I can get from your post is that you've engaged in large amounts of supplicative behavior. Yeah, I definitely get better results when I'm more blunt, decisive and not trying too hard. I probably should have implemented a "full stop" before my last text, but it may be the only thing I can really do. In the meantime, I can pursue other options.

Women care less about how you make them think, but women will never forget about how you make them feel. Bingo! I just learned that the hard way.

Yeah; I'm a bit anxious about kissing her but there's no reason not to do it. I'm not really going to get anywhere, otherwise. Both of us should definitely be on the same page by now.

All good advice; thanks! If you're not comfortable touching a woman, you're showing her you're not comfortable with intimate touching. Too true. It's something I'm just going to have get past. I feel it's going to be a very frustrating future if I don't. You will be surprised that your touch will not be perceived as creepy as you think. Possibly being perceived as creepy has definitely been the problem for me. I'm going to try and get into the right mindset next time.

You know the friend and her talked all about this in advance. Yeah, you're right... after all, she must be attracted to me a lil' bit at least. I'm less nervous because of that, but I'm still fairly anxious about screwing up the intimacy. What is this "weird upper-arm stroking" thing? I just ran my hands up and down her arms a couple times, while she held on to my waist. I wanted to kiss her, but panicked and did that stupid thing. Yes, it was odd and most women would have run to their cars, but…
