As things currently stand, the government does not have the ability to cover the costs associated with raising a child. So they demand that the father cover the cost. If more costs were covered by government funded childcare and medical care, a lot of that would be eliminated.

I imagined /r/egalitarianism to be that sort of thing but I don't see as much stuff there. Might be a place to start?

This is exactly right. The abusers blame their victims for making them angry and the victims agree and apologize. It's very frustrating to see. It's also a big part of why victims don't report abuse, they blame themselves.

The compelling spouses to testify is disconcerting. If I remember correctly, in the US (I know this article is Canada) the 5th amendment covers spouses as well.

I don't know about the law in England. As a social worker, I would definitely recommend he receive some counseling. I would also wonder about home situation. Inappropriate sexual activity like this could be a sign of abuse or other problems at home. Not definitely, but possibly.

I agree. I see it as trying to promote the idea of fathers spending more time with their kids. I don't think this is directed solely at the fathers themselves but at society as a whole. It is saying it's good for fathers to spend time with their kids, and we as a society, should be letting them do that. If more and more fathers continue to tell their companies that they need to leave on time so they can see their kids, and if more people see that as a good thing, then companies will have to star…

I would like to thank Sara Gilbert for pointing out the problem with laughing at violence.

You can definitely offend the white male, but society says that men don't matter and it's ok to offend them.

The stats there show that boys are less forthcoming than girls. 43% of girls say something, but only 29% of boys say something. 29<43

Two things: 1) I agree that the father should not be taking her daughter to McDonalds if he is worried about her weight. What the worker says about the soda is almost all wrong, but I do agree that it would be better for him to give her water (flavored with a 0 cal powder if she wants it) or skim milk or low cal/watered down juice. 2) In my opinion, he has a definite right to know about the medication, it is DEFINITELY irresponsible to not tell someone supervising the daughter about serious medi…

Defining anyone as an object is harmful. It is harmful to the person being objectified for it removes their identity beyond their appearance. It turns them into a being whose only value is in their good looks. The girls in this video don't care if the men are smart or kind or caring, they only care that they're attractive. It diminishes the value of those other qualities which in turn diminishes the value of anyone who is not attractive. This is what leads to body image problems and eating disor…

So what you're saying is, tennis players should be paid based on how long it takes to win? So an amazing player who can ace every serve would get paid less than someone who takes a long time to just barely win?

Exactly. Like you said, anecdotal evidence is not proof either way. If it was, then finding a boy born a boy who likes wearing frilly pink dresses would destroy the biology argument.

This really pisses me off. I waited for marriage to have sex and had to deal with a couple of girlfriends who didn't understand and pressured me for sex. I had to deal with "not being a real man" because I didn't want to have sex when I was in high school. Not all men are the same. Not all women are the same.

Marriage can be an excellent thing. I've been married to a wonderful woman for 6.5 years now and there's no sign of things going south. I understand that a lot of marriages end poorly (we've already outlasted 2 of my mother-in-law's marriages). However, marriage can be a great thing. A couple of things people don't think about. 1) go in with your eyes open. I've dated a lot of crazy, manipulative women in the past and I am VERY glad I didn't marry any of them. 2) TALK TALK TALK. It's cliche that…

Actually ASK the same question and don't just say you're asking it. Compare Men's Rights versus Women's Rights. This would make you sound less stupid. Women's Rights is 78.6% indifferent

You make a lot of blanket statements that I disagree with. There are jobs MEN excel at because it takes focused, cold, acute reason and motor skills and physical strength and endurance to do most male dominated occupations. While it takes organization, tenderness, compassion, and patience to do the most female dominated occupations. From this statement, I understand that your contention is that women are lacking in reason, motor skills, physical strength, and endurance. While men are lacking in …

1) I would rephrase this as: A woman should get the same punishment for hitting a man as a man gets for hitting a woman. 2) I see this as similar to my #1. He could be very sensitive about his nose and it's not ok to mock people. 3) I disagree completely. Flirting doesn't have to mean sex. 4) I'm not very athletic so I don't know about this one, but I don't play with people that are out of my league unless everyone knows its just a friendly game b/c I don't want to slow people down. 5) I have ru…

You have the right to make decisions about your own body. So does your wife. You have the right to get a vasectomy. Your wife also has the right to say no to sex. Just because you are married doesn't mean you have the right to sex when you want it. Now, I agree that this is not a healthy situation and it sounds like there are some problems. It sounds like the possibility of babies in the future is very important to her, maybe more than actually having more kids. She may have her identity as a wo…

First, thank you very much for wanting to stand up for men in your work. That isn't easy to do, it's much easier to just let things go on as they are. Thank you for wanting to make a change. As for how to do it? Difficult to do it easily. You are going to continue working with them and so you don't want to piss them off and get them all mad at you. Try something like: "I've been thinking, I don't think we should make fun of men. I wouldn't want them saying that about us" Good luck and again, tha…

1 in 6 men will be sexually assaulted, that is different from rape. Sexual assault includes molestation, groping etc. Rape on the other hand only covers penetration.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
