I think everyone agrees with the intended goals of feminism. I think my downvotes and the comments in this thread say otherwise. Not really how I’ve engaged with it but interesting thoughts! Have an example?

I’ll be honest - someone who doesn’t identify as a feminist is a red flag, as a friend, as a potential lover, as someone I might introduce to someone. Feminism is a political movement with clear goals (reproductive freedom, pay equity, preventing domestic violence) that gets conflated by messy cultural messaging. It’s a big enough word that everyone in this thread is basically talking about something different. Some guys hear women complain about predatory behaviour and compare that to their own…

It’s two objectively wrong statements, but there’s so little substance to what you’re saying I have no way of refuting it.

A good relationship is one where one person has control over the other person? What the hell 😂

I think this answer should come from introspection ahead of the date rather than from a set of prescripted questions - what do you want to know about her? What are you looking for and what questions will give you information about her that would inform that? A date is an experience. You want to be consistently interested and excited by what she’s talking about, listening intentionally and putting forth topics and questions that you’re curious about. What are you reading, watching? What are you c…

Politics is more than who you vote for, it’s your lens for perceiving the world. I’ve had chemistry with people who were coming from a different quadrant on the political compass, who have had different political narratives from my own resonate, but personally I couldn’t imagine dating someone long term who I didn’t have alignment with on key issues.

I mean sure, but also the exact opposite is true. Families can be fucked up and not having a good relationship with your parents isn’t inherently a red flag.

Politics and philosophy are first up if I’m looking to date someone rather than just have sex with them.

Sex on a first date isn’t always the best possible sex you could have with someone though. A little lead up, building tension over a few or several dates is preferable for me.

Me too lol, but vaccine efficacy is waning and I’m three months away from my booster allotment. I still date and kiss a fair amount of people, no judgement at all but be careful out there!

Damn, kiss closing with ten people in ten days during a pandemic that is ramping up again is some real confidence.

results may vary as to whether she actually finds this thrilling or just plain terrifying context is everything and some relationships could have a place for this kind of thing but i definitely wouldn’t recommend this as general advice

I’m definitely looking for that emotional connection and intimacy in sex, but that isn’t always possible with someone you don’t know very well. So generally I can’t have sex with someone I don’t like as a person at least a little bit.

“Out here” coneys exactly no new information as to where you are. The bars that are open for outdoor dining near me aren’t exactly made for approaching or meeting new people / it’s difficult to gauge what people are comfortable with at the moment.

if they don't text back in 2 weeks, do you generally then text them or move on?

solid cagney and lacey shoutout, and yeah you're right. i really only have 2-3 close real friends i text all the time and like 20-30 friends i text from time to time. i keep texting girls i'm interested in as if they were one of the 2-3 real friends when i should be texting them like the 20-30. i do initiate things but i guess my point is i want to be the one that actively seeks it out a bit less, but i get your point. thank you!

yeah I have one girl who is definitely like that who I don't care at all about then two girls who I always text first who I'm defineitely more interested in. I'm sensing a trend. gonna wait ~2 weeks on all three and see what happens, thanks for the response man

definitely fine. been living abroad for awhile and the girls and fellow expats I interact with only solely use facebook for communication. alternatives like whatsapp and viber are nice but facebook is preferable for many reasons. don't overthink the medium, think about what you say on that medium.

neediness is not strictly American... at least in the czech republic there is a huge stigma to going up and saying hi to people. it might work with other tourists but in my experience czechs, slovaks, hungarians and people from other eastern countries are generally quieter and more reserved. something to do with their state socialist/communist past.

yeah, I live here too and my experience with czech girls is they're 1) initially put off by my west coast us accent and 2) usually interested in talking to me. depends on the context of course but daytime approaching isn't that strange here

I feel you, I've definitely experienced similar conversations. I'm sure the stories are awesome but maybe its the delivery that is making them loose attention? Just because I haven't experienced something doesn't make me less inclined to talk about it. If someone was telling me a really strong, passionate anecdote about something I have never experienced I doubt I'd be inclined to lose interest.

the only choice here is to pretend you never saw it and let that become the new reality. it shouldn't be that hard, you just met this girl, remember? she showed complete interest. her career doesn't change that

Sounds like the timing was just awful, but it really is hard to tell without being there. Keep pursuing but fall back if she doesn't return any interest

if anyone wants a solid example of all of these techniques... watch the film Before Sunrise. it's about a guy who basically picks up a girl on a train and spends an hour and a half making her fall in love with him just through conversation. sometimes he shoots and scores, sometimes he misses but it's always light-hearted and always genuine. I couldn't stop thinking about his approach during this post.

Damn I though this was going to be something different... well that was a great way to start my day
